Two plates, one smooth, one ribbed
The Solis Deli Grill is an electric table grill that the manufacturer calls “Tischgrill, Typ 7951” (table grill, type 7951) in its manual. It has two grill plates side by side, each with its own control and its own heating system. The plates are not identical: according to the manual, one is flat and the other ribbed. The catalogue photo shows it the same way, with the smooth surface on the left, the ribs on the right, and a stainless steel splash guard behind and at the sides.
The fact that Solis builds the two heating systems separately sets it apart from a table grill with one continuous surface. The manual assigns uses to the surfaces: the ribbed surface is said to be ideal for meat, while the manufacturer names the smooth one for fish, seafood and vegetables. You set how hot each plate gets on two controls. Two cooking levels at the same time are therefore the core idea of the model. That would not be possible on a continuous surface with a single control, where one dial sets the heat for everything on it.
We have not had the grill in our hands and have not cooked anything on it. Everything here comes from the German manual, from the Swiss manufacturer page and from the Amazon catalogue. We mark our own assessment as such.
Design and technology
According to the manual, the grill plates are made of solid die-cast aluminium. The heating elements are cast into the plates and sealed, so they are not a heating coil under a sheet of metal. Amazon names the non-stick coating as Whitford Xylan, and the manufacturer page lists it as PFAS-free. According to the manufacturer page, the housing is brushed stainless steel in silver.
Amazon and the manufacturer page give the power as 2,200 W. The manufacturer does not state an output per plate. According to the manual, the dimensions are approx. 49.5 × 18.5 × 40.5 cm (width, height, depth) and the weight approx. 9.5 kg. Amazon gives the height as 4.45 inches, so around 11.3 cm. That contradicts the manual, and we follow the manual.
Each plate measures 20 × 32 cm according to Amazon. By calculation that is 640 cm² per plate and 1,280 cm² in total. The calculation is ours, and no total area is stated anywhere. We do not derive one from the outer dimensions of the appliance, because those include the housing and the rim.
The grease runs through a drain opening in each plate into a removable grease channel and from there into a grease collection drawer that can be pulled out of the appliance. The splash guard is made of stainless steel, comes in two parts and is removable. The manual describes it as optionally attachable. According to Amazon, the package includes two spatulas, made of plastic according to the manual, one smooth and one ribbed.
In detail: controls, traffic light and thermostat
The two controls are continuously variable. There are no detents and no scale in degrees Celsius. So you set them by the knob position, not by a number.
A light ring surrounds each control. While the plate is heating up, it glows red. When it turns green, the plate has reached the set temperature, and the manufacturer speaks of a traffic-light principle. After that, the thermostat switches the heating on and off by itself to hold the temperature. Aluminium conducts heat well and spreads it across the plate surface. That is an inference from the material, and there is no measurement for this appliance. Green therefore means “target reached”, not “currently heating”.
There is a trap in the manual itself. If a control is set to 0, the standby indicators glow green even though nothing is heating. If you go only by the colour, you may take a switched-off appliance for one that is ready to use.
For heating up, the manual specifies approx. 15 minutes. The old version of this review said 8 to 10 minutes, for which no source could be found, so that value has been deleted.
One more detail matters for the two-zone idea. The controls work separately, so according to the manual you can heat just one plate. However, both plates must be inserted, because Solis writes that you must never operate the appliance with only one grill plate inserted. The plates can be swapped between left and right.
Are two plates of 20 × 32 cm enough?
No source gives a number of portions or people. We calculate it ourselves: 640 cm² holds a 2 cm steak and a few sausages, and then one plate is full. Our assessment: for one to two people that is enough, and for four people it comes down to several rounds.
The smooth plate takes things that would otherwise fall through ribs or stick, such as fried eggs or prawns, as the catalogue photo shows them. We cannot judge whether that works as well on the coating as it looks there.
What else comes into question?
Three appliances from our catalogue that a buyer weighs against the Solis because they follow similar two-zone concepts.
| Model | The difference | Price | Our rating | Choose this one if |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Solis Deli Grill 7951 (this one) | two separate plates, smooth and ribbed, continuously variable controls | approx. €200 | 8.2 | you need fish and vegetables next to meat on separate surfaces |
| WMF Lono Master Grill | two zones on one continuous surface | approx. €117.99 | 9.0 | you want to spend less and want a continuous surface |
| KLAMER Elektrogrill Duo-Platten | duo plates with 5 grill levels instead of continuously variable controls | approx. €120 | 7.9 | your budget is clearly under €200 and you like stepped settings |
| Enders eURBAN PRO 2 Turbo | enamelled cast grate with turbo zone instead of non-stick plates | approx. €215 | 8.5 | you value searing flavour from a grate more than plates for the dishwasher |
The Solis costs approx. €82 more than the WMF and approx. €80 more than the KLAMER, and the Enders costs approx. €15 more than the Solis. The prices come from our price boxes and fluctuate. The rating is an editorial assessment, and we took over the differences between the sibling models from our catalogue entries without checking them on their manufacturers’ pages. The table is not a measurement result.
In our rating, the Solis ranks behind two appliances, one of which costs clearly less and one only slightly more. If you only want two zones, you do not need the Solis.
When to choose this grill and when another
If you want to grill on a balcony or in the garden, the Solis is the wrong choice. The manual says the appliance is not designed for outdoor use. That contradicts the old version of this review, which named a sturdy garden table as the location. Alternatives are listed in the electric grill category. Whether an appliance there is approved for outdoor use is stated in its own manual.
On space and weight: at approx. 9.5 kg and 49.5 cm wide, the Solis is not an appliance you casually put away in a drawer, and the manual requires at least 50 cm clearance to walls all round. In a small kitchen where you put the grill away after every use, that weighs more than for an appliance that stays on the worktop permanently.
If searing flavour from a grate matters to you, a coated plate fits only to a limited extent, and for that there is the Enders with a cast grate at a higher price. If you eat a lot of vegetables and fish, you will really make use of the smooth plate. If, on the other hand, you mainly cook steaks for two, you do not need a second zone and will manage with the cheaper WMF. If you want to keep splashes under control, the stainless steel splash guard at the back and sides is an advantage, which the manual itself qualifies: grease splashes can occur during grilling, so the surroundings should be insensitive to them.
The basic question of which grill type suits your everyday life is answered by the Grill Finder and the guide Buying a grill.
Cleaning, care and safety according to the manual
Here the wording of the manual applies. The grill plates can be removed and cleaned “unter fliessendem Wasser und sogar im Geschirrspüler” (under running water and even in the dishwasher). According to the manual, the splash guard, grease collection drawer, grease channel and spatulas are also dishwasher-safe. All of these parts can alternatively be cleaned in hot water with mild washing-up liquid. Solis forbids abrasive or solvent cleaners and scouring pads with a flat “keinesfalls” (under no circumstances). You clean the base of the appliance only with a slightly damp cloth.
For the coating, the manual allows only utensils made of heat-resistant plastic or wood, never metal, and nothing is cut on the plate. Solis calls discolouration and scratches “normale Abnutzungserscheinungen” (normal signs of wear), and they are not covered by the warranty.
On safety, the manual includes the following points, among others, which we reproduce as an excerpt, not as a complete list:
- Minimum distance of 50 cm from walls, curtains and materials sensitive to heat or steam, enough space above, and never flambé.
- The surface should be firm, dry and stable and not covered with textiles, such as a tablecloth.
- Never cover the appliance with cloths while it is in operation or still warm.
- Never move the appliance while it is switched on, because the surfaces get very hot and can cause burns.
- The appliance, plates and splash guard remain very hot for some time after grilling.
- Pull the mains plug after every use, only then is the appliance finally switched off.
- Extinguish a burning appliance only with a fire blanket.
The manual contains more than these sentences. Read it in full before switching on for the first time. It is available as a PDF on the manufacturer page.
Warranty, availability and what Solis does not state
There is no documented manufacturer statement on the warranty for Germany. The Swiss manufacturer page advertises “2 bis 5 Jahren Garantie auf alle Geräte” (2 to 5 years of warranty on all appliances), and that applies to purchases in Switzerland or Liechtenstein. For purchases in Germany, the manufacturer warranty is therefore not documented.
The Swiss manufacturer page currently shows the grill as temporarily unavailable. At Amazon, it has been listed since 2 July 2018 according to our catalogue entry. On our page it appears at approx. €200 according to the price box, and at Amazon it stood at €199.90 on 20 October 2026; you should check price and availability yourself before buying.
What Solis does not state, at a glance:
- the maximum temperature in degrees Celsius,
- the output per plate and the consumption in kWh,
- the length of the power cable,
- the country of manufacture, and
- a spare parts list beyond the two grill plates.
Who is it for?
The grill is not suitable for commercial use, as the manual restricts it to household use. Nor is it suitable for children under 8 years: they must never use or clean the appliance, and the appliance and cable must be kept out of their reach. According to the manual, you must never operate it with a timer or remote control, so a socket with a timer is ruled out.
It is suitable for households that grill indoors and value two surfaces of different types. If you do not need that, you save approx. €82 with the WMF Lono Master Grill according to our price boxes.
