A grill plate for the middle of the table

The BP-2750 has neither a grate nor a lid. It is a heated plate that stands on the dining table, and Tristar describes it as an electric table grill plate for preparing food for family or friends right at the table. We list it in the Electric grills category, alongside teppanyaki plates, contact grills and grill carts.

It costs approx. €37 (Amazon page on 20.10.2026: €36.99).

The product photo shows a black, rectangular plate with a low rim. The left half is smooth, and on the right half ribs run from front to back. Handles protrude at both ends, and at the back right the control dial sits at the cable connection. At the front in the middle, a narrow black part sits under the edge of the plate. Whether that is the fat tray, the picture does not make clear.

Design: two halves on 49 x 27 cm

According to Tristar, the cooking surface measures 49 x 27 cm and is divided into a flat frying side and a ribbed grill side. The smooth half is meant for baking and frying, and the ribbed one produces grill stripes. The data sheet calls it a baking/grill plate combination and gives 6 as the number of people.

The plate is made of metal, and Tristar also lists metal as the main material of the appliance. On top is a ceramic non-stick coating. Heating is 2000 W through a single heating element that lies concealed under the plate. Tristar gives the maximum temperature as 260 °C.

Control is on the cable. The mains cable is 0.8 m long, detachable, and carries the adjustable thermostat with a rotary knob. An indicator light shows whether the appliance is heating, and Tristar also lists an on/off switch.

The parts description in the instructions lists five items: handles, baking plate, fat drain, temperature control knob and heating indicator. Excess cooking fat runs through the fat drain into a removable fat tray during preparation. According to Tristar, the handles are heat-insulated, and there are non-slip feet under the appliance.

Several features are expressly marked No in the data sheet: transparent lid, keep-warm function, interchangeable plates, LCD display, recipe book and cable storage. You can store the plate horizontally or vertically. It is black and, according to the manufacturer, free of bisphenol A.

For the dimensions and weight of the whole appliance, only Amazon’s catalogue is available, converted from inches and pounds: approx. 56.4 x 29.5 x 5.5 cm and approx. 2.2 kg. Amazon has swapped the axes there and lists 56.4 cm as the height. Read as a footprint, the value fits a 49 cm long cooking surface with handles at both ends, but Tristar has not confirmed it.

In detail: one plate, one thermostat, two surfaces

49 times 27 cm is 1323 square centimetres. At 2000 W, that works out to just over 1.5 W for each of them. For comparison, here is a device from our catalogue with a similar surface area: the WMF Lono Master has 2400 W on 50 x 28 cm, so on 1400 square centimetres, which makes just over 1.7 W per square centimetre. The gap is smaller than the wattage figures suggest.

Power density partly determines how quickly a plate recovers when cold food lands on it. Meat from the fridge draws heat out of the surface, and the heating element has to make it up. That follows from physics, not from an experiment on this appliance. If you cover the whole surface at once, you wait longer for it to get back to temperature than if you add food bit by bit.

For the buying decision, the layout matters more. Both halves share the same heating element and the same thermostat. Cooking vegetables gently on the left while searing on the right at the same time is therefore not possible; both sides get the same setting. Whether the halves reach the same heat is unknown. Because the heating element is concealed, you cannot see its layout either. As a general rule for heated plates: if the heating element does not extend into the corners, the edges stay cooler than the surface above it.

The ribs change the contact. On the ribbed half, the food only rests on the ridges. That is where the dark stripes form, the surface in between stays paler, and fat runs into the grooves instead of pooling under the meat. On the smooth half, the food touches the whole surface. In our assessment, fried eggs, pancakes, finely chopped vegetables and prawns belong there, because nothing slips between ridges and liquid batter does not run off.

The thermostat works as it does on almost all table grills: it switches the heating element on as soon as the plate falls below the set value, and off again when it reaches it. From the outside you can see this from the indicator lamp, which according to the instructions goes on and off during cooking. Which temperatures lie on the dial between the lowest position and the maximum temperature is stated neither in the data sheet nor in the instructions.

Do the handles really stay cool?

Less is documented than the Amazon text promises. Tristar writes of handles with heat insulation that are meant to make it possible to hold the grill plate. The Amazon catalogue states, more bluntly, that the handles do not get warm. The instructions at the same time warn that the temperature of accessible surfaces can be high during operation.

We read it like this: the handles are there to be held, the rest of the appliance is not. Even so, we would not push a running plate with hot fat in the tray across the table.

The safety notes in the instructions go well beyond the handles. In full, they are these:

  • If you ignore the safety notes, you cannot hold the manufacturer liable for damage.
  • A damaged mains cable must be replaced by the manufacturer, the customer service or similarly qualified persons.
  • Never move the appliance by pulling on the cable, and make sure the cable does not get tangled.
  • The appliance belongs on a level, stable surface.
  • It must not be left unattended while it is connected to the mains.
  • For household use only and only for the purpose it was made for.
  • Children under 8 years must not use the appliance; children from 8 years and people with limited abilities only under supervision or after instruction.
  • Children must not play with the appliance. The appliance and connecting cable belong out of reach of children under 8 years; the instructions state this sentence twice.
  • Cleaning and maintenance by children only if they are older than 8 and supervised.
  • To protect against electric shock, never immerse the cable, plug or appliance in water or other liquids.
  • The warning quoted above about hot accessible surfaces.
  • Do not operate with an external timer or a separate remote control system.
  • Only use the matching plug.

At a dining table with small children, the critical point is the cable. It is short, so the socket must be close to the table, and that is exactly where nobody must catch a foot.

Seasoning, grilling, cleaning: what the instructions say

Before first use, Tristar requires these steps: unpack the appliance and accessories, and remove stickers, protective film and plastic. Wipe all removable parts with a damp cloth, never with abrasives. Place a fat tray under the fat drain and plug the supplied thermostat into the connector. Check that the mains voltage matches the local one shown on the appliance. Then turn the thermostat clockwise to the highest setting and let the plate heat up for at least 5 minutes without food. The instructions call a slight smell on first switch-on normal and recommend adequate ventilation.

Two more sentences cover placement. Tristar recommends a heat-resistant mat between the table and the appliance so that no burn marks appear on the table or tablecloth, and the appliance should stand in a well-ventilated place.

When grilling itself, you first preheat on the highest setting for a few minutes until the temperature indicator goes out. Then the heating plate must be rubbed with cooking oil; this is stated there as a must, not as a tip. You set the temperature on the thermostat knob. Sharp objects are forbidden on the plate because they can damage the non-stick coating. Spatulas made of wood or heat-resistant plastic are therefore the obvious choice. If something sticks despite the oil, it is usually down to preheating for too short a time or turning too early; more on this in our guide Food sticks to the grate.

The cleaning section has seven points, and two of them contradict each other:

  • Unplug the appliance before cleaning and wait until it has cooled down.
  • Never pour cold water onto the hot plate, because the appliance may be damaged and hot water may splash.
  • Wipe the inside and the edges with a paper towel or soft cloth.
  • Clean with a damp cloth, never with harsh or abrasive cleaners, scouring pads or steel wool.
  • Remove the fat tray after every use, empty it and wash it in warm soapy water.
  • Once more the ban on immersion from the safety notes, this time for the appliance alone, plus: “The appliance is not dishwasher safe.”
  • “The table grill is dishwasher safe.” Tristar nevertheless recommends hand washing because it benefits the service life.

The product page, in turn, says the accessories are dishwasher safe and the appliance can be easily dismantled for cleaning. By accessories, presumably the fat tray is meant. We would not put the plate with the built-in heating element in the dishwasher, because the same section forbids immersing it in water, and certainly not the thermostat with its cable.

Spare parts, warranty, disposal

Tristar sells two wear parts separately. The adjustable thermostat with the number XX-2750003 was available in the Tristar shop for €13.95, and the removable fat tray XX-2750069 for €7.95. Because the thermostat sits on the detachable cable, you replace it as a whole part if it fails.

On its service page, Tristar refers to the statutory warranty terms (in Germany, the statutory warranty rights); Tristar does not state a guarantee period in years. Tristar describes the return route like this: the defective appliance goes back to the shop where you bought it. After receipt, Tristar endeavours to send it back within 10 working days.

The declaration of conformity dated 3 June 2025 names the EU EMC Directive, the Low Voltage Directive, RoHS and the Ecodesign Directive, and among the standards EN 60335-1 and EN 60335-2-9, among others. The second is the safety standard for grills, toasters and similar portable cooking appliances. At the end of its life, according to the instructions, the BP-2750 does not belong in household waste but at a collection point for electrical appliances.

What Tristar does not state

According to our research, these points remain open: the temperature range below 260 °C and the number of thermostat settings. The data sheet does contain a field “Speed settings: 5”, which makes no sense for a grill plate; whether it refers to control settings is not clear. Also missing are a heat-up time (the instructions only mention at least 5 minutes for the first seasoning and a few minutes of preheating), the division of the surface in centimetres, the material of the housing, handles, feet and fat tray, the type of ceramic coating including any statement on PFAS, the capacity of the fat tray, minimum distances from walls, a rule for outdoor use, a guarantee period in years, the country of manufacture, the market year and the power consumption. It is also unclear whether the fat tray is supplied: the delivery contents on Tristar’s page are only the grill plate and operating instructions, the instructions say “Place a fat tray”, and the Amazon title mentions a fat collection container.

Three alternatives from our catalogue

Model The difference Price Our rating Choose this one if

The prices come from our price boxes and change constantly. The rating is our editorial assessment from the data comparison; we measured nothing on any of the four appliances.

When this plate, when another

Grill stripes do not matter to you? Then there is little in favour of the divided surface. The Russell Hobbs Fiesta costs approx. €70, the BP-2750 approx. €37. In return, it has a fully smooth plate. At 1125 square centimetres it is somewhat smaller than the BP-2750, but for egg, pancakes and vegetables you use the whole surface instead of just one half.

If you want two temperatures at the table at once, the Tristar is ruled out. The WMF Lono Master has two separately adjustable zones and costs approx. €117.99, against approx. €37 for the BP-2750. For evenings when meat is seared and sides should only stay warm, we would pay the extra.

The Landmann EG-II-590 is a different class of appliance: a grill cart with a lid, at which you grill standing outdoors. It costs approx. €550 and only makes sense if the electric plate is really meant to replace a garden grill.

We would choose the BP-2750 if four to six of you sit at the dining table, want meat with stripes and vegetables or egg on the same plate, and have a socket close to the table. In our rating it comes in at 7.8, behind all three alternatives. That is down to the missing information on temperature settings and delivery contents and to the single control zone, not to a documented defect.

It is the wrong choice for anyone who mainly wants to grill outdoors. The instructions only cover household use in a well-ventilated place, and there is no approval for a balcony or terrace. What house rules usually regulate for grilling on a balcony is covered in our guide Grilling on a balcony. And if you are still torn between a table grill, a contact grill and a grill cart, narrow down the choice with the Grill Finder.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about Tristar Tischgrill BP-2750

Short, clear answers about buying, using and caring for Tristar Tischgrill BP-2750.

How much electricity does the BP-2750 use in an hour?

At most 2 kWh, because the heating element cannot draw more than its rated power. The plate only reaches this value if it heats without a break for a full hour, for example when preheating on the highest setting. Once the set temperature is reached, the thermostat switches off from time to time and consumption drops. For a rough cost estimate, take twice your price per kWh as the upper limit.

Can the plate run on the same circuit as the kettle?

Better not at the same time. At 2000 W the plate draws around 8.7 A at 230 V, and a typical household circuit is fused at 16 A. Add a 2000 W kettle and together they come to just over 17 A, so the fuse may trip. If you need an extension cable, it should be rated for at least 16 A, and you should unwind a cable reel completely, because a coiled cable heats up under continuous load.

How much space does each person get when six people sit at the table?

A little over 220 square centimetres, roughly a square with 15 cm sides. That is what is left when you divide the cooking surface by the six people Tristar designs the plate for. If the smooth and ribbed halves are the same size, each person has around 110 square centimetres of smooth surface for egg or pancakes. If all six want to put a piece of meat and vegetables on at the same time, we would grill in two rounds.

What sets the BP-2750 apart from the smaller Tristar plates?

Mainly the surface area. According to Tristar, the BP-2780, BP-2781, BP-2785 and BP-2786 each have a 37 x 25 cm cooking surface and are intended for 4 people, also with 2000 W. Spread over 925 square centimetres, that works out to around 2.2 W per square centimetre. The small models therefore have more power per area, but almost 400 square centimetres less room for food.

Does Tristar make a longer plate for more guests?

Yes, two. The BP-2753AH has a 90 x 23 cm cooking surface and 2000 W and, according to Tristar, is designed for 8 people; the BP-2755 measures 70 x 23 cm at 1800 W. Both only go up to 240 °C, which is 20 degrees less than the BP-2750. Tristar also lists the BP-2752AH, whose key data matches the BP-2750: same surface, same power, same maximum temperature.

Can I use the BP-2750 on a balcony or in the garden?

The instructions neither expressly allow it nor forbid it. They limit the appliance to household use, and the data sheet answers the question of whether it is suitable for camping with a no. We did not find a protection rating against splashing water, so as a rule the plate does not belong in the rain. Whether an electric grill is allowed on your balcony is governed by your tenancy agreement and house rules.

Does the plug fit on holiday in Switzerland or Great Britain?

Not without an adapter. Tristar specifies plug type F, that is, Schuko to CEE 7/4, as is usual in Germany and Austria. It does not fit British or Swiss sockets. The voltage would not be a problem there, because the instructions state 220 to 240 V at 50 or 60 Hz. In North America, with around 120 V, the heating element would only reach about a quarter of its output.

Why does Amazon name Smartwares as the manufacturer?

The Amazon manufacturer field says Smartwares, while the declaration of conformity names both companies. It lists Tristar Europe B.V., Swaardvenstraat 65, 5048 AV Tilburg in the Netherlands as the manufacturer and Smartwares Europe as the EU authorised representative. We have not researched how the two companies are linked in corporate terms. To match the Amazon listing to the BP-2750, we rely on the Amazon title and the model information in the catalogue.
