What the Lono Master is
In the WMF shop the Lono Master is listed under the CMMF 3200000068, and the operating instructions dated 11/24 call it model 0415280011. The instructions are published by WMF Business Unit Consumer GmbH in Geislingen an der Steige; WMF has belonged to the French Groupe SEB since 2016.
On Amazon the model number appears as the model and part number of exactly the ASIN that our price box links to. So what is meant is the grill on its own, without the stand with which WMF also sells it as a set. Amazon’s catalogue gives 31 May 2017 as the release date.
The product photo above, a catalogue image, shows it from an angle at the front. The two ribbed plates together form a flat rectangle, and the windshield rises along the back and the two short sides. At the front there is a rotary dial with a numbered scale on the left and right.
Our price box lists the Lono Master at Amazon at approx. €118 (as of 2 October 2026); in the WMF online shop it cost €129.99 on 1 October 2026. In our electric grill category it stands at 9.0 points. That is an editorial rating, not a measurement result: the grill was never with us, and we have not grilled anything on it.
Plates, housing, scope of delivery
Grilling happens on two cast aluminium plates with a non-stick coating. The heating elements sit in the plates themselves, and according to WMF each draws 1,200 W. Together the plates measure 28 × 50 cm, and the product page speaks of up to 1,400 cm² of grilling area. In the drawings in the instructions both have ribs, and so do they in the product photo.
WMF gives two figures for power. The product page says 2,400 W, the instructions a power consumption of 2,000 to 2,400 W at a rated voltage of 220 to 240 V and 50 to 60 Hz. By our calculation the two fit together, because a heating element converts power that grows with the square of the voltage. At 220 instead of 240 V that is 84 per cent, so 2,400 becomes a good 2,000 W.
Electrically the grill belongs to protection class I, so its metal housing is connected to the protective earth conductor. It is made of Cromargan. That is what WMF has called its stainless steel since 1930, and Amazon lists the finish as matt. WMF gives the appliance dimensions as 61.5 × 30 × 17 cm.
According to the product page, the scope of delivery includes the grill with both plates, a drip tray and a wind and splash guard. The Lono Master does not come with a lid, nor with a stand. The instructions number the components: grill plate left (1a) and right (1b), base (2), drip tray (3), release button (4), temperature dial (5) and windshield (6). The base is the substructure into which the tray and plates are inserted. For the windshield, Amazon’s catalogue gives a height of 6 cm, and for the drip tray stainless steel.
Amazon’s catalogue gives converted dimensions of 40 × 30 × 30 cm. That does not match the 61.5 cm that WMF gives as the largest dimension; we go with the manufacturer.
What WMF leaves open on the product page and in the instructions is collected here:
- a heat-up time until a plate has reached its level
- a weight; Amazon’s catalogue gives a converted 6.8 kg
- a number of people; the product page speaks of grilled dishes “for family and friends”
- country of origin and place of manufacture
- the type of non-stick coating, such as PTFE or ceramic, and the thickness of the plates
- the material of the drip tray and windshield
- an automatic shut-off, a timer or overheating protection
- a minimum distance in centimetres from walls or combustible materials
- whether an extension cable or cable reel is allowed outdoors
In detail: two dials, five levels
On a gas grill, two-zone grilling usually means one burner stays off, the meat lies over it and cooks under the closed lid in the hot air that drifts across from the other side. That does not work on the Lono Master. It has no lid, and the food always lies directly on a plate with its own heating element. Its two zones differ only in temperature. In the instructions WMF gives the obvious example: grill on one plate, keep finished food warm on the other.
The grilling time table in the instructions works with levels from 1 to 5. Keeping warm is at 1 to 3, and grilling is done on 4 and 5. On the dial scale in the drawing, the numbers 2 to 5 appear. WMF does not reveal what temperature lies behind a level, either on the product page or in the instructions. For a steak this matters less in our assessment, because whether it is done is decided by the core temperature, and that is measured by an insertion thermometer even on grills with a degree scale. You cannot, however, follow a recipe calling for 200 °C one to one on the Lono Master. The MEDION in our table further down at least gives a maximum value.
According to the product page, the temperature setting is doubly variable and has LED lighting. The instructions explain the colours: while a plate is heating up, its indicator light glows red, and when the temperature is reached it changes to white.
As soon as the mains plug is in, the indicator lights show the connection to the mains and the appliance starts heating up; there is no switch in between. The instructions add their own “Attention” note: the appliance cannot be switched off at the temperature dials, so pull the mains plug after use. In our assessment, it is best to plug it in only once the drip tray, plates and windshield are in place and the food is ready.
Before putting food on, the instructions say you always preheat, five minutes on the highest level, and then turn it down if needed. The times in the grilling time table are expressly guide values and apply to the pure grilling time without heating up. Beef steak, pork chop and lamb chop are listed there at 8 to 10 minutes, pork schnitzel and minced meat patty at 6 to 8, chicken schnitzel and fish fillet at 4 to 6, each on level 4 to 5. For vegetables it is 4 to 5 minutes on level 5. From plugging in to a finished beef steak, these values bring you to 13 to 15 minutes.
Before the table there are a few grilling tips. You cut the food into slices no thicker than 3 cm, season meat before grilling and salt it only afterwards so that it loses less juice. You prick sausages to avoid fat splashes, and where possible the food comes out of the fridge 30 minutes beforehand. Never cut on the plate. A 4 cm rib-eye is therefore above what WMF envisages for this grill.
What 1,200 W per plate means can be roughly estimated. If the two plates share the 1,400 cm² in equal parts, as the product photo suggests, each square centimetre gets around 1.7 W. According to the Amazon catalogue, the WMF Lono ribbed table grill brings 2,000 W to approx. 1,100 cm², so about 1.8 W. On the Landmann grill trolley it is 3,200 W on 59 × 40.5 cm, around 1.3 W. These values are no more than a rule of thumb. On the Landmann, removable heating elements heat the cast grates above them, whereas on the Lono Master the heating element sits in the plate on which the meat lies, and how hot a surface actually gets depends on the dial and on how much heat wind and cold food draw away.
Can the Lono Master go on the balcony?
According to WMF, yes. The instructions declare the appliance suitable for outdoor use, the product page names indoors and outdoors as places of use, and the page for the set with the stand names kitchen, balcony or terrace. Whether your tenancy agreement and house rules play along is another matter.
According to the product page, the grill is IPx4 certified. In the system of the standard DIN EN 60529 (which applies in Germany), the 4 stands for protection against splashing water from all directions, and the x means that no code number is given for protection against solid foreign objects. Whether the Lono Master may also run in rain is something WMF leaves open. We would only operate it in the dry.
The instructions set two conditions for the power connection. The grill must be connected to a socket with a protective earth contact, and it must be supplied via a residual current device (RCD) with a rated residual operating current of no more than 30 mA. You cannot tell either of these from an outdoor socket by looking. If in doubt, an electrician can clarify it.
How much current flows we work out with the voltage dependence from above. At 230 V the grill converts roughly 2,200 W by calculation and draws just under 10 A. Socket circuits in flats are usually protected with 16 A, which leaves a good 6 A, just under 1,500 W, for everything else on the same circuit. A kettle in a socket on this circuit can then already trip the fuse.
The mains cable is 2 m long according to the scope of delivery on the product page, while the technical data on the same page say 1.9 m. You should place the grill on a level, firm surface near a socket, and according to the instructions you keep sufficient space free around the appliance.
According to the instructions, the windshield has two jobs: in wind it protects the food from cooling too quickly, and it keeps fat splashes away from the working area. It cannot prevent splashing entirely. According to WMF, fat inevitably splashes during grilling, so the table underneath should be protected accordingly. On wooden decking or light stone, in our view a washable mat belongs under the grill.
What tenancy law and house rules allow for grilling on a balcony we have gathered in the guide Grilling on a balcony.
Three alternatives in a data comparison
| Model | The difference | Price | Our rating | Choose this one if |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| WMF Lono Master Grill (this one) | two cast aluminium plates of 1,200 W each, separately adjustable | approx. €118 | 9.0 | you grill in batches for several people |
| MEDION dual-zone table grill MD12027 | also 2,400 W on two plates, up to 240 °C according to Amazon’s information, black housing | approx. €100 | 7.9 | price matters more to you than Cromargan and the matching stand |
| WMF Lono ribbed table grill | one ribbed plate of approx. 27 × 41 cm, 2,000 W, infinitely variable control | approx. €75 | 8.4 | you grill indoors at the dining table and approx. 1,100 cm² is enough for you |
| Landmann electric grill trolley EG-II-590 | grill trolley with lid and lid thermometer, 3,200 W, grates 59 × 40.5 cm | approx. €550 | 9.4 | your food is thicker than 3 cm and you have room for a trolley about 1.2 m wide |
The prices are guide values from our data sheets and change; the ratings are our editorial assessment from the data comparison. The technical details for the MEDION and the Lono ribbed come from the manufacturer texts in Amazon’s catalogue, those for the Landmann from our research for its page.
When the Lono Master fits and when another grill does
In favour of the Lono Master is that you can run two temperatures at the same time. If you grill for a group that does not eat at the same moment, you put finished food on the warming side and carry on grilling next to it. If you never need that, you pay for a split that you do not use.
Then the WMF Lono ribbed table grill from the same company comes into question. Its single plate offers around 300 cm² less area, and according to Amazon the housing is also made of matt Cromargan. Its cable measures only 1 m there, and its Amazon information makes no mention of outdoor use. For the dining table that is enough. If you want to take it to the balcony, read its instructions before buying.
If you want two zones and need neither Cromargan nor the WMF stand, the MEDION MD12027 comes into question. According to the manufacturer texts on Amazon, its two plates are removable, and each has an integrated heating element with its own temperature control. It is protected against splashing water to IPX4, a windshield is included, and Amazon lists it in black. At approx. €90 it is €28 below the Lono Master.
For thicker food than WMF’s grilling tips envisage, such as a whole roast, the Landmann EG-II-590 with its lid comes into question in our comparison. The electric grill trolley is set from 100 to 300 °C in steps of 50 degrees. It needs space, though: its instructions give 121.5 × 57.5 × 116 cm, roughly double the table grill in width and depth.
Stand, set and what does not exist
WMF’s grill accessories include 20 items, and exactly one of them fits the Lono Master, the stand. The grill’s instructions name it with the article number 0415890011. In the WMF shop it is called Lono Grill Standfuß (CMMF 3200002770) and on the same date also cost €129.99 there, with a recommended retail price of €149.00. With the grill on top, the working surface is at a height of 86 cm according to WMF.
The stand measures 43.8 × 75 × 92.7 cm (width × height × length) and weighs 3.387 kg. Its frame is made of Cromargan, plus folding side shelves and a lower shelf made of corrosion-resistant steel. It is assembled with the included Allen key.
The stand’s assembly instructions set limits. You put no more than 2 kg on the side shelves, you do not lean on them or sit on them, and you must not carry the appliance by the shelves. The stand belongs on a level surface and is not suitable as a step ladder.
According to these instructions it is designed for two grills: the WMF Lono Master-Grill (0415280011) and the WMF Lono Tischgrill flach & gerippt (0415340011). The Lono ribbed table grill from our table carries the article number 0415330011 according to Amazon and is not on this list.
In the set with the stand, WMF asked €228.78 on the same day instead of €259.98. The struck-through price is the sum of the two individual prices in the WMF shop; compared with buying them separately, the set saves €31.20 there.
WMF has a cover in its grill accessories only for the Pizzaiolo Pro model, and replacement or interchangeable plates for the Lono Master are not listed there either. According to the warranty statement, you can get accessories, consumables and spare parts that you can replace yourself via wmf.com.
Cleaning, care and safety according to the instructions
Cleaning takes place straight after grilling: the instructions require you to clean all parts immediately after use and remove food residues at once. First you pull the mains plug and let the appliance cool down. Fat and other residues are best removed from the still hand-warm plate with a paper towel. Before you remove the plates, clean the appliance and put it away, it must have cooled down completely.
To remove the plates, first take the windshield out of the holders. Then you press the release button, which sits centrally under the carrying handle on each plate, lift the plate and take it out sideways. You clean plates and drip tray in lukewarm water with washing-up liquid and a washing-up brush. The instructions rule out abrasive cleaners, metal sponges and oven cleaner for both. Grill plates, drip tray and windshield may also go in the dishwasher.
For the base the wording is: “Never immerse the base (2) in water or treat it with water. Only wipe it with a damp cloth and a little washing-up liquid and rub it dry.” In the cleaning table it is approved neither for the dishwasher nor for rinsing under running water.
WMF describes the non-stick coating as scratch-sensitive. It must on no account be treated with sharp or pointed objects, and the grill utensils should be made of wood or plastic. If all you own from the charcoal grill is a stainless steel turner, you need a second one for the Lono Master.
Before you reassemble it, the plates must be completely dry, as must the electrical contacts on the plates and on the base. When grilling, the drip tray is always correctly pushed in, and after removal you put the plates back in correctly. Prefixed with “WARNING”, the instructions also say: charcoal or similar fuels must not be used for this appliance.
Who is it suitable for?
What WMF intends the grill for is set out in the intended use in the instructions. It is intended for households and similar applications; as examples WMF lists staff kitchens in shops, offices and other commercial areas, farm houses, guests in hotels, motels and other residential accommodation, and bed and breakfast establishments. It is not intended for purely commercial use, and it is suitable exclusively for grilling food such as meat, vegetables or fish.
For households with children, the instructions have their own rules. Children aged 8 and over, as well as people with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities or a lack of experience and/or knowledge, may use the appliance if they are supervised or have been instructed in safe use and understand the resulting hazards. Children should be supervised so that they do not play with the appliance. They may clean and maintain it only if they are older than 8 and supervised. Children younger than 8 must be kept away from the appliance and the connecting cable.
At a dining table where children under 8 are eating too, the last requirement is in our view hard to meet. The table grill stands there in the middle of the plates, and its cable runs across to the nearest socket. For that group we consider the Lono Master on the dining table the wrong choice. On the stand at the edge of the terrace, children can more easily be kept away from the appliance and the cable.
