What the Lono ribbed is
Amazon lists the grill as “WMF Lono Tischgrill gerippt, 2000 W, Elektrogrill mit variabler Temperatureinstellung” (ribbed table grill, 2000 W, electric grill with variable temperature setting), and the WMF article number is 0415330011. It is an electric table grill with one heating zone and a fully ribbed plate. According to Amazon, the housing is made of matt Cromargan stainless steel. Cromargan is WMF’s name for rustproof stainless steel; on the history page of aboutwmf.com its introduction is recorded for 1930.
On wmf.com we did not find the 0415330011 on 14 October 2026. The shop search for the number reports no exact results, and of the eleven items in the electric grills category, seven belong to the Lono range: table grill flat & ribbed, table grill ribbed with glass lid, Quadro, Master Grill, Kontaktgrill 2in1 (contact grill), the stand and a set of Master Grill and stand. Whether WMF has delisted the Lono ribbed or is phasing it out is not stated anywhere. We therefore do not call it a discontinued model, and there is also no evidence that the glass-lid version is its successor. On Amazon the grill costs approx. €75 according to our price box, and on 14 October 2026 the page showed only one unit left in stock.
The manual we follow is attached as a PDF to the item’s Amazon page (PDF dated 27 January 2022) and is not on wmf.com. It covers two models: the 0415330011 with the ribbed plate and the 0415340011 with the ribbed and flat plate. Where we reproduce it, we write “according to the manual”. In addition there are the WMF pages of the sister models, the WMF warranty statement and Amazon’s catalogue, all retrieved in October 2026. The Amazon release date of 23 March 2018 is a catalogue date, not a market launch by WMF.
Plate, frame and dial
Amazon’s description speaks of a non-stick cast aluminium plate with an integrated heating element. The plate is fully ribbed, the Lono ribbed has no flat zone, and that is exactly how WMF lists it in its own comparison table on the Amazon page. According to WMF the surface is approx. 27 × 41 cm, so approx. 1,100 cm² (Amazon’s data table calculates 1,107 cm²). That Amazon attributes the heating element to the plate fits poorly with the manual, which permits this plate in the dishwasher. None of our sources says it explicitly, but from the plate’s dishwasher approval we read that the heating sits in the grill base.
The manual lists five components: grill plate (1), grill base (2), drip tray (3), dial (4) and release button (5). You place the plate on the base and press it down until it clicks audibly into place. If it is not seated correctly, the grill does not switch on, according to the manual. The drip tray is pushed into the base and collects dripping fat and meat juices.
Amazon describes the control as a variable, infinitely adjustable temperature setting with LED lighting. On the dial sits an LED ring which, according to the manual, glows red while heating up and white once the desired temperature is reached. The manual itself speaks of levels (keeping warm at 2 to 3, grilling at 4 to 5) and describes no scale; how many levels the dial has remains open, and WMF gives no temperature figure anywhere.
The catalogue photo shows a flat, rectangular appliance: along the long side a silver frame with the WMF logo, above it the black, ribbed plate. At the right end sits a black block with a round dial, and next to the plate a small button, which we assign to the release button from the manual. The photo shows no lid.
Neither the manual nor any WMF page gives a weight. The Amazon page lists two figures: 4.4 kg in the “set includes” field, there together with the dimensions 49.5 × 28.5 × 7.5 cm, and 4.96 kg in the data table, there together with 53.5 × 29.5 × 7.5 cm. We take the smaller dimensions with 4.4 kg to be the appliance and the larger ones with 4.96 kg probably to be the package.
In detail: 2,000 watts on one zone
Amazon gives 2,000 W and one heating element, the manual gives one dial; that is why we speak of one zone. The manual puts the power consumption of the 0415330011 at 1,680 to 2,000 W, at 220 to 240 V and 50 to 60 Hz, protection class I. The housing is therefore tied to the socket’s earth conductor. The manual does not explain the range; our calculation: with a fixed heating resistance, power grows with the square of the voltage, and 2,000 W at 240 V converts to 1,680 W at 220 V. The range therefore matches the 220 to 240 V mains voltage tolerance arithmetically.
The Lono ribbed grills by contact. The heat passes from the plate directly into the food, and from below, because there is no lid. On a ribbed plate the food rests only on the ridges; that is where the stripes form, with air in between. A smooth surface would transfer the heat across the whole area.
If you set power against area: 2,000 W on approx. 1,100 cm² is roughly 1.8 W per cm². According to WMF’s figures, the Master Grill reaches 2,400 W at 28 × 50 cm, so roughly 1.7 W per cm², spread over two separately adjustable plates. The ratio works as a rough guide, but it does not replace a temperature figure.
Preheating, levels and cooking times according to the manual
You plug in the mains plug and the LED ring on the dial glows white. To preheat, you set the dial to the highest level and the ring turns red. After approx. 10 minutes the warm-up phase is over according to the manual, the ring glows white again, and depending on the food you choose a lower setting if necessary. Only then may the food go on the plate.
You divide the food into portions that are not too large, no more than 3 cm thick. Our explanation for this limit, not WMF’s: the heat comes only from below and has to travel through the whole piece, so with thick pieces the underside stays on the hot plate correspondingly long. You season meat before grilling; according to the manual, salting comes only afterwards, so it loses less juice. You prick fatty sausages beforehand so that less fat spatters.
The manual’s table gives grilling time in minutes and grilling level:
- Beef steak: 8 to 10 minutes, level 4 to 5
- Pork escalope: 6 to 8 minutes, level 4 to 5
- Minced-meat patty: 6 to 8 minutes, level 4 to 5
- Pork chop: 8 to 10 minutes, level 4 to 5
- Lamb chop: 8 to 10 minutes, level 4 to 5
- Chicken escalope: 4 to 6 minutes, level 4 to 5
- Fish fillet: 4 to 6 minutes, level 4 to 5
- Vegetables: 4 to 5 minutes, level 5
- Keeping warm: level 2 to 3, no time given
According to the manual the values are only guidelines, depending on the food and your own taste, and they apply without heat-up time. Bratwurst does not appear in the table; the manual mentions sausages only in the text and without times.
May the Lono ribbed go on the balcony?
Not according to the WMF manual: the appliance is intended only for household use indoors. Nothing is said there about balconies or terraces, neither as permission nor as a ban, but indoors is the only place of use WMF names.
Amazon’s product data contradict themselves here. The field for indoor and outdoor use names indoor, while the field with the recommended areas of use lists outdoor and indoor. WMF’s own promotional text on the Amazon page speaks of indoor grilling. For outdoor use, WMF explicitly names IPx4 and indoor and outdoor use for the Master Grill, while Quadro and the glass-lid version are listed for indoor use. The manual of the sister model with glass lid adds that the appliance should not be stored outdoors or in a damp room. We would heed that with the Lono ribbed as well.
Whether your tenancy agreement or house rules allow an electric grill on the balcony is covered in the guide Grilling on a balcony.
Safety and care according to the manual
More than the plate gets hot. The touchable surfaces can become hot while the appliance is switched on and stay hot after switching off, the manual warns. After grilling you switch the appliance off, pull the mains plug and let it cool down completely before you remove plate and drip tray; afterwards you reinsert the plate correctly. The drip tray must always be correctly inserted during grilling. Fat inevitably spatters while grilling, so WMF advises protecting the table. You place the grill on a level, firm surface and keep enough space free all around.
According to the warning notice, charcoal or similar fuels must not be used with this appliance. If the mains cable is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its customer service or a similarly qualified person.
On children and people with limitations, the manual says: children from 8 years of age, as well as people with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities or a lack of experience and knowledge, may use the grill if they are supervised or instructed in its safe use and understand the resulting hazards. Children must not play with it. Children carry out cleaning and user maintenance only if they are older than 8 and supervised; children under 8 stay away from the appliance and the connection cable.
The grill is intended for households and similar applications, for example staff kitchens in shops, offices and other commercial areas, farm houses, clients in hotels, motels and other residential environments, and bed and breakfast establishments. It is not intended for purely commercial use.
Cleaning happens immediately: clean all parts straight after use and remove food residue at once. According to the manual, fat and residue come off best from the still hand-warm plate with a kitchen towel.
Then, with the plug pulled and the appliance cooled down: pressing the release button lifts the plate slightly, and then you take it out upwards. You wash plate and drip tray in lukewarm water with washing-up liquid and a washing-up brush, or put them in the dishwasher. Abrasives, metal sponges and oven cleaner are ruled out. You wipe the grill base only with a damp cloth and rub it dry; according to the cleaning table it must go neither in the dishwasher nor under running water. For storage you reassemble the appliance and place it on a level, dry surface. At the end of its life it belongs at a collection point for electrical and electronic equipment, not in household waste. For conformity, the manual names the directives 2014/35/EU, 2014/30/EU and 2009/125/EU.
Warranty, spare parts and what remains open
The WMF warranty statement (German section) grants a warranty period of 2 years from the date of purchase for material or manufacturing defects, in addition to statutory consumer rights. WMF’s service page confirms this for small electrical appliances and limits the warranty to domestic and private use. According to the statement, not covered are, among other things, misuse, negligence, failure to follow the WMF operating instructions, wrong voltage or frequency, alteration or unauthorised repair, normal wear, mechanical damage and overloading.
Repairs during and after the warranty period are carried out in authorised repair centres which, according to the WMF service page, also offer original accessories and original spare parts. For accessories, consumables and spare parts the end user can replace, the warranty statement refers to wmf.com. Amazon’s data sheet lists a 10-year availability for EU spare parts.
For the Lono ribbed, the following remains open in the manual, WMF pages and Amazon catalogue:
- Minimum distances to walls and combustible materials in centimetres
- Number of people the surface is intended for (WMF writes of family and friends)
- Heat-up time to a specific temperature (the approx. 10 minutes in the manual refer to the colour change of the LED ring)
- Material and temperature limit of the non-stick coating, including the question of PFAS
- Overheating protection or automatic switch-off (all that is documented is that the grill does not start without a correctly inserted plate)
- Power consumption in kWh per grilling session and on standby
- Country of origin and production site
- Spare parts list and price of a replacement grill plate, plus confirmation by WMF of the 10 years of spare part availability
- Whether the plate can be exchanged, for example for a smooth one
- A successor model and the market launch by WMF
- Assignment to Amazon: none of the WMF pages links to the ASIN, we assign it via the model number 0415330011
What else is worth considering?
| Model | The difference | Price | Our rating | Choose this one if |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| WMF Lono ribbed table grill (this one) | 2,000 W, one zone, fully ribbed, intended for indoor use only | approx. €75 | 8.4 | you grill indoors at the table and one zone is enough |
| WMF Lono Master Grill | Two separately adjustable plates, 2 × 1,200 W, IPx4 for indoor and outdoor use according to WMF | approx. €118 | 9.0 | you want to keep warm and grill at the same time or grill outdoors |
| Arendo table grill 2 zones | Two zones with separate thermostats, 2,800 W, up to approx. 250 °C according to the Amazon catalogue | approx. €76 | 7.9 | you want to cook meat and vegetables at two heat levels |
| Landmann EG-II-590 | Electric grill trolley, two heating elements, 3,200 W, 100 to 300 °C per side, surface 59 × 40.5 cm | approx. €550 | 9.4 | you grill outdoors with a large surface and have room for a trolley |
Prices are guide values from our price boxes, and the rating is our editorial assessment. The table is not suitable as a performance comparison, because table appliances and trolleys are different designs with manufacturer figures documented to different degrees.
The WMF Lono Master Grill costs approx. €118, which is €43 more than the Lono ribbed, and the Landmann EG-II-590 at approx. €550 is €475 more. For the Arendo table grill 2 zones the difference is €1. All appliances in the class are in Electric grills compared.
When the Lono ribbed fits, and for whom it does not
First the location decides. According to the manual, the Lono ribbed belongs on a table indoors. If you want to grill outside, compare the Master Grill and the Landmann, not the Lono.
Then the surface. 27 × 41 cm is slightly below an A3 sheet at 29.7 × 42 cm. The manual’s guideline values allow a calculation: two rounds of beef steak need 16 to 20 minutes of grilling time, plus preheating. If you want to serve a larger group at the same time, our assessment favours the Master Grill at 28 × 50 cm.
With one zone you get grilling or keeping warm, never both at once on the same plate. If you want to keep the side dish warm while the meat grills, you need two separately adjustable zones, as the Master Grill and the Arendo have. And if you want a smooth zone next to the ribs, look at the sister model flat & ribbed, which is listed in the WMF shop.
The Lono ribbed is wrong for anyone who wants to grill outdoors, and for anyone who wants to buy an appliance that WMF still offers in its own shop: the Lono ribbed does not appear there on 14 October 2026. If you want to set temperatures in degrees, you are better off with the Landmann, because the Lono ribbed knows only levels and an LED ring.
If you are still torn between electric, gas and charcoal, the Grill Finder will help you sort it out.
