What the PG 8596 is
The Severin PG 8596 is an electric table grill with a stand. Severin lists it in its eBBQ Grills range as a “table grill with aluminium grill plate and stand” and describes it as an appliance for garden and balcony that runs on a table or freestanding. The manufacturer is based in Sundern in the Sauerland region; Anton Severin founded the company in 1892 as a smithy.
Amazon calls the frame a “Standfuß” (stand). The instructions speak of a stand base with four legs and a storage rack, and that is exactly what the catalogue photo shows: a rectangular trough on four long, thin legs, a perforated rack beneath it, and the dial with indicator light at the front.
The instructions apply jointly to models PG 008593, 008594, 008595 and 008596. Depending on the version, the appliance has a stainless steel grill rack or an aluminium grill plate, with or without a stand base. The exploded diagram assigns the frame to numbers 008594 and 008596, so the PG 8596 is the variant with aluminium plate and frame.
At Amazon it is listed at approx. €62 according to our price box. We did not have the appliance in our hands and did not grill anything on it. This text compares documents: the product page on severin.com (retrieved on 16.10.2026), the data sheet (dated 18.03.2026), the instructions (footer 10/25), the warranty statement and the Amazon catalogue. There is also a safety sheet that is linked on the product page but is titled PG 8556; we quote it only as a general note from the manufacturer. Where sources contradict each other, we give both values and say which one we follow.
Frame, dimensions and weight
According to the instructions, assembly consists of plugging, clicking into place and inserting. You plug the four lower and upper leg sections together until they click, place the housing upside down on a level surface, push the legs into the round sockets until they click again, turn the base over and insert the storage rack. Its latching hooks must click into the openings in the legs. Then you check that it stands securely, and only then do the water tray and the remaining parts go in. No tools are mentioned in these steps.
The storage rack may carry 4 kg at most. The grill has no side tables; the rack under the trough serves as the shelf.
The data sheet gives 87.5 × 52.1 × 39 cm (H × W × D), meaning the appliance with frame. The net weight is 4.6 kg, 5.7 kg with packaging. The Amazon catalogue, by contrast, lists 2.2 kg, plus 33 × 42 × 9 cm, two main burners and “cast iron plate and trolley” in the scope of delivery. That fits neither the data sheet nor an electric grill with an aluminium plate, so we do not use these fields.
The colour is black, and the data sheet lists plastic as the material, without assigning it to individual parts. Severin advertises a “solid stand frame”. According to the product page the grill has non-slip rubber feet.
The power cable is 100 cm long according to the data sheet (product page: 1000 mm). The detail point in the Amazon listing says 140 cm; we follow the manufacturer.
In detail: one plate, one dial, one water tray
There is talk of two zones, at Amazon as well as in our page heading. What is meant is two surfaces on one plate. The data sheet describes one grilling surface with a smooth and a ribbed side, the technical list on the product page only mentions “ribbed grill plate”, and the Amazon entry recommends the combination for meat with grill marks or for vegetables. According to the instructions the appliance has one heating element and one dial; separate heating zones do not appear there. Both surfaces therefore run on the same dial setting. That is our inference from the instructions; Severin does not word it that way.
The plate is made of die-cast aluminium, and Severin credits it with even heat distribution. According to the product page the dial is stepless. In the instructions its positions are marked with the words OFF, MIN and MAX, with no degree values. According to the data sheet the range runs from 40 to 220 °C, plus an adjustable thermostat. The indicator light is on while heating up; during operation the heating element cycles, and the light goes on and off. None of the documents says which dial setting means how many degrees, and none lists a display of the actual temperature.
For heating up, the product page states 4 minutes 30 seconds, without saying what it heats up to. The instructions advise letting it heat for about 10 minutes after setting the dial and only then putting the food on. The description text in the Amazon entry differs: PFAS-free ceramic coating, temperatures up to 250 °C, around 8 minutes of heat-up time. The same details are printed on the product photo, while the comparison table in the same Amazon entry again lists die-cast aluminium and 40 to 220 °C. The data sheet and the product page on severin.com say die-cast aluminium, 40 to 220 °C and 4:30 minutes, and we rely on those. For which version the Amazon details apply cannot be determined from the sources.
The appliance includes a water tray. Water goes in before every use, and only then do you plug in the mains plug. According to the instructions, fatty food can ignite; the water cools the tray, reduces smoke and makes cleaning easier. When assembling, the heating element with its connection box sits in the water tray: first the tray into the housing, then the heating element into it, then the plate on top. A safety microswitch prevents operation if the connection box is not seated correctly in the water tray. You watch the water level while grilling and top up evaporated water in good time.
There is hardly any more equipment. According to the product page the grill has no removable lid, no BoostZone, no height-adjustable rack and no cordless operation, and according to the data sheet no automatic shut-off. Because of the missing lid and the single heating element, Severin does not describe indirect grilling either. The product page lists “Safe-Touch: yes”, while the instructions warn at the same time that the windshield, grill rack and heating element can be very hot during and after use.
Can the PG 8596 go on the balcony and in the kitchen?
Yes, the manufacturer names the PG 8596 for indoors and outdoors. Outdoors only when protected from the weather, according to the safety sheet. According to the instructions it must not stand directly against a wall or in a corner and runs through a residual current device (RCD, 30 mA at most). Indoors, the windshield stays off.
The weather note in the safety sheet reads: “Use only when protected from the elements.” That points to a covered balcony or another weather-protected spot, not to use in the rain, which is how we read it.
For setting up, the instructions require a level, heat-resistant surface that is not sensitive to splashes, because splashes are unavoidable with fatty food. Easily flammable objects should be removed from the vicinity. A minimum distance in centimetres is missing, so with a house wall or balustrade you decide for yourself. Whether your balcony floor tolerates grease splashes is also yours to judge.
The instructions require the RCD because the appliance is also suitable for outdoor use, along with a correctly installed earthed socket whose voltage matches the rating plate. If the power cable does not reach the socket, the following applies to a cable reel or extension cable: it causes a loss of power, must be fully unwound because it may otherwise heat up unacceptably, and must be suitable for the power on the rating plate and for outdoor use. The cable is laid so that nobody trips over it and it does not touch hot parts.
The PG 8596 is a purely electric appliance. According to the instructions, charcoal or similar fuels must not be put in, and there is no gas connection. What your tenancy agreement and house rules say about electric grills is not decided by the manufacturer; the guide Grilling on a balcony summarises the legal situation.
For the kitchen, the product page lists indoor use as yes and gives low smoke as the reason; Severin gives no measured value for this. Indoors the windshield must not be fitted; outdoors you plug it onto the frame. During the first heat-up, about 10 minutes without food on the highest setting so that the factory smell fades, slight smoke is possible. In closed rooms you then ventilate through a window or balcony door, or place the appliance under an extractor hood.
Safety and care according to the instructions
The instructions contain more safety notes than there is room for here; this is a selection for ongoing use. You operate the grill only under supervision. It is not intended for use with an external timer or a separate remote control system. Before use you check the appliance and accessories for defects; after a fall, damage that is not visible from outside may be present, and in that case you do not put it into operation. The safety sheet forbids moving the appliance while it is running, and the instructions put it this way: never move it while it is in operation and the storage rack is loaded. Before you move, clean, cover or store it, it must have cooled down completely. You pull the mains plug before every filling with water, after every use, if a fault occurs during operation and before every cleaning. The safety sheet adds: if there is a smell of scorching or anything else unusual, pull the plug immediately.
You clean the grill after every use. Residues of water, fat and spices can damage the material of the water tray, and the warranty claim lapses if the water tray is damaged through lack of cleaning; the instructions have this sentence in bold. Grill plate, windshield and water tray go into the washing-up water, soaked if necessary, the water tray only briefly. You take off the heating element with its connection box and wipe it only with a slightly damp cloth; like the connection cable, it must not be treated with liquids or immersed. You wipe the remaining parts with a damp cloth and dry them. Metal sponges and abrasive cleaners are off limits.
On the dishwasher, the documents contradict each other. According to the instructions, no parts may be cleaned in the dishwasher, the only exception being the version with the stainless steel grill rack, which is not the PG 8596. The product page, on the other hand, lists “dishwasher-safe individual parts: yes”. We follow the instructions and expect hand cleaning.
When the grill is not in use, you take off the heating element with its connection box and store it in a dry indoor space. According to the instructions, the remaining parts do not belong outdoors or in open places where the weather could affect them.
Warranty, spare parts and what Severin does not state
Severin gives a voluntary warranty of two years from receipt of the appliance. It does not replace the statutory rights in case of defects, which are directed at the seller. It applies to new goods with an article number from PG 008593 to 008596, not to used appliances or ones repaired or refurbished by third parties. If there is a defect at handover, Severin remedies it free of charge within a reasonable period at its own choice or supplies a new, defect-free appliance. The statement says explicitly that it is not a durability guarantee; Severin does not cover transport, removal and installation costs.
According to the statement, the following are not warranty cases: incorrect set-up or installation (for example ignoring the safety rules or the instructions), use contrary to the intended purpose, external influences (transport damage, impact, knocks, weather), power and voltage fluctuations, ignoring the care and cleaning requirements, and normal wear. Our reading, not information from Severin: anyone who leaves the grill outside over winter collides with the storage notes and the exclusion for weather influences.
On service, two statements stand side by side. According to the product page, the repair service is not available for this model, while the instructions require repairs and replacement of the connection cable to be done only by qualified personnel and refer to customer service in case of repair. According to the instructions, you order spare parts and accessories from the Service Centre or spare parts shop on severin.com. The product page confirms the take-back of electrical appliances.
Follow-up costs: gas and charcoal are not needed, which leaves electricity and water. For ecodesign details under EU Regulation 2023/826, the instructions refer to Severin’s ecodesign page. The manufacturer lists covers in its grilling accessories range as ZB 8122 SENOA and ZB 8127 SEVO GT; no page assigns either of them to the PG 8596.
Also not stated in the documents for the PG 8596:
- Grilling surface in cm², split between the smooth and ribbed part, recommended number of people
- Power consumption in kWh, protection rating or rain resistance, noise levels, approval marks beyond the CE marking
- Working height of the grilling surface, stability in wind, load capacity of the frame beyond the 4 kg of the storage rack
- Meaning of “Safe-Touch: yes” on the product page
- Scope of delivery as a list, including whether accessories such as a turner are included
- Part numbers and prices of spare parts specifically for the PG 8596
- Country of manufacture of the PG 8596 (Severin names the plant in Shenzhen in general, and the Amazon catalogue lists China) and market launch
- Additional conditions if a marketplace seller sells at Amazon (the warranty statement names the seller and customer service as routes)
What else is worth considering?
| Model | The difference | Price | Our rating | Choose this if |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Severin PG 8596 (this one) | Aluminium plate 39 × 23 cm, stand with storage rack, 4.6 kg | approx. €62 | 8.1 | you want to grill indoors and outdoors and have no free table |
| Severin PG 8595 | Same plate, no stand, 2.6 kg according to the manufacturer | approx. €49 | 7.7 | you already have a table with a socket within reach |
| Severin PG 8541 | Freestanding grill with removable metal hood, according to the manufacturer only allowed outdoors | approx. €98.99 | 8.4 | you only grill outdoors and want to work with the hood closed |
| Landmann EG-II-590 | Two separately controllable zones, 3,200 W, grill trolley | approx. €550 | 9.4 | you regularly grill for five or six people and have a dedicated circuit |
Prices are guide values from our price boxes, and the rating is our editorial assessment. The table is not suitable as a performance comparison: plate, hood and trolley are different designs, and for the PG 8596 there is neither an area in cm² nor any statement on searing performance. All appliances in this class are in the overview of electric and table grills.
When the PG 8596 fits, and when another one does
On surface area, only the 39 × 23 cm that the manufacturer states count. According to the manufacturer the Landmann EG-II-590 has 59 × 40.5 cm, so its edges are 20 and 17.5 cm longer. If you regularly sit down with five or six people, you will plan on several rounds with the Severin; that is our assessment, not a manufacturer statement. At approx. €550, the Landmann costs €488 more than the PG 8596 at approx. €62. It is also a trolley measuring 121.5 × 57.5 × 116 cm, which according to the manufacturer belongs on a 16 A circuit with RCD protection. If you have neither the space nor a dedicated circuit, you are better served by the Severin.
For searing, the numbers only help halfway. Severin gives 220 °C as the upper limit and says nothing about searing performance, while the Landmann states 100 to 300 °C. A higher upper limit alone does not prove stronger searing: cold food draws heat from the plate, and how quickly it recovers depends on the power, mass and material of the plate. If you have steaks with a crust in mind, you need a figure that the manufacturer of the PG 8596 does not give.
Whether you need the stand depends on your spot. The PG 8595 has the same plate, weighs 2.6 instead of 4.6 kg according to the manufacturer and, at approx. €49, costs €13 less. If you already have a table with a socket, you save these €13. The PG 8541 with hood has 195 cm of cable according to the manufacturer, almost twice as much as the PG 8596, and at approx. €99 costs around €37 more.
If you want the plate to go in the dishwasher, you need a different version: at Severin that is the PG 8594, which combines a stand and a stainless steel grill rack. If you are still torn between electric, gas and charcoal, the grill finder helps you sort it out.
Who is it suitable for?
The PG 8596 is intended for household use. The instructions name as intended use household use and similar applications: staff kitchens in shops, offices and other work environments, farm properties, guests in hotels, motels and similar accommodation, and bed and breakfasts. The safety sheet restricts the appliance to heating and grilling food; other uses are considered misuse.
According to the instructions, children from 8 years and people with reduced physical, sensory or mental abilities or a lack of experience may use the grill only if they are supervised or instructed and understand the dangers. Children under 8 keep away from the appliance and the connection cable, children must not play with the appliance, and they must not carry out cleaning and user maintenance without supervision. Packaging material also stays away from children, among other reasons because of the danger of suffocation.
The PG 8596 is wrong for two groups. The first: anyone who wants to leave the grill running and do something else meanwhile, because it has no automatic shut-off and may only run under supervision. The second: anyone looking for an appliance with a secured repair service, because according to the product page it is not available for the PG 8596.
If you have a socket with residual current protection within reach, a weather-protected spot and a dry place indoors for the heating element and connection box, the PG 8596 fits your set-up.
