We have not handled the Grillrost.com G-1069 gallows, and we have not grilled anything on it. This text compares data: the manufacturer’s pages (checked on 06.10.2026), the Amazon catalogue (retrieved on 05.10.2026) and the data sheets of our own reviews. Our own calculations and assessments are marked as such.
What the G-1069 is, and what is not included
A gallows is a frame from which a grate hangs over a fire pit. It has no bowl and no lid, and the fire pit is missing as well: according to the manufacturer, the delivery includes only the gallows, without grate and without chain set. We list it under charcoal grills because charcoal or wood usually glows under a grate like this. You bring the fuel and the fire pit yourself.
The manufacturer calls the product Edelstahl Grillgalgen Schwenkgrill (stainless steel grill gallows swing grill), with the addition Steckbarer massiver Galgengrill (plug-in solid gallows grill), product number G-1069, EAN 4280001609006. Amazon lists the same number as the model. Grillrost.com Das Original is a family business that, according to the page markup, is based in Rottenacker and was founded in 2012. According to the company, all steel and stainless steel products are made 100 per cent in Germany, in two production halls of its own.
The Amazon catalogue shows approx. €320 (retrieved on 05.10.2026), the manufacturer’s shop shows €319.00 including VAT on 06.10.2026.
On the concept, the manufacturer writes in the Amazon listing that the gallows solves the classic problems of conventional swing grills. The description text on its page begins with the statement that the gallows is very stable and easy to handle.
The Amazon photo shows a vertical post with an arm going off to the right at the top and rising slightly. A round grate hangs from its end on three chain strands; from the other end of the tube another strand comes out and hangs next to the post.
Material, plug connection and two dimensions that do not match
According to the manufacturer, the gallows is made of rustproof stainless steel. The data sheet gives the material thickness as 3 mm, the dimensional drawing as 0.3 cm, and a manufacturer employee writes in reply to a customer question that the gallows is made from thick-walled stainless steel tube. For its products in general, the company names the material numbers 1.4301 and 1.4016, depending on the product. The two differ: 1.4301 is a nickel-containing chromium-nickel steel, 1.4016 a nickel-free chromium steel that is magnetic and, according to general materials science, less corrosion-resistant.
The gallows weighs 7 kg, and Amazon lists 15.43 pounds, which is 7.0 kg. The upper part can be rotated and removed at the plug connection, and according to the product page this connection is made of solid material. After use, the gallows can be taken apart by hand and stored compactly according to the manufacturer. It comes in a single length.
Two sources contradict each other on the dimensions. The manufacturer’s data sheet gives 230 x 100 x 15 cm (length, width, height), and Amazon lists the same values in inches. The dimensional drawing on the product page, by contrast, shows 199 cm height over the whole post, 96 cm for the arm tube, 67 cm horizontally from the centre of the post to the chain the grate hangs from, and 30.5 cm for the section between a flange ring on the post and the lower end of the post. We plan with the drawing because it shows the assembled gallows.
In detail: what the ground sleeve holds and what it does not
The ground sleeve is what sets this gallows apart from a tripod. The manufacturer’s statement concerns swivelling, not stability: the sleeve does not let the gallows swing to its centre of gravity on its own but holds it exactly in the position where you need it, and this happens through an elaborately made plug connector at the base of the sleeve.
On anchoring, the manufacturer comments in general terms, not on the G-1069: its blog of 07.05.2017 says a single-pole stand or gallows is usually anchored firmly in the ground, for example set in concrete, and that anyone who does not want that can use a sturdy parasol stand.
A gallows is a lever. According to the dimensional drawing the grate hangs 67 cm from the centre of the post, and every kilogram on it presses on the post base through this lever arm. The foundation and sleeve have to absorb the tipping moment, and the post has to bear the bending. How firmly the gallows stands in the garden therefore depends, in our assessment, more on what holds the sleeve in the ground than on the sleeve itself.
For the load capacity of the gallows there is a single figure, and it comes from a reply: asked about a large Dutch oven (notes on the pot: Dutch oven guide), a manufacturer employee in the customer questions section of the product page in the manufacturer’s shop answers that up to 80 kg there is no problem at all.
How large may the grate on the gallows be?
The manufacturer answers this twice: the description text names 90 cm diameter as the maximum, while the dimensional drawing shows grates from 30 to 100 cm. Both statements cover 90 cm; at 100 cm only the drawing applies.
On choosing a size, the manufacturer writes on its swing grill page that for grilling over an open fire it recommends grate diameters between 60 cm and 100 cm; an 80 cm grate is the all-rounder, with enough space for larger groups and an edge zone for keeping food warm. This page applies to swing grills in general, not specifically to the G-1069. Its blog of 07.05.2017 still named a minimum diameter of 70 cm and tied the size to the number of guests.
The made-to-measure grate (product page G-1030-rund) has a stainless steel frame ring of 20 x 4 mm as a rim and 5 mm round bars with 14 mm of space between them. As fixed sizes, the manufacturer lists 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100 and 130 cm diameter, which according to the page are usually ready to ship faster. The 130 cm is above both statements about the gallows. In the configurator, 50 cm without eyelets is preselected. You can also choose 3 eyelets and a free field for a different diameter.
The chain set (G-1038) consists of three strands of 70 cm each and one long strand of 2.5 m. It is made entirely of stainless steel, has a 250 kg breaking load and, according to the manufacturer, is designed to suit tripods and grill gallows as well as round grates up to 1 m in diameter. It has a swivel built in, so the grate can rotate endlessly. For larger grates the manufacturer makes a longer set on request.
What gallows, grate and chain cost together
On the gallows’ product page in the manufacturer’s shop on 06.10.2026, the accessories listed are the made-to-measure grate for €100, the chain set for €49 and a fire bowl in Corten steel look for €320. The grate page itself shows €110, for the default setting with 50 cm diameter without eyelets. Gallows (€319), chain set and grate come to €468 to €478 in the manufacturer’s shop, depending on which of the two grate prices you use (our own calculation). This is a minimum: the 50 cm of the default setting is below the 60 cm from which the manufacturer recommends grates on its swing grill page (the 2017 blog named 70 cm as the minimum size). A fire bowl comes on top if you do not have one, and at €320 in the manufacturer’s shop it costs about as much as the gallows.
The swing grill fire plate (G-1923) costs €79 in the manufacturer’s shop, and the manufacturer explicitly names it for tripods and grill gallows.
The manufacturer writes in its FAQ that it has no dealers and ships directly from the workshop. The product page in the manufacturer’s shop shows a badge with a 3-year guarantee, and after the statutory period ends, the manufacturer says in its FAQ that it looks for a solution in case of damage (Grillrost Family Garantie).
Open fire, no zones: heat and safety
The gallows has no lid, and under the grate nothing separates a hot zone from a cooler one, apart from what you build in the fire pit. For heat, the manufacturer’s swing grill page names the distance to the embers instead of a control: the temperature is not controlled by dials but by this distance, and with the grill gallows the grate can be swung sideways in and out over the embers. The closer the grate hangs to the embers, the hotter it gets.
On indirect grilling, the manufacturer writes for the tripod that it cannot be used for indirect grilling (blog, 07.05.2017). We expect the same for the gallows because the grate hangs open and without a lid (our assessment). The zone logic in detail is covered in the guide Direct and indirect heat.
According to the manufacturer, the grate size creates a cooler area: it recommends a grate one size larger than the fire bowl so that a cooler warming area remains at the edge. According to the manufacturer, the hanging fire plate turns the swing grill into a plancha.
We did not find instructions for the G-1069, and therefore no manufacturer safety notes on distance from flammable material, fire protection, carbon monoxide and siting. In general, for any fire pit (and this is not a statement from Grillrost.com): use it outdoors only, keep distance from roofing and hedges, keep children and pets away, and dispose of ash only after it has cooled completely. Whether an open fire in the garden is allowed is regulated by your local authority and your tenancy agreement.
What Grillrost.com does not state
We found nothing on these points on the manufacturer’s pages (as of 06.10.2026) or in the Amazon catalogue:
- Operating, assembly and siting instructions including safety notes (the product page has no download, and the FAQ, terms and conditions, returns, and payment and delivery pages contain nothing on it either)
- Installation depth, sleeve diameter and foundation, plus whether the sleeve stays in the ground after dismantling
- Outer diameter of the tube and wall thickness in millimetres (the 3 mm is the material thickness according to the data sheet)
- Stainless steel grade of the gallows
- Verified load capacity, tipping moment and wind load, maximum load at the end of the arm and weight of a grate
- Mechanism and range of the grate’s height adjustment
- Maximum temperature and minimum distance to the embers
- Care and cleaning notes, including for the chain routing
- Individual spare parts for the gallows, such as ground sleeve, plug connector or arm tube
- Start, scope and conditions of the guarantee badge (the terms and conditions refer back to the product page for this)
- Seller on Amazon and price parity with the manufacturer’s shop
- Number of people per grate size in figures (only rough guidelines)
- Return period in the manufacturer’s shop: the badge on the product page shows 100 days, the returns page 14 days (does not apply to purchases on Amazon)

Further models are shown in the comparison of the best charcoal grills 2026. The prices are guide values from the price boxes of our reviews (for the gallows, the Amazon catalogue of 05.10.2026); the rating is our editorial assessment from manufacturer data, we measured nothing. For the two tripods, the difference column follows the Amazon listings; for the HUB II, it follows the data of its review. The HUB II appears in the table with the highest rating in our category, not as a competitor: if you want to swing over an open fire, you compare the gallows with the tripods.
When the gallows suits you, and for whom it does not
Whether the gallows suits you is decided first by the ground. If you have a fixed fire pit in the garden and can install a sleeve, this is the design it was made for. According to the manufacturer’s blog, the tripod can be moved and stored. On paving or a terrace, a stand remains as an alternative. As a tenant, you clarify beforehand whether a foundation in the ground and an open fire are allowed.
For the number of guests, the manufacturer’s swing grill page roughly sorts the grate sizes by group: 60 cm for small family gatherings, 80 cm for family and friends, 100 cm as the event size for large groups. If you often grill for many guests, you should therefore, in our assessment, plan with 90 cm as the upper limit.
On budget, you compare frame with frame or complete package with complete package. The manufacturer’s own tripod (G-1068) costs €349 in the manufacturer’s shop, weighs 12 kg, has hinges that let the legs fold inwards, and measures 196 x 13 x 13 cm according to the data sheet. The gallows is €30 cheaper there and 5 kg lighter, but needs a fixed place for the ground sleeve.
You get away cheaper with the tripods from our catalogue. The HeRo24 costs approx. €225 and, according to the Amazon listing, comes with a chrome-plated grate and a carry bag (the grate size is given there once as 60 and once as 70 cm). The Petromax costs approx. €75, is made of galvanised steel according to the listing and comes without a grate.
With grate and chain (total above), the gallows in the manufacturer’s shop is more than double the HeRo24 price. In return, its grate is stainless steel and made to your measurements, whereas the HeRo24’s is chrome-plated steel according to the listing. Whether that is worth the extra to you depends on whether you want a made-to-measure grate or a ready-made set.
If you want to cook large cuts for a long time at low heat, you need, in our assessment, a lid and separated zones, and the gallows has neither. Kettle grills or smokers are built for that; the Grill Finder helps with the choice.
The gallows is wrong for anyone who grills over fire only once or twice a year: for so few evenings we would not spend the sum from above. It is equally wrong for anyone who often changes the grilling spot, because a sleeve set in concrete does not move with you. We would only buy the gallows if the sleeve gets a fixed place and the grate has been measured beforehand. If the location is uncertain, a tripod is the choice you can still change your mind about.
