The Rösle BBQ Premium set 3-piece is not a barbecue tool set in the classic sense. The pack contains tongs, grill gloves and a grate brush, so only one tool that moves food. In our grill accessories category it sits next to cutlery-style sets, with which it shares mainly these tongs.
We have not worn or used the set. What is written here comes from Rösle’s product pages for the set and the three individual parts, from the instructions for use that Rösle publishes for the Premium grill gloves as an individual item, from Rösle’s service FAQ and from the Amazon catalogue. Where we calculate or infer something ourselves, we say so.
What is in the pack, and where the data sheet falls short
Rösle’s set page gets by with four sentences: a list of the three parts and one sentence each on the tongs, gloves and brush. The tongs are intended there for turning meat, sausages and vegetables, and the brush has three rows of stainless steel bristles. Rösle calls the gloves “a must when handling charcoal, a chimney starter and when transporting hot grill accessories”. The title and manufacturer text in the Amazon catalogue list the same three parts, and the gloves are in the plural in both sources. In the product photo there are two, one with the palm facing up, on which grey silicone honeycombs sit.
The set’s data sheet gives only “18/10 stainless steel” as the material. That is correct for the tongs. According to its individual page, the brush is made of 18/0 stainless steel and has a plastic handle, which the Amazon text describes as polypropylene. The gloves are made of aramid fibres. The two steel grades differ by more than a digit: 18/10 stands for around 18 percent chromium and 10 percent nickel, 18/0 for chromium steel with practically no nickel. Such steel is magnetic and less resistant to corrosion. For a brush that hangs dry after grilling, in our assessment this matters little.
The 49 x 21 x 8.5 cm appear twice in the data sheet, as the dimensions of the set and as the packaging size. On weight, the sources differ. Rösle gives 1.4 kg for the set, the Amazon catalogue around 1.12 kg. The data sheets of the three individual items add up to 1.155 kg: tongs 0.34 kg, gloves 0.28 kg, brush 0.535 kg.
The Premium Barbecue tongs
Rösle gives the tongs an overall length of 44 cm. That puts them in the range of 40 to 45 cm that our guide to grill accessories essentials recommends for most grills. The material is 18/10 stainless steel, with a matt finish according to the Amazon text.
The two heads are built differently. With the upper one you can also scoop smaller side dishes, according to Rösle, and the lower one has slots through which fat drains. For the tongs as a whole, Rösle describes on the individual page a large turning surface, expressly also for fish.
They are opened and closed with one hand. Rösle calls the mechanism an “intelligent automatic locking system” and highlights the space-saving storage; in the Amazon text it is called a “patented RÖSLE locking system”. In the photo there is an eyelet at the end of the handle.
We still would not turn a thin fish fillet with the tongs. They grip the piece from two sides and squeeze it in the process, whereas a flat, front-bevelled slice only slides underneath. The set has no tool for that job.
In detail: what the code 43xxxx says about the gloves
Rösle publishes more about the gloves than about any other part of the set. The instructions for use and care for the Premium grill gloves (as of 03/2025) reveal which standards were used for testing: EN 420 for general requirements, EN 407 for thermal risks and EN 388 for mechanical risks (these are European standards, so they apply in the EU). The outer material is 100 percent meta-aramid fibres. The meta-aramid family also includes Nomex, a synthetic fibre that does not melt in great heat but chars.
The EN 407 code is 43xxxx. Each of the six positions stands for a risk, in this order: burning behaviour, contact heat, convective heat, radiant heat, small splashes and large quantities of molten metal. According to the instructions, an x means that no test was carried out for this risk. That leaves two values, burning behaviour level 4 and contact heat level 3.
Contact heat is the value that matters at the grill as soon as you touch a hot grate, a lid or the handle of a chimney starter. The standard measures a threshold time for this. A hot surface is applied on the outside, and the measurement is how long it takes for the inside to become 10 degrees warmer. For level 3 the surface is at 350 °C, and the threshold time must be at least 15 seconds. Rösle’s “heat resistant up to 350 °C” is, in our reading, exactly this test temperature. So the code only confirms that the 15 seconds were reached. You cannot hold such a hot grate indefinitely with it.
According to the instructions, there is a reinforced insert between the thumb and the crook of the index finger that gives additional protection against longer, localised heat, in our understanding at the spot where a handle or chimney handle rests. The instructions themselves state two limitations. The levels refer to the layer structure of the palm, and they are based exclusively on tests on unused gloves. They therefore say nothing about the back of the hand and the cuff, and for a glove that has taken on fat and soot over many barbecue evenings they are no longer a guarantee.
For burning behaviour, level 4 is the highest: after the test flame is removed, the material may continue to burn for at most 2 seconds and afterglow for 5 seconds. Even so, the instructions carry the warning: “The glove must not come into contact with an open flame.” Both fit together. The burning test shows that the fabric extinguishes by itself; it does not capture how quickly a flame heats the hand underneath. Anything that visibly glows is also above 500 °C, which is clearly above the test surface of level 3.
Legally, according to the instructions, the glove is personal protective equipment against heat, category 2 under Regulation (EU) 2016/425. In this category the manufacturer’s self-assessment is not enough; a notified body must test the type. According to the instructions, SATRA Technology Europe in Clonee near Dublin did this, identification number 2777. Rösle provides the declaration of conformity on its website. We explain the second code, the one for mechanical risks, in the frequently asked questions.
Does the SlideX brush suit your grill grate?
Without restriction only if the grate is stainless steel. The SlideX in the set has stainless steel bristles, and Rösle’s own service FAQ recommends brass brushes for chrome-plated grates and enamelled cast iron grates, and steel as well as brass brushes for stainless steel grates. For a chrome-plated or enamelled grate you should therefore swap the brush head for the brass version SlideX Brass.
Rösle gives no reason. Our explanation: brass is softer than steel and is less harsh on a chrome layer or enamel, and chipped enamel cannot be repaired on a grate. The SlideX product page sounds more generous. It says the brush is suitable for grates and griddles of all kinds. Where product text and care recommendation from the same manufacturer diverge, we follow the care recommendation.
The SlideX is built from a long stainless steel stem with a plastic handle and a head with three movable brush rows that, according to Rösle, adapt to the grate. In the product photo the stem bends just before the head, and an eyelet hangs at the end of the handle. Rösle gives the length as 47 cm. You can use the head without the stem as a hand brush when a spot is stubborn. Through the slide function it accepts different brush heads, Rösle names brass and stainless steel as examples, and the head can be swapped completely.
Stainless steel bristles are wire bristles. For such brushes, our essentials guide advises checking them for loose bristles before every use, replacing them early and wiping the grate down damp afterwards so that no broken bristle ends up in the food.
Set or individual parts: what the prices say
In the Rösle online shop the set costs €79.95 (as of 2 October 2026). Rösle sells the tongs individually for €34.95, the gloves for €29.95 and the SlideX for €26.95, which together comes to €91.85. On that day the tongs were marked as unavailable in the shop. In the manufacturer’s shop the set therefore saves €11.90 compared with the individual parts.
On Amazon the set costs approx. €46 (as of 05.10.2026), around €34 less than in the Rösle shop. For the comparison with other sets we calculate with this price; the shop prices above show how Rösle prices the set and the individual parts relative to each other.
What comes into question instead of the set
| Model | The difference | Price | Our rating | Choose this if |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rösle BBQ Premium 3-piece (this set) | Tongs, meta-aramid gloves, SlideX grate brush | approx. €46 | 8.9 | you lack gloves and a brush and your grate is stainless steel |
| Weber Precision barbecue set 3-piece | Tongs, spatula and silicone basting brush, neither gloves nor brush | approx. €39 | 8.7 | you marinate and turn flat food with the spatula |
| Rösle Premium grill tongs 44 cm | the Premium Barbecue tongs on their own, dishwasher safe according to Rösle | approx. €30 | 8.8 | gloves and a brush already hang at your grill |
| Burnhard stainless steel barbecue set 4-piece | Tongs with magnetic closure, scraper, fork, brush with replaceable head | approx. €49.90 | 8.1 | you want a fork and protect your hands in another way |
Prices and ratings come from our individual reviews. The prices are guide values stored there and they change; the rating is our editorial assessment based on manufacturer data and rests on no measurement. What is in the “The difference” column we read up on the product pages of Weber, Rösle and Burnhard.
Care and safety according to Rösle’s information
For the set as a whole, the data sheet says “Dishwasher suitability: No”, and the SlideX’s individual page says the same. The tongs, as an individual item, are however listed as dishwasher safe. As long as this contradiction exists, we advise washing the tongs from the set by hand.
For the gloves the instructions are stricter. What they specify on cleaning, drying, storage and inspection, in full:
- neither hand washing nor machine washing, because heat protection and burning behaviour may be impaired
- remove light soiling by shaking out
- do not dry damp gloves in a tumble dryer, on a radiator or in strong sun, but hang them in enclosed rooms
- store only in closed, dry rooms at room temperature without sunlight
- check for holes, tears or open seams before every use, because these impair safety
- replace damaged gloves immediately
What fat and marinade soak into the fabric while grilling, you may according to these instructions only shake out, not wash out. We would therefore handle raw or marinated food with the tongs or with disposable gloves.
Besides the warning about open flame from the detail section, the instructions record two more. The glove does not protect against electric shocks caused by defective devices or by contact with live parts. And it should not be used near moving machines, because it can get caught there. According to the instructions, the glove also contains no substances known to trigger allergies. For the permeability to UV rays there is currently no standardised test method, which is also stated in the sheet.
What Rösle leaves open
These points are answered neither by the product pages nor by the instructions or the Amazon catalogue:
- the country of manufacture of the three parts; only the company seat in Marktoberdorf in the Allgäu is documented
- whether the set contains exactly the individual items 250243 (tongs), 250240 (gloves) and 250390 (brush); names, honeycomb pattern and dimensions fit together
- a glove size for the set (what is known about it is in the frequently asked questions)
- whether the 0.28 kg in the gloves’ data sheet refers to one glove or to the pair
- the actually measured threshold time in the contact heat test; the code shows only the level reached
- the exact composition of the inner lining: the individual page speaks of 65 percent cotton and 35 percent polyester, the instructions of close-knit cotton, the Amazon text of natural white cotton
- material thickness and closing force of the tongs
- a patent number for the locking system, which only the Amazon text calls patented
- instructions for the tongs and brush
- the temperature resistance of the brush handle and bristles
- width of the brush head and number of bristles
- a brush recommendation for grates made of uncoated cast iron
When this set fits and when another does
Our essentials guide counts six pieces to start with: tongs, spatula, gloves, cleaning tool, probe thermometer and, for charcoal, a chimney starter. The Rösle set covers three of them, and among the four offers in our table only this one includes gloves at all.
In euros the choice looks like this. The Rösle Premium grill tongs 44 cm on their own are at approx. €30 in our price box, the set at approx. €46. For around €16 extra you therefore get gloves and a brush, which Rösle sells individually in its own shop for €56.90 together. The Burnhard set with fork and scraper costs just under €4 more than the Rösle set. If you need the brass head because of your grate (see the brush section above), it cost €12.95 in the Rösle shop on 2 October 2026; together with the set that comes to around €59, and so more than the Weber Precision (approx. €39) and Burnhard (approx. €49.90).
If you need a spatula for fish and burgers or a brush for marinade, or you generally put grill tools in the dishwasher, choose the Weber Precision. According to Weber, it consists of tongs with a lock, a spatula with a three-sided bevelled edge and a large brush with silicone bristles, and it is dishwasher safe. You would then buy gloves and a brush separately.
Rösle expressly advertises the gloves for charcoal and chimney starters, and the instructions for the Premium grill gloves rule out contact with open flame. Lifting a chimney starter by the handle fits both, in our assessment. Anyone who prefers to arrange embers by hand, for example shifting briquettes in a kettle grill, is looking for the wrong tool in this set: flames shoot up quickly over embers, and charcoal tongs or a poker belong at the grill for that.
