Four tools without a bag
At Burnhard the set is called “Grillbesteck Edelstahl 4-tlg.” and consists of grill tongs, a grill brush with a replaceable brush head, a grill spatula and a grill fork. That is what the contents list on the manufacturer’s page says. A bag is not listed there.
Burnhard is a GmbH from Düsseldorf and sells the set in its own shop for approx. €49.90 including VAT (as of September 2026). Spread over four pieces, that is approx. €12.48 per piece, a calculation of ours. According to a footnote on the product page, a time-limited promotion is also running: with the code BLACK you get 27 percent off, from 16.10.2026 to 30.11.2026. After that the full price applies again.
In the product image the four pieces lie side by side. The heads are silver, the handles black, and they carry several round fixing points (whether rivets or screws, the image leaves open).
The tool set has nothing to do with gas, charcoal or pellets; it is a hand tool and is not tied to any type of grill. Burnhard also does not restrict its use to one type of grill on the product page. What matters are the questions we go through below: material, care, number of pieces and price.
Tongs, spatula and fork: what each piece can do
The tongs and the spatula are the longest pieces at approx. 46.5 cm each. The fork measures approx. 46.0 cm, the brush approx. 45.5 cm. Between the shortest and the longest piece there is therefore one centimetre.
Burnhard has the most to say about the tongs. They have a magnetic lock and, according to the manufacturer’s page, can be operated with one hand. In the product image the lock sits at the top of the handle. The gripping surfaces are wide, one side smooth, the other serrated. Amazon’s product text assigns them like this: the smooth side slides under the steak, the serrated one holds fish and vegetables. That is a marketing claim that fits the design, nothing more.
Technically, the split is explained by friction. Teeth bite into the surface of the food, so vegetables slip less. With a soft fish fillet, on the other hand, they press in, and a smooth edge is gentler there. We would therefore put fish on the spatula rather than in the serrated side of the tongs; that is an assessment based on the design, not the result of our own trials.
The spatula has three sharpened sides. In the image the blade is wide and the neck angled, like a classic turner. The neck sits on one of the four sides; so the free edges on the left, right and front are sharpened. A sharpened edge slides under flat food more easily than a blunt one. But it also bites into coatings more readily; more on that in the FAQ.
The fork has two tines in the image. Burnhard writes nothing specific about it. If you dislike piercing meat, use the tongs or the spatula for turning and leave the fork for holding things in place.
As a general rule when grilling: a tool that has touched raw meat must not touch cooked food without being cleaned. With four pieces you can separate that. We would use the tongs and fork for raw food and the spatula for finished food. Washing tongs with detergent between two rounds is awkward at the grill, and the set has only one piece of each kind.
The brush with the replaceable head
The brush works against hot grates, so in our assessment its head is the part of the set most likely to need replacing. Burnhard explicitly calls it replaceable. In the image the head is a flat, rectangular block with the bristles standing in a row on its front edge.
For metal bristles, if they are metal, the general rule applies: individual bristles can come loose and stick to the grate. If you use a wire brush, check the grate afterwards and replace the head as soon as bristles are missing or break off. How best to brush a grate after grilling is covered in the guide Cleaning a gas grill.
A replaceable head saves material compared with a complete brush, but only if a replacement is available and does not cost a multiple of the set price. Both are open, as the list below shows.
ABS handles, brushed stainless steel and a good 46 centimetres of distance
According to Burnhard, the handles are made of ABS plastic and the metal parts of brushed stainless steel. The Amazon title says the same: stainless steel, magnetic lock, ABS handles. The Amazon text additionally says the material is food safe and odour- and taste-neutral. That is a retailer claim without proof, which we only repeat.
Brushed means the surface has been ground in one direction. As a result it is matt rather than mirror-like, and fine scratches are less noticeable than on a high-gloss finish. The surface says nothing about rust resistance, which depends on the alloy. Which grade Burnhard uses is listed below.
ABS is a thermoplastic, and thermoplastics soften when heated. A temperature limit for these handles is missing on the manufacturer’s page. For a tool that works over an open fire, that is not a minor matter. As long as no approval exists, we would not put the tongs down on the grate or right next to the flame.
Stainless steel conducts heat, though less well than aluminium or copper. With a length of a good 46 centimetres, your hand sits some way from the grate, and the plastic sits exactly where it grips. Whether that is enough when the tongs hang in the grill for minutes depends on the grill. The length does not replace a grill glove: in our assessment, anyone reaching over embers has one at hand, no matter how long the handle is.
Does the set belong in the dishwasher?
No, Burnhard specifies hand washing. The wording on the product page: “Clean by hand with detergent and water.” Afterwards the set is to be dried thoroughly. Burnhard does not mention the dishwasher.
The drying is part of the manufacturer’s instructions, it is not an addition of ours. Why is not stated there. Our guess: water stays at the fixing points of the handles, where plastic meets metal. That is not proven. A dishwasher also exposes plastic to heat and detergent, and for the ABS handles there is no temperature figure that would speak for or against it.
So after grilling, the brush belongs in the sink and not in the dishwasher basket.
What Burnhard does not state
Our sources are the Burnhard product page, which we read in October 2026, and the Amazon catalogue entry. We did not find an instruction manual or a data sheet, and the set was never in our hands. The following therefore remains open:
- the weight of the individual pieces (the Amazon catalogue lists 2.2 pounds, approx. 1 kg, presumably the shipping weight of the parcel)
- stainless steel grade and material thickness
- the maximum heat resistance of the ABS handles
- the bristle material and the price of a replacement head
- the holding force of the magnetic lock
- the width of the spatula surface
- origin and country of manufacture
The dimensions in the Amazon catalogue (0.39 inches) are clearly placeholders. Our lengths come from the manufacturer’s page.
What else is worth considering?
| Model | The difference | Price | Our score | Choose this one if |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Burnhard Grillbesteck Edelstahl 4-tlg. (this one) | 4 pieces with brush, ABS handles, hand wash according to the manufacturer | approx. €49.90 | 8.1 | you want all four tools in one box and do not like wood |
| Burnhard Grillbesteck Akazienholz 4-tlg. | Also 4 pieces, acacia wood instead of ABS, €15 cheaper | approx. €31.41 | 8.3 | you like wooden handles and want to spend less |
| Rösle BBQ Premium 3-tlg. | 3 instead of 4 pieces, €3.90 cheaper | approx. €46 | 8.9 | three pieces are enough for you and you go by the highest score |
| Weber Precision Grillbesteck 3-tlg. | 3 instead of 4 pieces, €11.01 cheaper | approx. €38.89 | 8.7 | you can manage with three pieces and want to pay the least |
The prices come from our price box as of September 2026 and change. The score is an editorial assessment and not a measured value. It also does not say which pieces are in the sibling sets: from them we only used price and score. In this round the Burnhard set is the most expensive and has the lowest score. The grill accessories comparison shows all the accessory models side by side.
When this set, when another
First the number of pieces counts. With four pieces the set covers gripping, turning, holding and cleaning. The two 3-piece sets in the table cost between approx. €4 and approx. €11 less. Which tool is missing from each, we have not checked; if you already own a brush or a spatula, you can look that up.
Then the money. On top of approx. €49.90, Burnhard adds €6.99 shipping. With the code BLACK, the set moves close in price to the acacia wood set (approx. €34.90 in the Burnhard shop), which also has four pieces. Without the code, the gap in the Burnhard shop is €15.00. Anyone buying during the promotion period is therefore comparing something different from someone ordering in December. Calculated per piece, the Burnhard set costs approx. €12.48, the acacia wood set approx. €8.73 and the Weber set approx. €12.96. The calculation counts pieces and not usefulness: one piece is not the same as another.
The handle material separates the two Burnhard sets: ABS in this one, acacia wood in the other. How to care for the wooden set, we have not examined here. Read the care instructions there yourself before you decide on material.
If you already have a brush with a fixed head, you pay in this set for a piece you do not need. Then it is worth looking at a set with three pieces. If you do not own any tools yet, buying from one box saves you gathering them, and the brush head can be changed when the bristles are worn.
We would choose this set if you want all four tools in one step, wash by hand and put the tools away after grilling instead of leaving them lying on the grate. The basics of what a grill needs in the way of accessories are covered in the guide Grill accessories essentials.
Who is it suitable for?
For buyers who are putting together accessories for the first time alongside a new grill and want all four basic tools in one box.
It is wrong for anyone who puts their tools in the dishwasher, because no approval exists. It is also wrong for anyone looking for a set for transport, because the pieces have no common cover. And for anyone who often leaves the tools lying on the grate for long periods, as long as the heat resistance of the handles remains open. An overview of further tools, brushes and thermometers is given by the category Grill accessories.
