Our assessment: The Deluxe BBQ suits you if you want, at ground level in the garden, a fire bowl with a hanging grate and a smoker box in a single purchase and occasionally hot-smoke briefly. We would not choose it for balconies, for low and slow, or if you need to know before buying how large the grate and bowl are, or expect a manual, warranty and spare parts from the manufacturer.

In brief8.2/10

The Deluxe BBQ 80 cm is a fire bowl on three legs with an attached swing arm, a stainless steel grate and, according to Amazon, an included smoker box, for approx. €170. The seller does not say what the 80 cm refers to, and there are no manufacturer documents. Our assessment: suitable for ground-level gardens and brief hot smoking on a small scale.

Three legs under the bowl, the grate hangs from the swing arm

When you read “tripod swing grill”, you think of three long poles meeting above the fire, with the grate swinging from the top. The Deluxe BBQ 80 cm is built differently, and the product image on Amazon shows this clearly. Its three legs stand under the fire bowl. They splay diagonally outwards, end in round plate feet and attach to a cone-shaped centre piece that sits under the bottom of the bowl. On top of that sits a black, round bowl with a wide, flat rim.

The grate is carried by a curved tube. It rises vertically at the left edge of the bowl and then leans over the centre. From its tip, a single thin line runs to a carabiner, and from there three lines go to the grate ring. Whether these are chains or wire ropes cannot be told from the photo. On the vertical part of the tube there is a row of small pins. The image suggests that the suspension is hooked in there at different heights; we have no text that confirms this.

In terms of construction, then, this is more a fire bowl with an attached swing arm than a classic swing grill. That has a practical consequence. Embers and grate form one unit and stay aligned with each other wherever the grill stands. With a true tripod, you are responsible for this yourself: the fire pit, bowl or hole must lie centrally under the tips.

The grate is round, has an outer ring and parallel bars. It and the tube are silver, the bowl and legs black. The unit is sold under the brand “Sven Wilke/Fa. Feuerwerk-Planet”. With us it is in the category charcoal grills, because Amazon states charcoal as the fuel. Our price box shows approx. €170 (as of September 2026).

Stainless steel, varnish and two colours

The material details come without exception from the data fields of the Amazon listing. There, stainless steel appears three times: as material, as frame material and as handle material. No steel grade is given. As the finish, Amazon lists “Varnished”, and as the colour “Black, Silver”.

The two statements only fit together if they refer to different parts. In the photo, the grate, swing arm tube and handle are silver and bare, the bowl and legs black. It is plausible that the varnish is on the black parts. What lies underneath remains open: varnished stainless steel or varnished mild steel. For the frame, stainless steel is stated, but which component Amazon means by “frame” is not defined.

For use, this is not a minor detail. A fire bowl is the component under the highest heat load on the whole grill, as the embers lie directly on its sheet metal. Varnish on this sheet metal generally discolours on fire bowls and flakes off over time; that is true of all varnished bowls and is not a finding about this model. Underneath, the metal decides whether surface rust appears. For the bare grate the situation is simpler: stainless steel needs neither seasoning nor oil against rust there.

Four parts are listed as included: the tripod, the fire bowl, the grill grate and a smoker box. The swing arm does not appear separately in this list, but in the photo it can be seen firmly attached to the bowl.

In detail: controlling heat through distance

A kettle grill has vents at the bottom and top with which you control the oxygen supply and thus the embers. In the product image of the Deluxe BBQ, no vents can be seen, and according to the included parts it has no lid either. That leaves a single control variable: the distance between grate and embers.

This works because at an open fire most of the heat arrives as radiation. Radiation decreases markedly with distance. If the grate hangs just above the embers, food browns quickly on the outside; a few notches higher, it cooks through more slowly. An old rule of thumb for this is the hand test: hold your hand flat at grate height and count how many seconds you can bear it. A few seconds mean direct, strong heat, clearly more mean medium heat. It is not precise, but on a grill without a thermometer it is the tool you have.

The swinging that gives the swing grill its name offsets a typical drawback of the fire bowl. The embers are usually denser in the middle than at the edge, and what lies there is done sooner. A grate that swings back and forth moves with the food over hotter and cooler areas. Whether this grate can swing freely or can only rotate cannot be judged from a still photo. It does hang from a single point, though, and that is the precondition for both.

Amazon mentions a “heating element”. For a charcoal grill, that simply means: an area of embers. You create a second zone only by pushing the charcoal to one side and leaving part of the bowl free. The hanging grate stays central above the bowl, so the cooler area lies at the edge of the grate and not beside it.

Wind is the biggest disturbance factor with an open bowl. It fans the embers on one side, the charcoal burns down faster, and sparks fly further. We would therefore settle on a sheltered spot before any other question. How much charcoal you need for a bowl of this size depends on its diameter, and that is precisely not documented. What helps when charcoal does not burn through is covered in our guide Charcoal will not burn through.

Can I really smoke with the smoker box?

Smoke aroma on sausages, vegetables or fish, yes; long, low-temperature cooking, no. According to Amazon a smoker box is included, and the listing also mentions a slot for smoking wood and “Grill, Smoker” as the cooking system. The unit has no lid.

The principle of a smoker box is similar across all manufacturers: wood chips lie in a perforated metal container that stands on or next to the embers. Because little air reaches the chips, they smoulder instead of burning and give off smoke. What the box of this model looks like, how big it is and where it sits, we do not know. It is not visible in the product image. Amazon also lists “Number of drawers: 1”. That fits a drawer or a pull-out compartment, and we read the slot for smoking wood that way. This reading is not confirmed.

The missing hood makes the biggest difference. In a smoker or a closed kettle grill, the smoke stays in the cooking chamber and surrounds the meat for hours. Over an open bowl, it passes the food once and is gone. Temperature matters too. Low and slow, meaning pulled pork or beef brisket at 110 to 120 °C over many hours, requires embers that you can throttle via the air supply. An open fire bowl cannot do that.

What remains is hot smoking on a small scale: salmon fillet, trout, sausages, peppers or cheese that only spend a short time on the grate anyway, and wood chips that give the food a smoky note. Which wood suits which meat and whether you should soak chips is explained in our guide Smoking on the grill.

Lighting, extinguishing, ash: what applies in general

We did not find an instruction manual, and the Amazon section for safety and product documents also would not load when retrieved on 20 October 2026. The following points are therefore general rules for an open charcoal fire, not requirements from this manufacturer.

The grill belongs on firm, level, non-combustible ground, so paving stones, gravel or soil, not a wooden deck or lawn in dry weather. Three legs do not wobble on uneven ground the way four would. The swing arm, however, sits on one side at the edge, so if you pull on the loaded grate or lean on the rim of the bowl, you load the grill off-centre. Nothing that can catch fire should hang above the bowl: awnings, parasols, branches.

For lighting, people use firelighter cubes or a chimney starter. Methylated spirits and petrol are taboo at an open charcoal fire because flash fires can occur; that applies regardless of the appliance. Children and pets keep their distance, as the grate on its lines is reachable from all sides.

Embers in an open bowl burn out most safely. Water on hot sheet metal creates steam, whirls up ash and puts the varnish under stress. Ash that looks cold can still glow inside. It goes first into a metal bucket with a lid and later into the residual waste, never into the organic waste bin or a plastic bucket.

The stainless steel grate is best cleaned while it is still warm, with a grill brush.

What the manufacturer does not state

These details are missing in every source we could use: whether the 80 cm in the title refer to the grate or the fire bowl, the diameters of both parts individually, the height of the tripod, footprint and packed size, the weight, stainless steel grade and material thickness, the type of height adjustment and its range, dimensions and function of the smoker box, grilling area in square centimetres, number of people, maximum temperature and charcoal requirement, assembly time and tools, minimum distances and setup notes, warranty, spare parts and care instructions, as well as matching accessories such as a cover.

The reason is simple. A manufacturer page does not exist in a reachable form, the domain feuerwerk-planet.de returns a DNS error, and our search by brand and product produced neither a brand page nor a data sheet. Everything stated above about the unit comes from the Amazon listing B007DJZ4PC, retrieved on 20 October 2026, and from the product image.

When retrieved, a second, similarly named 80 cm listing appeared under “Customers also viewed”. We have not checked whether it is the same unit. When ordering, pay attention to the ASIN.

These three alternatives are worth a look

Model The difference Price Our rating Choose this one if
Deluxe BBQ 80 cm Swing Grill Smoker (this one) Fire bowl on three legs with attached swing arm, smoker box in the set approx. €170 8.2 you want bowl, grate and smoker box in a single purchase
Lemodo swing grill with fire bowl and goulash cauldron 55 cm grate, goulash cauldron instead of smoker box approx. €129.95 8.0 you also cook stew or mulled wine at the fire and grill for a smaller group
HeRo24 stainless steel tripod swing grill 60 cm Crank with stainless steel cable according to the manufacturer, no fire bowl included approx. €224.95 8.6 you already have a fire pit and want to crank the grate height instead of rehanging it
Grillrost.com The Original grill swing arm stainless steel Swing arm with ground sleeve instead of legs, grate and chain separate approx. €320 8.6 you want to set up a permanent grilling spot in the garden

The prices come from our price boxes as of September 2026 and change. The rating is our editorial assessment from the data comparison; it says nothing about how large the grate of the Deluxe BBQ is relative to the 55 and 60 cm of the others, because that very assignment is missing.

When this grill, when another

If you already have a fire pit, whether built of brick, as a hole or as a separate bowl, you do not need a second one. In that case the HeRo24 swing grill is the more obvious choice. In our price box it stands at approx. €224.95 against approx. €170 for the Deluxe BBQ, but you crank the height instead of rehanging a suspension.

For a permanent spot in the garden where you grill every summer, a swing arm with a ground sleeve is the more stable solution. The grill swing arm from Grillrost.com costs approx. €320 instead of approx. €170, and grate and chain have to be added separately. If, on the other hand, you put the grill in the garage in autumn, you are better served by a freestanding unit like this one.

If you also cook at the fire, the cauldron counts. The Lemodo with goulash cauldron costs approx. €129.95 and has a 55 cm grate. Whether that is enough for your group depends on the number of guests; how much grate area per person you should plan for is worked out in our guide Planning a barbecue party.

For serious smoking, none of the four is the right choice. If you want to cook beef brisket overnight, you need a closed cooking chamber, so a smoker or at least a kettle grill with a lid. The same applies to anyone who expects a manual, warranty terms and spare parts from the manufacturer; these are completely missing here, and we would not dismiss that as a side issue. If you have not yet decided between designs, the Grill Finder offers a shortlist.

We would choose the Deluxe BBQ if you want, at ground level in the garden, a fire bowl with a hanging grate without buying two parts separately, and want to occasionally flavour fish or sausages with wood chips. We would not choose it for balconies, for low and slow, or for anyone who needs to know before buying how large the grate actually is.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about Deluxe BBQ 80 cm Schwenkgrill Smoker

Short, clear answers about buying, using and caring for Deluxe BBQ 80 cm Schwenkgrill Smoker.

Do the 80 cm refer to the grate or to the fire bowl?

That remains open. In the Amazon title, the 80 cm come directly after “Deluxe BBQ”, with no assignment to a component. In the product image, the grate ring visibly ends within the wide rim of the bowl, so the two parts are not the same size. If you later look for a replacement grate or a made-to-measure cover, measure your own unit instead of relying on the number in the title.

Do I have to assemble the grill myself?

At least partly, even though the Amazon data field “Assembly required” says No. The same page lists tripod, fire bowl, grill grate and smoker box as separate components. Placing the bowl on the legs and hanging the grate is therefore left to you. Whether screws and tools are needed for this and how long it takes is not described by any source we found.

Where is the grill made?

In China, as stated in the country of origin field on Amazon. Which factory makes it there is not known. If you want a documented origin in Germany, our catalogue points you to the grill swing arm from Grillrost.com, whose manufacturer states German production. It costs approx. €320, but it is a swing arm to be set into the ground and comes without a fire bowl.

Can I use the grill on a balcony?

Amazon classes it as outdoor, and there is no mention anywhere of approval for balconies. Whether an open charcoal fire is allowed where you live is governed by your tenancy agreement and house rules, not by the grill. Then there is the design: a fire bowl without a lid and without a spark guard lets smoke and sparks rise freely, and for neighbours above you that is the usual point of dispute. We would only set it up at ground level.

Is the grill easy to transport?

We cannot say, because no weight is given. Amazon lists “Portable” as the grill design and stainless steel as the handle material. In the product image there is a silver bow handle on the left rim of the bowl, and on the right a second part is hinted at on the rim. No image shows whether the legs and swing arm can be removed for the boot of a car. For camping we would advise a model with a stated packed size.

What do I need in addition to what is included?

Charcoal or briquettes, a firelighter, long grill tongs, heat-resistant gloves and, for the smoker box, wood chips. According to Amazon, none of this is included, and neither is a cover. With a hanging grate, the gloves are more than an accessory: if you turn or rehang the hot ring, you reach directly over the embers. For a cover you need diameter and height, so a folding rule rather than a data sheet.

Are there spare parts, and who do I contact if there are problems?

We did not find a spare parts programme, and the address feuerwerk-planet.de cannot be opened. Your contact is therefore the retailer you buy from. Make a note of model number 49 and the ASIN B007DJZ4PC, both of which are in the Amazon catalogue; there, the model number is identical to the item number. If the grate breaks, the fallback is a universal grate, which you would then have to measure yourself.
