We have not handled the Weber Original Kettle Premium 57, a charcoal kettle grill with a 57 cm diameter, and we have not grilled anything on it. This text compares data: Weber’s product pages (read on 6 October 2026), the Amazon catalogue (retrieved on 5 October 2026) and the data sheets of our reviews. For this exact item, weber.com/DE has no manual. What is stated here about setup, lighting, cooking times and care therefore comes from the manuals of the related models Original Kettle E-5730 and E-5710 (print date 31 October 2018), and the source is given with each of these details. Our own calculations and assessments are marked.
Is the Amazon item the same as the Premium on weber.com?
Yes. Amazon lists model number 1502210 under ASIN B0FTZLKL53, and the same item number is carried by the Original Kettle Premium Charcoal Grill Ø 57 cm on weber.com/DE. Weber’s pages do not link to Amazon; the match rests solely on this number.
Our price box lists the grill at approx. €249. The Amazon catalogue showed the same amount on 5 October 2026, and on weber.com/DE on 6 October 2026 Weber also asks €249.00, including VAT and excluding shipping. Black is the only colour option.
On the Kettle category page, Weber lists ten items for Germany (as of 6 October 2026, not counting the Master-Touch series, which Weber lists separately). At €249.00 the Premium 57 is the most expensive of them, and the Compact Kettle Ø 47 cm at €99.99 is the cheapest.
Bowl, grate and frame
Bowl and lid are porcelain-enamelled, meaning a glass-like layer that is fused onto the metal at high temperature. Weber calls the enamel resistant to rust, flaking and scratches, and heat-retaining. The manual of the E-5730 adds that it reflects heat and thereby supports convection cooking; underneath it explicitly says there is steel.
According to the specification table, the grate is made of plated steel. In the header row of the same page, the grates are listed as cast iron, but the table and description (on the English page: plated steel) say plated steel, and we follow that. The grate can be folded up on both sides so that you can add fuel while grilling. According to Weber, it also fits round accessories from the Gourmet BBQ System, GBS for short, which is bought separately. Underneath is a charcoal grate; the manual of the E-5730 describes it as durable steel that, according to Weber, neither burns through nor warps.
The frame consists of three aluminium legs, which Weber calls rust-resistant and which are 5 cm taller than on standard kettle grills according to Weber, plus two all-weather wheels. Under the bowl there is a mesh bottom shelf, which the English Weber page calls a lower wire shelf. Weber calls the lid and bowl handles heat-resistant, plus two handles made of glass-fibre-reinforced nylon; there are two tool hooks on the bowl handle, and a lid hook holds the lid on the bowl while grilling.
Ventilation is via adjustable openings on the bowl and lid; the specification lists a rust-resistant aluminium vent. A thermometer is built into the lid.
With the lid closed, the grill measures 107 x 57 x 75 cm according to Weber (height x width x depth), with the lid open 90 x 57 x 77.5 cm, and it weighs 18 kg. Weber gives the cooking area separately from these overall dimensions: 2342 cm², primary and total cooking area identical, room for 6 to 8 people and 13 burgers.
In detail: air, charcoal and the two zones
A kettle grill controls its heat through air. Oxygen reaches the embers through the openings in the bowl, and the gases escape through the lid vent. The more air, the hotter the charcoal burns, up to the maximum temperature of the fuel. The manual describes it the same way: for direct grilling you open the lid vent and the bowl ventilation fully, for indirect grilling at lower temperature you close both by half each, and if both are closed, the charcoal goes out.
According to the manual, direct heat is for small, tender food with a cooking time of less than 20 minutes. The charcoal is spread evenly under the grate, which preheats with the lid closed for about 10 to 15 minutes before the food goes on. According to the E-5710 manual, a beef steak 2 cm thick has a total grilling time of 4 to 6 minutes over high heat, and one 2.5 cm thick 6 to 8 minutes, in both cases turned once at the halfway point. Weber speaks of guideline values that depend on wind, altitude and outside temperature.
Indirect heat is intended for pieces with a cooking time of 20 minutes or more and for delicate food (how to set up both zones is in our guide to direct and indirect heat). The charcoal sits on opposite sides, not near the handles and not directly under the thermometer and lid vent, with the food in the middle, over a drip pan if needed. The lid should sit so that the thermometer is not above the charcoal. The manual lists small ribs and spare ribs (1.4 to 1.8 kg) at 1.5 to 2 hours over indirect, medium heat, and 2.5 cm should remain between the food and the closed lid.
Our assessment of the area: in indirect cooking, the food sits over the charcoal-free middle between two piles of charcoal, and this zone is smaller than the whole grate. You can therefore only partly count on the 13 burgers and the 6 to 8 people for ribs or a roast.
The charcoal quantities for 57 cm are given as a table in the manual of the E-5730. Direct cooking needs 30 Weber briquettes or 40 charcoal briquettes, or alternatively 1¾ measuring cups (0.98 kg) of beech lump charcoal or 1¼ measuring cups of lump charcoal from mixed wood species. For indirect cooking, the first hour takes 15 Weber briquettes, 20 charcoal briquettes or ½ measuring cup of charcoal per side into the bowl, and for each further hour 4 Weber briquettes, 7 charcoal briquettes or a handful per side. According to the manual, the measuring cup is included with the E-5730.
If you are torn between lump charcoal and briquettes, you will find the trade-offs in our guide charcoal or briquettes; Weber writes in its own guide that lump charcoal burns hotter and suits searing, while briquettes burn longer and suit slower grilling.
What do you get for €70 more than the Original Kettle 57?
According to the Premium page, a hinged grate with GBS fit, taller legs (5 cm compared with standard kettle grills, see above) and an enclosed ash catcher; the Original Kettle 57 page does not mention these three points. Both pages state the same area, One-Touch cleaning, lid thermometer and 10 years against rust-through or burn-through on bowl and lid.
The Original Kettle Ø 57 cm (Weber item number 1502202) costs €179.00 at Weber, so, calculated from the prices on the two product pages, €70 less than the Premium. It weighs 14.5 kg, 3.5 kg less, and with the lid closed measures 100 cm in height and 63.5 cm in depth: 7 cm lower and 11.5 cm less deep than the Premium. Its grate is also made of plated steel.
We do not have our own review of the Original Kettle 57; the comparison covers only what the two Weber pages state.
Safety and where to set it up
The Premium’s product page carries these safety notes: use outdoors only and read the manual before use; exposed parts can get very hot; keep children away. Do not use methylated spirits or petrol to light or relight it. There is also the note on the “risk of carbon monoxide poisoning”: operate the device outdoors only, not in enclosed spaces.
The manual of the related models marks its notes with signal words such as ACHTUNG, GEFAHR, WARNUNG and VORSICHT (notice, danger, warning and caution) and states that ignoring them can result in serious or fatal injuries or property damage from fires or explosions. Here they are sorted by topic; the manual itself remains authoritative.
- Location: outdoors only in a well-ventilated place, not in garages, buildings, covered walkways or other enclosed areas; only on a safe, level surface; never on a glass surface or a combustible surface; never under a combustible structure and never in strong wind; never if there are combustible materials within 1.5 m, for example (treated) wood on a terrace or veranda. There must be no flammable gases and liquids (for example petrol, alcohol) and no other combustible materials in the grilling area.
- Intended use and carbon monoxide: the grill is a charcoal grill for well-ventilated outdoor areas, not a heater and never to be used as one. Toxic gases build up indoors that can seriously injure or kill; in enclosed or habitable spaces, such as buildings, tents, caravans, motorhomes and boats, there is a danger to life from carbon monoxide poisoning. It is not suitable for installation in or on caravans or boats.
- Lighting: never petrol, alcohol or other volatile liquids, and only firelighters conforming to EN 1860-3. According to the manual, liquid lighter fluid is not recommended: the liquid can drip through the bowl ventilation and collect in the ash catcher, where it can ignite; it must be removed before lighting. Lighter fluid or charcoal soaked in it never goes onto warm or hot charcoal; the container is closed immediately and set down at a safe distance from the grill. Food only goes on the grate once the fuel is covered with a layer of ash.
- Operation: the grill gets very hot, must not be moved during use and must never be left unattended; children and pets stay away. No clothing with loose sleeves when lighting and operating. For grilling, adjusting the ventilation, adding charcoal, using the thermometer and opening or closing the lid, Weber requires heat-resistant grill gloves with contact heat resistance level 2 or higher under DIN EN 407 (a standard that applies in Germany), plus grill tools with long, heat-resistant handles. You never check by touch whether the cooking grate, charcoal grate, ash, charcoal or grill are hot. Alcohol as well as prescription or over-the-counter medicines can impair the ability to assemble or operate the grill safely. Power cables stay away from hot grill surfaces and are not left in the way.
- Assembly and loading: only use the grill when all parts are correctly attached (following the assembly instructions, because improper assembly can be dangerous) and the ash catcher is fitted. Charcoal always sits on the charcoal grate, never directly on the bottom of the bowl. Do not line the bowl with aluminium foil, as this disturbs the air supply; for juices during indirect cooking, use a drip pan. Do not hang the lid on the bowl handle; it has the lid hook for that. Check grill brushes for loose bristles and wear and replace them if bristles are loose; at the start of every season, Weber recommends a new one with stainless steel bristles.
- Extinguishing: close the lid vent and the bowl ventilation, then the lid. Never use water to fight flare-ups or to put out the charcoal. Never dispose of hot charcoal where someone could step on it or where there is a fire risk, and only dispose of ash once it is completely out. Only store the grill once ash and charcoal are completely out. Weber’s guide adds that it can take a while for the coals to go out.
The manual does not explicitly mention a balcony. Whether your balcony fits these rules depends on whether a combustible structure hangs above the grill, whether you can keep 1.5 m clear of combustible items, and whether your tenancy agreement and house rules allow charcoal; our guide grilling on a balcony summarises the legal situation. As a general rule, not from the manual: embers and flying sparks endanger combustible balcony screens and awnings, and the smoke drifts to the neighbours.
Ash, care and warranty
The One-Touch lever sweeps the ash into the catcher. According to the manual of the E-5730, three blades in the bowl push the ash into a large ash catcher when you move the handle back and forth. The same blades are the bowl ventilation: open, they let oxygen reach the embers, closed, they help with extinguishing; the closed lid vent is also part of that. The Premium’s product page calls the container enclosed, and the manual describes the catcher as fully enclosed so that the ash is not blown around.
Before every use, you remove ash and old charcoal from the bottom of the bowl and from the catcher; this keeps the air moving and maintains grilling performance. This requires that the charcoal is out and the grill has cooled down completely.
Paint-like flakes can form on the inside of the lid, carbon deposited from vaporised fat and smoke, as the manual explains. You loosen them with a stainless steel grill brush and wipe over with a kitchen towel while the grill is still warm, not hot. For the surfaces, Weber advises against sharp-edged objects and abrasive cleaners. In harsh environments (acid rain, chemicals, salt water), the outside should be washed more often with warm soapy water, rinsed and dried thoroughly.
Weber graduates the warranty by component. Bowl and lid have 10 years against rust-through or burn-through, the One-Touch cleaning system has 5 years against the same, plastic components 5 years (fading and discolouration excluded) and all other parts 2 years. It is a voluntary, free manufacturer’s warranty, valid in Europe, the Middle East and Africa; the two-year statutory warranty in the EU remains unaffected. Weber lists surface rust, dents and scratches as normal wear (what helps against surface rust is explained in our guide rusty grill: what to do?), and substantial defects such as rust-through or burn-through are accepted. The product page, on the other hand, calls the enamel scratch-resistant. Our assessment: for the warranty, the terms count, not the product page’s sales line.
The 2018 manual of the E-5730 voids the warranty in case of abuse, improper use, modification, neglect, incorrect assembly, lack of maintenance, insects and rodents, salty air or chlorine sources such as pools, extreme weather, and non-original parts. You report a warranty claim via the claim form with a description of the fault, serial number, proof of purchase and photos of the damage, or alternatively in writing to Weber-Stephen Deutschland GmbH in Ingelheim; Weber recommends registering the grill.
What Weber does not state
These details are missing from Weber’s pages and from the Amazon catalogue, as far as we evaluated both for item 1502210:
- User manual, assembly instructions and data sheet for this number (we have not read the general instructions for charcoal grills, no. 71150)
- Assembly time and scope, including whether bowl and lid arrive pre-assembled
- Scope of delivery in detail: under “included”, the product page lists only the lid thermometer; measuring cup, charcoal holders, warming rack, firelighters and tools are missing from this list
- Measuring range, scale and accuracy of the lid thermometer
- Maximum temperature, heat-up time to embers, burn time and charcoal consumption per cook (the quantity table above belongs to related models)
- For which type of heat (direct or indirect) the capacity figures of 13 burgers and 6 to 8 people apply
- Sheet thickness, steel grade and enamel thickness of bowl and lid, as well as the lifespan of the enamel in years
- Material of the charcoal grate and ash catcher on this item
- Grate diameter and height of the grate above the bottom
- Heat distribution and temperature stability over hours
- Smoking position on the One-Touch lever
- Fit and dimensions of the Premium cover and the protection level of the leather grill gloves
- Country of production and manufacturing site (the 2018 manual names Weber-Stephen Products LLC in Palatine, Illinois as the warranty provider)
- Market launch at Weber (the Amazon catalogue gives 21 January 2026 as the release date)
We have not checked Weber’s spare parts search for number 1502210, nor independent measurements of the heat-up curve.
On weight, the sources contradict each other: Weber states 18 kg, while the Amazon data field reads 30.005 pounds, which converts to 13.6 kg. Which value refers to the grill and which to the packed parcel is not documented; we follow Weber.

The comparison of the best kettle grills 2026 shows more 57 cm models. The prices are guideline values from the price boxes of our reviews, not manufacturer prices; the rating is our editorial assessment from manufacturer data and not a measurement result. For the Master-Touch, our price box shows no Amazon offer, only marketplace sellers (as of 5 October 2026). The Bar-B-Kettle row follows the Amazon item with Weber number 1502062; under the same name, weber.com/DE lists item 1331004 for €199.99.
When this Kettle, when another?
If the area is enough for you, the Premium is not necessarily the answer: the Original Kettle 57 costs €70 less at Weber. For two people, a 57 cm bowl is rather large (our assessment). Smaller options are the Ø 47 cm Kettles, which according to the category page start at Weber with the Compact Kettle at €99.99.
If you cook ribs or roasts, you add charcoal after the first hour (quantity table above), and the Premium has the hinged grate for that. Our assessment: for such cooking times, this is the difference that justifies the surcharge; for steaks and other short cooks under 20 minutes, it goes unused. If you want to plan zones and smoke from the start, look at the Master-Touch GBS E-5750 from the table. Its approx. €329 comes from marketplace sellers, so the gap to the Premium is around €80 (€328.75 minus €249.00); against Weber’s own price for the Master-Touch it may turn out differently.
Charcoal needs lead time: until the charcoal is covered in ash, no food goes on the grate (lighting rules above). If you want to get something on the table quickly after work, you are therefore better off with gas or electric (our assessment); the guide gas or charcoal and the grill finder help with the choice.
If you often have to lift the grill, for example over steps or into a car, the Bar-B-Kettle 57 gives you less to carry: 12 instead of 18 kg according to Weber. In our price box it costs €129.11 against €249.00, so around €120 less.
The Premium is the wrong choice for anyone who is not allowed to set up charcoal; for them, our balcony guide names electric grills as the least conflict-prone choice.
On budget: on the product page, Weber recommends (as of 6 October 2026) the Premium cover for €69.99, leather grill gloves for €34.99 and the two-piece Precision grill tool set for €49.99, together €154.97 (our own calculation). With the grill at approx. €249, that comes to around €404, not counting charcoal, firelighters and grill brush. When you buy the grill in the Weber shop, Weber gives 10 per cent off the matching cover according to the product page, applied automatically in the basket (as of 6 October 2026).
