We have not handled the HeRo24 set and have not grilled anything with it. This text compares stated information: the manufacturer’s product page together with its two PDF sheets (read on 12 October 2026) and the Amazon catalogue (retrieved on 5 October 2026).
What is in the set
A swing grill is a tripod from which a round grate hangs over an open fire. It has no lid and no burner; the heat comes from the fire pit underneath. We list it under charcoal grills because charcoal or wood is usually what glows there.
According to the product page, HeRo24 GmbH from Gronau is brand and manufacturer in one; in the commercial register it is entered under HRB 21635 at the Osnabrück local court. It sells the set on its own site as “Stainless steel tripod swing grill frame & bag with 70 cm chrome-plated grate” (original German product name), item number 71878, EAN 4260687071878. Amazon lists 71878 as the part number and E-70(R) as the model. The Amazon title, however, states a stainless steel grate of 60 cm.
According to the product name, the scope of delivery includes frame, bag and grate. A fire bowl appears neither in the name nor in the manufacturer’s description: you bring the bowl or fire place and the fuel yourself.
The Amazon catalogue showed approx. €225 on 5 October 2026, which is the reference value of our price box; on 14 October 2026 the item was unavailable at Amazon.
Which grate arrives: 60 or 70 cm?
The sources do not allow a decision. The only certainty is that part number 71878 belongs to a grate of Ø 70 cm at the manufacturer; the Amazon page contradicts itself on size and material.
In detail: the Amazon title reads “Swing grill frame (stainless steel grate 60 cm)”, the size field “Ø 60 cm”. One line of the bullet list, by contrast, speaks of a grate of 70 cm. Our page title adopts the 60 cm of the Amazon title; in the data sheet both figures are shown side by side.
At the manufacturer, the sizes are separate items. According to the product page, item 71878 has a grate of Ø 70 cm, chrome-plated, with a 2 cm high rim and three eyelets for attaching the chain. It lists the 60 cm variants under other numbers, some with a chrome-plated grate, some with a stainless steel grate. For the stainless steel grate 70758 the shop states a bar diameter of 4 mm, for the 60 cm grate 71694 the bars are 6 mm; for 70741 it states 4 mm thickness and a bar spacing of approx. 1.3 cm. On hero24.eu no buy button points to Amazon, so the matching of ASIN B08WRM3B3M rests solely on the part number.
Our assessment: we would only order once title, bullet list and the selected variant on the Amazon page name the same grate size and the same material. At the manufacturer, item number and grate size are on the same page, so the match is unambiguous there; shipping is added on top.
Frame, cable and grate: material and dimensions
According to the product page, the frame is made of stainless steel. The length of the feet is given there as “1.70 cm”; very probably 1.70 m is meant (our assumption, Amazon states a height of around 175 cm). General geometry: three feet stand on uneven ground without wobbling, because three points define a plane. The adjustable foot height serves to compensate for slopes, and the manufacturer expressly describes each foot as also suitable for sloping positions. The upper leg sleeve has Ø 28 mm, the lower leg Ø 25 mm, both made of stainless steel, and at the bottom sits a plastic foot meant to prevent slipping.
Cable, hooks and swivel are also stainless steel according to the manufacturer. For the grate the sources diverge: the manufacturer’s page for 71878 calls it chrome-plated, the Amazon bullet list chrome-plated steel, the Amazon title a stainless steel grate. General materials science: a chrome layer is a coating on steel, whereas with stainless steel the rust protection lies in the material itself, and where the layer is scratched through, steel is exposed. The Amazon bullet list describes a stainless steel construction “for maximum stability, weather resistance and long service life”.
Dimensions and weight come solely from Amazon, and the catalogue does not say whether it means the assembled grill or the package: height 175 cm, length and width 125 cm each (68.9 and 49.2 inches), weight 12.0 kg (26.5 lb).
On transport, Amazon writes that the tripod can be folded quickly and carried in the bag. The manufacturer’s assembly sheet is a drawing without running text and, according to its file name (“3 bein Kurbel Montage”, German for “3-leg crank assembly”), applies to the crank tripods in general, not specifically to 71878. It shows two-part legs with wing screws, a crank on one leg and a chain with three hooks. The Amazon photo fits this: on the right leg, roughly mid-leg, a joint is visible; by our reading, the tripod is therefore taken apart rather than folded. The sheet’s parts list names PART A, B and C with 3 pieces each.
In detail: heat without a regulator
Our classification of the design: a swing grill has no regulator. How hot it gets at the grate depends on the amount of embers and on the distance at which the grate hangs above them. The radiant heat of the embers decreases with distance, and that is what the height adjustment is for.
The manufacturer describes it as infinitely adjustable, with crank and stainless steel cable, plus stainless steel hooks and a swivel meant to prevent the chain or cable from twisting. Amazon, by contrast, writes of a chain hoist. The Amazon photo shows both: from the crank on one leg a thin cable runs to the head of the tripod and vertically downwards, and from there three chain strands go to the rim of the grate. Our explanation of the component: a swivel is a rotating joint, so the grate can turn without twisting the cable.
Without a lid there is no indirect heat as in a kettle grill. A zone with less heat arises only in the fire pit, if you pile the embers up on one side, or at the edge of a grate that is larger than the ember area beneath it. How to set this up is covered in the guide Direct and indirect heat.
Fat dripping from the grate into the embers can trigger flames, and a lid to smother them is missing. The guide Preventing grease fires covers the basics of grease fires; the lid method described there does not apply to this tripod.
Costs: set, manufacturer’s series and spare parts
At the manufacturer, item 71878 costs €209.00 including VAT on 12 October 2026, with shipping added. Our own calculation: compared with the Amazon catalogue price of €224.95, that is €15.95 less, shipping not included.
In the series with crank and bag, the items in the manufacturer’s shop differ mainly in the grate. With a 70 cm stainless steel grate (item 70758) the series costs €259.95, so €50.95 more than 71878; with 80 cm (70765) it is €279.00. The frame without grate (70369) is in the shop at €184.95, €24.05 below 71878.
The manufacturer lists two other series more cheaply. The powder-coated variant with crank and chrome-plated 70 cm grate (item 0207) costs €144.95 in the shop, which is €64.05 below 71878; its frame is powder-coated instead of stainless steel. In the stainless steel T180S series, the grate hangs from a clasp, and according to the page you set the height via a chain with swivel. Item 72202 with a 70 cm stainless steel grate, at €159.00, is €50.00 below 71878; the whole series costs €139.00 to €169.00 depending on grate size (50 to 80 cm).
The manufacturer sells spare parts individually: a chain set (item 2660) for €24.95, designed for grates up to approx. 70 cm diameter, and a replacement grate 70 cm chrome-plated (item 0313) for €43.95. By our calculation, both together cost €68.90, about a third of the manufacturer’s price of €209.00.
Fuel and fire bowl come on top of the set price. More on fuels in general is in the guide Charcoal or briquettes.
Safety: what the manufacturer’s sheet says
The manufacturer provides a one-page PDF titled “Safety instructions and product information for grill frames, tripods and grill grates, accessories for grilling chains tongs warming racks” (original German title). It applies to the whole product group and not specifically to this set. The original contains typos, so we reproduce the content in paraphrase, but in full:
- Products operated with fire, charcoal or electricity should always be supervised.
- Never leave a fire pit unattended.
- Always wear leather gloves to avoid burns.
- Always keep children away from fire and hot objects.
- As hot objects the sheet lists: grill grates and accessories such as chains and tongs; grill frames, grill gallows and tripods; fire bowls with grill attachments and swing grills.
- Finally: always be careful.
Grate, chain and frame are all listed under the hot objects on the sheet. Our conclusion: gloves belong on for all three, not just for the grate.
In general, for an open fire, even though the sheet does not say so: only outdoors, because wood and charcoal produce carbon monoxide, with distance from roofing, hedge and dry grass, and dispose of ash only after it has cooled completely. Whether an open fire is permitted on a balcony is governed by the tenancy agreement and house rules; background is in the guide Grilling on a balcony.
What HeRo24 does not state
On these points we found nothing on the manufacturer’s page (as of 12 October 2026) or in the Amazon catalogue (retrieved 5 October 2026):
- Minimum distances to flammable objects, placement location, ground, wind protection, use on a balcony or terrace, carbon monoxide notes
- Fuel (wood, charcoal, briquettes), size of fire pit or fire bowl, consumption, extinguishing the fire, disposal of ash
- Load capacity of frame, crank and cable, maximum load on the grate
- Assembled dimensions and weight on the manufacturer’s page, packed dimensions, dimensions of the bag
- Stainless steel grade of frame, sleeves and cable, material of the wing screws, wall thickness of the tubes
- Maximum temperature of the grate, distance to the embers, cooking times
- Cleaning and care of grate and frame (the phrase “easy to clean” appears only in the Amazon bullet list)
- Standards, test marks, verification figures for weather resistance and food suitability of the grate
- Operating and assembly instructions in text form
- Manufacturer guarantee, origin and country of manufacture, spare parts list for this model, explicit fit of chain set and replacement grate to this set
- Number of people the grate serves (Amazon writes only of several people)
- Amount of shipping costs in the manufacturer’s shop (not retrieved by us)
What else is worth considering?
| Model | The difference | Price | Our rating | Choose this one if |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| HeRo24 Stainless Steel Tripod Swing Grill (this one) | Stainless steel frame with crank and bag; grate chrome-plated according to the manufacturer (71878), size and material contradictory in the Amazon listing | approx. €225 | 8.6 | you want frame, grate and bag from a single source and own a fire pit |
| Lemodo swing grill with fire bowl and goulash kettle | Fire bowl (2 mm thick), 55 cm grate and goulash kettle in the set, according to Amazon | approx. €130 | 8.0 | you do not yet have a fire bowl |
| Petromax tripod ft9 | Frame only with chain and hook, no grate, made of galvanised steel according to Amazon | approx. €75 | 8.5 | you already own a grate or fire pot and want to save on the frame |
| Grillrost.com Original Grill Gallows | Stainless steel gallows with ground sleeve instead of a tripod, 7 kg according to the manufacturer, grate and chain set extra | approx. €320 | 8.6 | you have a fixed place for a ground sleeve and want to order the grate to size |
More models are shown in the comparison of the best charcoal grills 2026. The prices are reference values from the price boxes of our reviews; the rating is our editorial assessment from manufacturer data, and we measured nothing. The difference column relies on the Amazon catalogue for Lemodo and Petromax, and on the manufacturer’s page for the gallows.
When the HeRo24 set fits, and for whom it does not
First the fire pit, because the set does not include one. If you do not yet own a bowl, the Lemodo swing grill costs €95 less than the HeRo24 set and, according to Amazon, includes bowl, grate and goulash kettle. If you are only looking for a frame, the Petromax tripod ft9 costs around €150 less; according to the catalogue, only a tripod with chain and hook is included there.
The Grillrost.com gallows is around €95 above the HeRo24, and grate and chain set are extra there according to the manufacturer. It needs a fixed place for the ground sleeve, whereas a tripod stands on three feet and, in our assessment, can be moved.
In our assessment, the fire pit matters more than the number of guests: its diameter determines how much of the grate hangs over the embers. If the set is to stand outdoors all year, the only evidence is the line on weather resistance in the Amazon bullet list. If you can do without the crank, look at the manufacturer’s stainless steel T180S series, which costs €139.00 to €169.00 there with a stainless steel grate (as of 12 October 2026).
The set is wrong for anyone who wants to grill on a balcony where the tenancy agreement or house rules prohibit an open fire, and for anyone who wants to cook slowly and indirectly: that needs a lid, so a kettle grill or smoker, and the Grill Finder helps with the choice.
We would buy the set if you already have a fire pit and the grate, crank and bag are worth the roughly €106 premium over the Petromax frame to you.
