The four rating criteria
Every rating on TopGrillReviews uses the same grid. That makes scores comparable across products and categories.
1. Build quality (material quality and durability)
Materials, gap sizes, rust resistance, weatherproofing, scope of warranty. A grill that rusts through after two seasons cannot be a good buy, however cheap.
2. Performance (heat and result)
Heat-up time, maximum temperature, heat distribution, temperature stability and how well steak, poultry or vegetables actually turn out. For thermometers this means measuring accuracy and range, for fuels burn time and flavour quality.
3. Handling (everyday usability)
Assembly, ignition, temperature control, cleaning, mobility. The best grill is of little use if heating it up is a chore or the grease tray is a nuisance.
4. Value for money
What do you get for your money compared with the direct competition? A €200 grill with minor weaknesses can score better here than an almost perfect €1,500 model.
Where our data comes from
We work with three levels of sources: (1) official manufacturer data, data sheets and manuals (burners, output, grilling area, material, dimensions, care), (2) catalogue data from the Amazon catalogue and from the product feeds of our partner shops Santos Grills and Burnhard, such as price and manufacturer description, each with a retrieval date, and (3) documented assessments by independent institutes such as Stiftung Warentest, only with source and date and only where they exist. We do not evaluate customer reviews or sales ranks. The stars on our pages show our editorial rating, not a customer rating. Where a figure is an estimate, we mark it ("approx.").
We invent no lab results, no measured values and no customer reviews. If no reliable information is available for a criterion, it is left out: a gap beats a claim.
Badges and awards
Per category we award at most one "Comparison winner 2026" badge (best overall score) and one "Best value" badge (best value for money). In addition there are the editorial labels "Beginner's pick", "Premium choice" and "Editor's pick". All badges are based on our rating, none on sales figures. No manufacturer can buy a badge.
Affiliate funding and how we handle it
TopGrillReviews is funded through affiliate links (including Amazon PartnerNet). If you buy through one of our links, we receive a small commission; your price does not change. The rates differ by shop: Amazon, Santos Grills and Burnhard pay different amounts. The rating still follows the same four criteria for every product, and every product page also names clear drawbacks.
Updates
Every product page carries a visible "Last checked" date. Prices are guide values and can change at any time; the click to the shop always shows the current price. Older reviews are revised as soon as something relevant changes on the market (successor models, price movements, new results from independent institutes). Prices on this site are in euros from Amazon.de and may differ in your country.
