Everdure HUB II: Fast Flame Ignition, Rotisserie up to 40 kg
The Everdure HUB II lights charcoal electrically with a heating coil and has a rotisserie for up to 40 kg, whose columns extend at the push of a button. It needs a power socket at the grilling spot and, according to the manual, holds at most 1.8 kg of charcoal at a time. It costs approx. €2,503 (Amazon, as of 24.09.2026).
Our assessment: The HUB II is a charcoal grill for people who want to light without a chimney starter and often grill on the rotisserie: the charcoal lights at the push of a button, and you set the height of the spit electrically. In return, it needs electricity for ignition, columns and motor and, with the minimum clearances from the manual, around 1.9 × 0.84 m of floor space.
Strengths according to our review:
- Lights the charcoal at the push of a button with a heating coil, without a chimney starter and without firelighters
- Rotisserie for up to 40 kg according to the manufacturer, columns extend steplessly at the push of a button and retract fully
- 3,270 cm² of grilling surface on two grates, which can be folded up for adding fuel
Weaknesses according to our review:
- Without a power socket at the grilling spot there is no ignition, no columns and no motor, and the German manual forbids firelighters
- Everdure does not describe cooking under a closed lid, and the lid serves as a windshield
Editorial rating 9.4/10, purchase route via Amazon. All data, sources and the FAQ are in the individual review of the Everdure HUB II.
Everdure FUSION: Electric Igniter Built In
The Everdure FUSION is a charcoal grill on a stand column: a heating coil lights the charcoal at the push of a button, and a motor turns the spit with up to 15 kg. Both need a power socket. Everdure advertises 10 minutes until the grill is ready, while the manual requires at least 30 minutes of red embers. On Amazon approx. €384 (as of September 2026).
Our assessment: Our assessment: The FUSION suits you if there is power at the grilling spot and you grill small groups directly over the embers or want to turn a chicken on the spit. We would only take the Amazon price once the seller confirms the HBCE1BSDE version including the stand and the full scope of delivery.
Strengths according to our review:
- Heating coil lights the charcoal at the push of a button, and the timer switches it off after 7 minutes
- Built-in rotisserie with motor, up to 15 kg according to the manual, locking into three heights
- Usable on the stand, on a raised work surface or on the ground
Weaknesses according to our review:
- Ignition and rotisserie need a power socket at the grilling spot, and the built-in cable is 1.5 m long
- According to the manual, the charcoal should glow red for at least 30 minutes before grilling, while 10 minutes until the grill is ready are advertised
Editorial rating 8.9/10, purchase route via Amazon. All data, sources and the FAQ are in the individual review of the Everdure FUSION.
LotusGrill G340: Fan on 4 AA Batteries or USB, Grate Ø 32 cm
The LotusGrill G340 is a round charcoal tabletop grill whose fan runs on 4 AA batteries or on the USB cable. It has no rechargeable battery. LotusGrill calls it low-smoke and states up to 5 people and approx. 3 to 4 minutes until it is ready for use. On Amazon approx. €179 (as of 05.10.2026), with charcoal and lighting gel extra.
Our assessment: Our assessment: The G340 suits you if you want to grill directly for up to five people and are looking for a tabletop grill of approx. 3.7 kg that, according to the manufacturer, works with little smoke. It changes nothing about a fire ban in house rules: an open flame burns when lighting, and it must not run in closed or habitable spaces. If you regularly grill for more than five people, look at the LotusGrill XL. We would not recommend it for hours of cooking at low heat.
Strengths according to our review:
- Low-smoke according to the manufacturer: a stainless steel plate in the middle of the grate covers the combustion chamber, so no fat drips into the embers
- Grill alone approx. 3.7 kg, carrying bag and four batteries are in the box
- Grate and inner bowl are dishwasher-safe according to the manufacturer
Weaknesses according to our review:
- No rechargeable battery: the fan needs 4 AA batteries or a USB cable with its own power adapter, which is not included
- Charcoal and lighting gel or paste are missing from the box, and an open flame burns when lighting
Editorial rating 8.8/10, purchase route via Amazon. All data, sources and the FAQ are in the individual review of the LotusGrill G340.

The Schickling Willy L Classic is a charcoal grill trolley with a double-walled stainless steel lid, two side shelves and a grate of 55 × 33 cm. It comes as a kit and costs approx. €663 on Amazon (as of 05.10.2026). According to Schickling, it is made of stainless steel, and in the base also of galvanised and powder-coated steel.
Our assessment: Our assessment: The Willy L Classic suits you if you want to grill indirectly under a closed lid, control the heat over five levels of the charcoal tray and assemble a kit. Allow approx. €663 plus accessories. If you need more grate area, look at the Walter XL. If you rarely grill, you probably do not need the lid and side shelves.
Strengths according to our review:
- Grates and charcoal tray made of stainless steel, the grate segments dishwasher-safe according to Schickling
- Charcoal tray height-adjustable in 5 levels, the handles stay cool according to Schickling
- Double-walled lid with thermometer (display up to 500 °C), intended for indirect grilling according to Schickling
Weaknesses according to our review:
- Approx. €663, and cover hood, chimney starter, charcoal divider and castors are extra, which by our calculation makes €800
- Grate 55 × 33 cm (up to 10 people according to Schickling), while the Walter XL has 71 × 45 cm
Editorial rating 8.7/10, purchase route via Amazon. All data, sources and the FAQ are in the individual review of the Schickling Willy L - Classic Grillwagen.
Grillrost.com Das Original Grillgalgen Edelstahl: Solid Stainless Steel, Dismountable, Made in Germany
The Grillrost.com G-1069 is a plug-in gallows made of stainless steel with a ground sleeve, weighing 7 kg and, according to the manufacturer, made in Germany. The grate and chain set are not included: with both, the manufacturer’s shop comes to at least €468 (grate with 50 cm, the smallest fixed size; larger diameters cost more there), while the gallows alone costs approx. €320 (Amazon catalogue, 05.10.2026).
Our assessment: Our assessment: The G-1069 suits you if you want a fixed frame over your own fire pit and can anchor the ground sleeve in the soil or in a load-bearing stand. If you only swing it occasionally, change the location or want a complete set, a tripod serves you better.
Strengths according to our review:
- Stainless steel with 3 mm material thickness according to the data sheet, made in Germany according to the manufacturer
- Top part can be removed at the plug connection, can be taken apart by hand and stored compactly according to the manufacturer (7 kg)
- Round grates made to measure and a matching chain set from the manufacturer, chain set with 250 kg breaking load
Weaknesses according to our review:
- In the manufacturer’s shop, €49 for the chain set and from €110 for the made-to-measure grate come on top (€110 applies to 50 cm; at 100 cm it is €250 according to the configurator)
- No instructions and no test values for stability: installation depth, foundation and safety notes are missing, and the only load figure (up to 80 kg) is an answer in the customer questions section
Editorial rating 8.6/10, purchase route via Amazon. All data, sources and the FAQ are in the individual review of the Grillrost.com Das Original Grillgalgen Edelstahl.

- At approx. 2.8 kg according to the product page, the lightest model in the LotusGrill range according to the manufacturer pages
- Low-smoke according to the manufacturer with clearly reduced smoke, in our reading not smokeless: a stainless steel plate is meant to stop fat dripping into the embers
- Carrying bag, four batteries and USB cable are in the box. Grate and inner bowl are dishwasher-safe according to the manufacturer
Weaknesses according to our review:
- No rechargeable battery: the fan needs 4 AA batteries or a USB cable with its own USB power adapter, which is not included
- Charcoal and lighting gel or paste are missing from the box, and an open flame burns when lighting

For indirect grilling you need the hood and water tray, together €119.80 in the manufacturer’s shop. If you serve more than three people at once, look at the THÜROS T2 or a larger grill. If your main aim is to spend little, the Enders Aurora Stone (approx. €80) offers a similarly sized grilling surface for less money.
Strengths according to our review:
- V2A/1.4301 stainless steel with 1 to 1.5 mm material thickness, made in the manufacturer’s own works in Georgenthal according to the manufacturer

- Direct heat only as delivered: for indirect grilling, the hood (€79.90) and water tray (€39.90) come on top in the manufacturer’s shop
- At most 250 g of charcoal or briquettes according to the service booklet, and the manufacturer does not state a burn time per load
Editorial rating 8.6/10, purchase route via Amazon. All data, sources and the FAQ are in the individual review of the THÜROS T1.

Buying guide: Which charcoal grill suits you?
How do you want to light it, and how long are you willing to wait?
This is where the devices on the list differ most. The Everdure HUB II and the Everdure FUSION light the charcoal with a heating coil whose timer runs for 7 minutes. Both need a power socket at the grilling spot for that, and the German manuals do not allow firelighters. You only partly save the waiting time: for the HUB II, according to the manual, most of the charcoal should be fully or partly glowing after about 10 to 15 minutes. For the FUSION, Everdure advertises 10 minutes until the grill is ready, while the manual requires at least 30 minutes of red embers.
The LotusGrill models (G280, G340, XL G435) work with a fan and lighting gel. According to the manual, they are ready for use after approx. 3 to 4 minutes. For that you need batteries or a USB power adapter, charcoal and gel, and an open flame burns when lighting. For the THÜROS T1, the manufacturer states neither the time until embers nor the burn time. It requires lighting aids according to DIN EN 1860-3 (a standard that applies in Germany and the EU) and forbids methylated spirits and petrol.
How many people are you grilling for?
What can mainly be compared is the grate size. The G280 has a grate of approx. 26 cm, the G340 one of 32 cm, the XL G435 one of approx. 40.5 cm. The manufacturer states up to 5 people for the G340 and up to 10 for the XL, while we would plan the XL more for six to eight. The T1 offers 30 × 30 cm, and the manufacturer writes 1 to 3 people.
Larger groups are served by the Schickling Willy L Classic with a 55 × 33 cm grate, up to 10 people according to Schickling, and the HUB II with 3,270 cm² on two grates. Everdure gives no number of people for it. The FUSION has only one grate of 44 × 33.5 cm according to everdure.de and holds at most 1.2 kg of charcoal, so in our assessment it is tight for large groups. With the Grillrost.com grill gallows you determine the size yourself, because the grate is made to measure. The manufacturer assigns 60 cm to small family groups and 100 cm to large groups.
Is open grilling enough, or do you need a lid?
All eight devices grill directly over the embers. Cooking indirectly with the lid closed works best on the Willy L Classic: it has a double-walled lid with a thermometer up to 500 °C and a charcoal tray with 5 levels, intended for indirect grilling according to Schickling. On the T1 you need the hood and water tray as accessories for that. The HUB II and the FUSION have only a lid that serves as a windshield according to Everdure. There you push the charcoal to the sides and leave an area free. For the FUSION, according to the review, neither a thermometer nor an air vent appears in the manufacturer’s documents.
The LotusGrill models control the heat via the fan, and according to the manufacturer one load burns for 40 to 90 minutes in the G340. In our assessment we would not take them for hours of cooking at low heat, because with 40 to 90 minutes per load you have to add more. The gallows has neither a lid nor zones. You set the heat via the distance of the grate from the embers.
Where will the grill stand, and what else comes with the device?
Tabletop grills can be carried: the G280 weighs approx. 2.8 kg according to the product page, the G340 approx. 3.7 kg, the XL 6.5 kg. The Willy L Classic weighs 42.5 kg according to Schickling and comes as a kit, and assembly takes 2 to 4 hours according to the manufacturer. The HUB II weighs 77 kg according to everdure.com and requires 250 mm of clearance from flammable materials at the sides, so it is large and heavy. With the gallows, the frame weighs 7 kg, but the ground sleeve needs a fixed spot.
Something often comes on top of the device price. With the gallows, the grate and chain set are missing, and the price in the table applies to the frame only. The cheapest device on the list is the T1, the most expensive the HUB II. With the Willy L Classic, castors and a cover hood are missing. With the LotusGrill models, charcoal, lighting gel and USB power adapter are not in the box. Whether you may grill with charcoal on the balcony is decided by your tenancy agreement and house rules.
How this list came about
We have not handled any of these products ourselves. The basis is our individual reviews, which rely on manufacturer information, instruction manuals and retailer pages. Where we make our own assessment, it says so there. The rating is our editorial rating based on build quality, performance, handling and value for money, as described in the rating methodology.
Only charcoal grills whose review we have newly revised and that were available at at least one of our shops on 21.10.2026 are included in this list. Of these, we show the 8 with the highest overall rating, in this order. We earn a commission on purchases made through our links, which differs in amount depending on the shop. This has no influence on the order.
