The rating is our editorial assessment, and first place in our editorial ranking goes to the Ooni Koda 16. The buying guide helps you settle fuel, size and location in advance.

Gozney Roccbox: over 500 °C, gas (wood optional), 12 inch
The Gozney Roccbox is a gas pizza oven for pizzas up to 30 cm and, according to Gozney, certified for outdoor use only. It has a fixed cordierite stone of 19 mm, a thermometer under the stone and a silicone jacket. According to Gozney it reaches 370 °C in under 20 minutes. For Germany you need the 50 mbar version.
Our assessment: The Roccbox suits you if you can keep 3 m clearance from buildings in the garden, bake for at most about ten guests (around 40 minutes non-stop at two pizzas each) and do not mind an oven weight of just under 20 kg.
Strengths according to our review:
- The stone sits firmly and, according to Gozney, cannot slip out when carrying
- Built-in thermometer shows, according to the wood burner instructions, when the oven is heated through completely
- Silicone jacket, with a lower risk of burns than a metal housing according to Gozney
Weaknesses according to our review:
- On Amazon on 1 October 2026 we found only part number GRPBKUK1618 from Gozney’s 37 mbar group, not the German 50 mbar version
- Just under 20 kg according to Gozney, roughly twice as heavy as the Ooni Koda 12 at 9.25 kg according to Ooni
Editorial rating 9.3/10, where to buy: Santos Grills. All data, sources and the FAQ are in the individual review of the Gozney Roccbox.

Our assessment: Our assessment: the Karu 16 suits you if you want to bake pizzas up to 16 inches over a wood fire, have a permanent outdoor spot with the clearances from Ooni’s instructions, and can live with an oven that Ooni no longer lists in its EU shop. If you do not want to tend a fire, take the Koda 16; if you need less area and weight, the Karu 12; if you want a Bluetooth thermometer with a food probe, the Karu 2 Pro.

- Two cordierite stones, replacement stones at Ooni for €60 (as of 6 October 2026)

Gozney Arc XL Gas Pizza Oven: up to 500 °C, side rolling gas flame, no door

According to the Gozney help centre it runs on propane only, and the price is approx. €900. For the Amazon listing it is not documented whether it is the version for Germany.
Our assessment: The Arc XL suits you if you have outdoor space with 1.5 m clearance from walls, want to bake with propane and need pizzas up to 40 cm. The Ooni Koda 16 bakes the same pizza size, costs around €450 less and, at 9.4, is ahead of the Arc XL (9.1) in our rating. If you want to bake with wood or only occasionally make a small pizza, you do not need the Arc XL.
Strengths according to our review:
- Side-mounted burner whose flame, according to Gozney, rolls along the oven ceiling
- Double-layer insulation and a 20 mm thick cordierite stone, pizzas up to 16 inches (around 40 cm)
- Digital temperature display with probe is included
Weaknesses according to our review:
- At approx. €900, the third most expensive of the 38 pizza ovens in our catalogue
- According to the Gozney help centre, propane only: wood and natural gas are excluded, and using them voids the warranty
Editorial rating 9.1/10, where to buy: Santos Grills. All data, sources and the FAQ are in the individual review of the Gozney Arc XL Gas Pizza Oven.
Ooni Karu 12: 500 °C, multi-fuel, 12 inch
The Ooni Karu 12 bakes pizzas up to 30 cm with wood or lump charcoal; gas works only with the separately sold burner (€99 at Ooni). Ooni quotes up to 500 °C and a baking time from 60 seconds; a thermometer is not built in. Our price box lists it at approx. €299, the same price Ooni quotes in its EU shop.
Our assessment: The Karu 12 suits you if you have one metre of space all round outdoors, want to burn wood or lump charcoal and can manage with one pizza of up to 30 cm at a time. If you want to bake without tending a fire, you are better served in our catalogue by the Ooni Koda 12; if you want a thermometer in the oven, by the Karu 2.
Strengths according to our review:
- Wood or lump charcoal from the factory, gas can be added with the separate Ooni gas burner
- Cordierite stone, 15 mm thick, pizzas up to 30 cm, baking time from 60 seconds according to Ooni
- 12 kg unpacked according to Ooni, folding legs, removable chimney
Weaknesses according to our review:
- No built-in thermometer: Ooni recommends an infrared thermometer, which is not included
- Gas only with a separate burner (€99 in the Ooni EU shop), propane only, not natural gas, and never at the same time as wood or charcoal
Editorial rating 9.0/10, where to buy: Amazon. All data, sources and the FAQ are in the individual review of the Ooni Karu 12.
Ooni Koda 12: 500 °C, gas, 12 inch

At Santos Grills it costs approx. €284 (available on 21 October 2026). Before buying, you should check the gas pressure version.
Our assessment: Our assessment: the Ooni Koda 12 suits anyone who bakes pizzas up to 30 cm and likes to take the oven along. At Santos Grills it costs approx. €284 (available on 21 October 2026); the Koda 16 appears in our price box at approx. €449. Strengths according to our review:
- At 9.2 kg the lightest oven in our comparison table, plus folding legs
- According to Ooni, 500 °C in 15 minutes (Essentials Guide: 20 minutes preheating)
- Gas oven for 30 cm pizzas with flame failure protection
Weaknesses according to our review:
- According to Ooni, the pizza must be turned every 20 to 30 seconds because the side facing the flame browns fastest
- For Germany Ooni names the 50 mbar version; according to the catalogue, the Amazon listing is the 37 mbar version UU-P19C00 without hose and regulator
Editorial rating 9.0/10, where to buy: Santos Grills. All data, sources and the FAQ are in the individual review of the Ooni Koda 12.
Cozze Quattro 900 4-in-1 Gas Grill Station: 4-in-1 gas grill station with pizza oven and steak zone
For approx. €869, the Cozze Quattro 900 combines a plancha, grill grate, pizza stone and an infrared zone that heats up to 800 °C according to Cozze, in a 13 kW tabletop unit with three control knobs. On the left, the pizza oven insert and the infrared zone share one lid, which must stay open during infrared operation; on the right, the cast iron plancha runs independently alongside.
Our assessment: The Cozze Quattro 900 is aimed at anyone who wants a plancha, steak under infrared and the occasional pizza on one gas bottle and in one spot; on the left you work one after the other, on the right the plancha runs in parallel. For approx. €869 you get, according to Cozze, 13 kW and an infrared zone up to 800 °C. If you mainly want to bake pizza, then in our assessment you are better served by a dedicated pizza oven.
Strengths according to our review:
- The 4-in-1 concept combines pizza oven, plancha, grill grate and steak zone in one station
- Infrared zone that heats up to 800 °C according to Cozze and radiates onto the food from above
- Two separate lids: infrared and pizza oven on the left, plancha on the right, both halves usable in parallel
Weaknesses according to our review:
- Approx. €869 for a tabletop unit; a gas bottle and a base (such as the 900 station) come on top
- The pizza oven insert and the infrared zone are both on the left; while the infrared burner is running, the left lid must stay open
Editorial rating 8.9/10, where to buy: Amazon. All data, sources and the FAQ are in the individual review of the Cozze Quattro 900 4-in-1 Gas Grill Station.
Ooni Fyra 12: 500 °C, pellets, 12 inch
The Ooni Fyra 12 is a pellet oven for pizzas up to 30 cm. The pellets slide down from a hopper, but according to the instructions you still have to refill it. Ooni no longer lists it in the German oven overview. Ooni prohibits use in a tent, caravan or boat, and outdoors you need 1 m clearance from buildings.
Our assessment: The Fyra 12 suits you if you want to bake with pellets outdoors and stay at the oven for the whole session to refill. If you do not want to feed a fire, take a gas oven such as the Koda 12. If you expect accessories and spare parts through Ooni’s German shop, you will find the Karu 12 and Koda 12 still listed there.
Strengths according to our review:
- Runs without a gas bottle and without electricity: the parts list contains no gas connection and no electrical components
- According to Ooni, 44% less fuel than the Ooni 3 over a 90 minute baking session
- Cordierite stone of 10 mm for pizzas up to 12 inches (30 cm)
Weaknesses according to our review:
- The hopper does not fill itself: according to the instructions, one fill lasts 15 minutes, so you stay at the oven and refill
- No longer listed in Ooni’s German oven overview; accessories and spare parts are unclear
Editorial rating 8.8/10, where to buy: Amazon. All data, sources and the FAQ are in the individual review of the Ooni Fyra 12.
Buying guide: how to find the right pizza oven
Which fuel suits you?
Our assessment: gas takes the least work in operation. The Ooni Koda 16 and the Ooni Koda 12 are pure gas ovens. The Gozney Arc XL also runs on propane only according to the Gozney help centre; wood and natural gas are excluded. On the Gozney Roccbox gas is standard, and a wood burner is available as an accessory.
Wood or charcoal come with the Ooni Karu 12 and the Ooni Karu 16; gas works there only with a separately bought burner. On the Karu 16, charcoal alone reaches only 250 to 300 °C according to Ooni; wood, wood on charcoal or gas reach 500 °C. The Ooni Fyra 12 runs on hardwood pellets, its parts list contains neither a gas connection nor electrical components, and it still needs attention: the hopper feeds down, but according to the instructions you have to refill it yourself.
If you are looking after guests at the same time during a pizza night, then in our assessment you are better served by gas. The Cozze Quattro 900 is a special case. It combines a pizza oven insert, plancha, grill grate and infrared zone. If you mainly want to bake pizza, then in our assessment you are better served by a dedicated pizza oven.
How big and how heavy can the oven be?
The Koda 12, the Roccbox, the Karu 12 and the Fyra 12 bake pizzas up to 30 cm. The Koda 16, the Karu 16 and the Arc XL go up to 40 cm. According to Ooni the Koda 12 weighs 9.2 kg, the Koda 16 18.2 kg and the Karu 16 28.4 kg. For the Arc XL the Gozney product page gives 26.5 kg, and for the Roccbox just under 20 kg. According to Ooni the Karu 12 weighs 12 kg and the Fyra 12 10 kg without the box. For the Quattro 900 Cozze gives no weight. If you often carry the oven alone or load it into the car, check these figures before size.
On the Arc XL the interior width of 427 mm is enough for one 40 cm pizza, not for two. On the Quattro 900 pizza stone of 35 × 36 cm, a 30 cm pizza leaves 5 cm of air on the narrow side, which is little room for manoeuvre when sliding the pizza in.
Do you need a thermometer in the oven?
The pizza base cooks via the stone, so the stone temperature is the more important figure. The Roccbox has a thermometer under the stone. The Arc XL comes with a display and probe. The Koda 16 and the Karu 12 have none built in, and for this Ooni recommends an infrared thermometer that you buy in addition. For the Koda 12 Ooni mentions none, but an infrared thermometer is listed among the accessories. The Karu 16 comes with a digital thermometer, but it measures the air in the oven and not the stone. The parts list of the Fyra 12 contains no thermometer.
Where may the oven stand?
All appliances on the list belong outdoors. For the Koda 16 the instructions allow use only outdoors, not in a building, garage or other enclosed area. For the Roccbox they name fire, explosion, injury or death as consequences in enclosed spaces. For the Fyra 12 Ooni prohibits use in enclosed or habitable spaces such as houses, tents, caravans, motorhomes and boats, because carbon monoxide poisoning is life-threatening.
Outdoors, clearances also count. For the Roccbox the German text of the instructions requires 3 m from buildings, the English text 1.5 m; we would plan with 3 m. The Arc XL has no door; Gozney warns against use in strong wind and when wind blows into the opening. The balcony question is answered in the FAQ and in our guide Grilling on a balcony.
Does the gas version match your bottle?
Gas ovens come in versions for different gas pressures. For Germany Ooni names the 50 mbar version for the Koda 16 and the Koda 12, and according to Gozney the Roccbox is also available for Germany with 50 mbar. For the Koda 12, according to the catalogue, the Amazon listing was the 37 mbar version without hose and regulator; we have not checked which version Santos Grills ships. For the Roccbox, Amazon listed a part number from Gozney’s 37 mbar group, while Santos Grills lists the grey Roccbox under the number of the German version. For the Arc XL it is not documented for the Amazon listing whether it is the version for Germany, and we have not checked the country version at Santos Grills. So ask for the article number before every order.
How this list came about
We have not handled any of these products ourselves. The basis is our individual reviews, which rely on manufacturer data, instruction manuals and retailer pages; where we make our own assessment, it says so there. The rating is our editorial rating based on build quality, performance, handling and value for money, as described in the rating methodology.
This list includes only pizza ovens whose review we have reworked and that were available on 21 October 2026 from at least one of our shops. Of these we show the 8 with the highest overall rating, in this order. We earn a commission on purchases made through our links, which varies in amount from shop to shop; it has no influence on the order.
