A tripod that comes with the kettle
On Amazon the set is called “Swing grill with fire bowl, tripod grill with grill grate, hanging grill with goulash kettle, charcoal grill with accessories”. It means a single design: three long legs that meet at the top, a round grate on a chain and a fire bowl underneath. In the product photo the device has no lid, and there is no burner or switch. You build a fire, hang the grate and set the heat through the distance.
What separates the set from a plain grate tripod is in the scope of delivery: a large goulash kettle, two grill forks for sausages and a long bread-on-a-stick holder. The catalogue lists it as a black tripod grill, and the fire bowl has a 2 mm wall thickness and sturdy handles. In our catalogue it sits under charcoal grills, subtype swing grill, and costs approx. €129.95 (as of September 2026).
According to its own website, Lemodo is an e-commerce retailer with the own brands Lemodo and NATIV; whether the company manufactures itself, the site leaves open. lemodo.de does not list exactly this set, and we did not find a manual for it. All information on the set therefore comes from the Amazon listing. What comes from lemodo.de belongs to neighbouring models and is identified as such where it appears.
Construction and technology
The photo shows three long black legs, with the chain hanging from their apex. On it the round grate hovers over a flat bowl that stands on three short feet and has two handles on the rim. Beside it lie a kettle with a lid and three long rods, two with wooden handles and one with a black handle. Whether the lid belongs to the kettle is not clear from the Amazon text, which only says “goulash kettle”.
According to Amazon, the grate measures 55 cm in diameter. You change the height via the chain roller; Amazon writes that this lets you adjust the distance between fire and food and control the temperature. The device has no other adjustment, more on that shortly.
The catalogue lists a height of 70.87 inches (approx. 180 cm), length and width of 23.62 inches each (approx. 60 cm) and a weight of 30.86 pounds (approx. 14 kg). Length and width are identical, which for a tripod with a round bowl points more to an enclosing dimension than to a footprint. We do not derive a footprint from it. For the neighbouring model WE-2341, lemodo.de gives a frame height of 180 cm, a bowl diameter of 60 cm and 18 kg. The figures are close to each other, but belong to a different item.
The 2 mm wall thickness of the bowl is the figure you compare first on fire bowls, because thin sheet metal tends to warp under repeated heat. What 2 mm is worth also depends on diameter and material, and neither is in the catalogue.
In detail: controlling heat without a lid
A gas grill has control knobs, a kettle grill has vents. A tripod has neither. That leaves two levers: the distance between grate and embers and what burns in the bowl. The radiant heat of a fire drops off quickly with distance, so even a small length of chain changes a lot at the grate. Every change does, however, mean working by hand on hot metal.
On fuel, the general rule is: charcoal glows calmly and for a long time, wood burns with a flame and changes faster. If you use wood, you usually wait until the flames have died down and embers remain, otherwise soot settles on the grate and the food. Amazon calls the set a charcoal grill in its title and describes campfire evenings; there is no specification on fuel. How charcoal and briquettes differ is explained in the guide charcoal or briquettes.
There is also a quirk of the design. According to the photo, the bowl has no grease catch, so dripping fat falls into the embers and briefly makes flames flare up. That speaks for sausages and vegetables and against very fatty meat directly over the fire. If you want a hotter and a milder side, you push the embers onto one half of the bowl; the principle behind such zones is explained in the guide direct and indirect heat. It does not replace a closed lid: a tripod always cooks directly, and wind fans the fire or pushes it sideways.
Does the tripod carry the kettle?
According to Amazon, yes: the tripod grill is designed so that it can carry the goulash pot safely. The listing gives no load capacity in kilograms.
How much that matters is shown by a worked example with a different item. According to lemodo.de, the Lemodo goulash pot NA299 holds 14 litres and weighs approx. 2.5 kg empty; it has a handle with a mount for swing grill hooks. Filled with water, that would be around 16.5 kg on one chain, more than the whole set weighs according to the catalogue. Whether the kettle in the set is that large, we do not know; Amazon only writes “large”. The example is meant to show that a full kettle is the real load on the frame, not the grate.
With a tripod the load hangs centrally under the apex, which makes the design inherently stable, as long as the three legs stand on level ground and nobody pulls on the chain. A filled kettle over an open fire is still hot, heavy and hard to save once it starts swinging.
Amazon describes what the kettle is meant for as follows: soups, mulled wine and punch in winter. It hangs directly above the heat source, and anything thick or containing sugar burns on the bottom if nobody stirs. If you cook outdoors in the cold season, you will find more basics in the guide winter grilling. The Dutch oven guide is also a useful introduction to stews over embers, even though the kettle here hangs instead of standing.
What else is worth considering?
| Model | The difference | Price | Our rating | Choose this one if |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Lemodo swing grill with fire bowl and goulash kettle (this one) | Chain roller, kettle, two forks and bread-on-a-stick holder in the set | approx. €129.95 | 8.0 | you want to cover grilling and kettle dishes with one purchase |
| Lemodo swing grill with crank | Crank instead of chain roller, no goulash kettle in the set | approx. €58 | 7.6 | you only grill and price matters |
| Petromax tripod ft9 | Frame with chain only, no grate and fire pot | approx. €74.80 | 8.5 | you already have a grate, bowl or kettle, or want to choose them separately |
| HeRo24 stainless steel tripod swing grill 60 cm | Stainless steel frame with crank and carry bag, no fire bowl | approx. €224.95 | 8.6 | you transport the device often and are willing to pay more for the frame |
The prices are guide values from our price box, as of September 2026, and they change. The ratings are our editorial assessment based on data sheets. They are not measurement results, and the column does not compare performance at the fire, because we have not used any of the devices.
The prices in figures: the crank variant costs approx. €59, the Petromax frame approx. €74.80, the HeRo24 approx. €224.95 and this set approx. €129.95. According to our price box, the latter is currently not available (as of 14 October 2026).
When to choose this set, when another
It all comes down to whether you need the kettle. If not, the Lemodo with crank is the cheaper device. If you already own a grate and bowl and only want a frame, you get off cheaper with the Petromax tripod ft9, but then you source the kettle yourself and work out how it hangs on the frame.
If you grill by doneness level, a tripod is the wrong design. It has no lid, no thermometer and no zones you can set; for a steak cooked to the point or a whole piece of meat, a gas grill or kettle grill is better suited. Which design fits your grilling style is settled in a minute by the grill finder.
Transport matters if the set does not stand permanently in the garden. The catalogue gives approx. 14 kg for the whole thing, the bowl has handles, the legs are long. If you pack often, look at the HeRo24 with carry bag, which brings no fire bowl and therefore stands on its own.
Also plan for the additional costs: fuel and firelighters are not part of the set, and Lemodo does not mention a matching cover. Prices for charcoal or wood depend on pack size and retailer, and there are no reliable consumption figures for this bowl.
Setup, care and safety
We have no manual for this set. The safety notes below come from the lemodo.de page of the neighbouring model NA079, a swing grill with crank, and apply to this set only by analogy, not as manufacturer information. Lemodo gives these points there:
- The grill gets very hot.
- It must not be moved during use and must not be used in enclosed spaces.
- Do not use methylated spirit or petrol.
- Set it up only on level, fireproof ground.
- Keep children and pets away.
- Never leave a burning grill unattended.
That is how it appears in our fact collection on the manufacturer page; we cannot rule out that the list does not reproduce the notice block in full. In addition, as a general matter, and not as a statement by Lemodo: ash can still smoulder hours after extinguishing, and burning charcoal in enclosed spaces produces carbon monoxide. Only empty the bowl once everything is cold, preferably into a metal bucket. A stone or paving surface is the easier choice, because the bowl stands on only three short feet.
For the grate, forks and bread-on-a-stick holder, we would clean by hand with water and washing-up liquid and then dry them; that is a general recommendation from us and not a manufacturer specification.
What the manufacturer does not state
This information is missing from the Amazon listing and from lemodo.de for exactly this set:
- Capacity of the kettle
- Load capacity of the tripod in kilograms
- Length of the chain and the height range over which the grate can be adjusted, plus the distance between grate and embers
- Whether the height can be set continuously
- How the kettle is hung on the frame
- Whether the frame can be taken apart
- Material of frame, grate, kettle and bowl
- Diameter and height of the fire bowl
- Dimensions and weight from the manufacturer itself, as the catalogue only supplies converted values
- Grilling area and number of people
- Maximum temperature
- Minimum distances, setup notes, care and dishwasher suitability
- Duration and conditions of the manufacturer warranty
- Origin and spare parts availability
Who is it for?
For a group that wants to cook stew or mulled wine at an open fire and sausages and bread on a stick on the side. That is what the set is built for, and the scope of delivery is listed concretely in the catalogue.
It is not suitable for tenants without their own outdoor space and for anyone who wants to put something on the grate quickly after work, because the fire has to burn first. If you want figures from the manufacturer on kettle, load and dimensions before buying, you will not find them with this listing.
We would buy the set if the kettle, forks and holder are on your list anyway, and ask the seller about litres and load capacity before ordering.
