A half-round bowl, a hinged lid above it, two wheels on the left, two legs on the right: the Relaxdays XXL Charcoal Grill is a small barrel grill on a tubular frame. It costs approx. €100 according to our price box, and Relaxdays itself simply calls it “Holzkohlegrill mit Deckel” (charcoal grill with lid).
We have not had the grill in our hands and have not cooked anything on it. The details below come from the product page at relaxdays.de (retrieved on 21.10.2026), from the Amazon catalogue and from the product image. Where we infer or weigh something, we say so. Relaxdays has not put operating instructions online. That has consequences for several sections, above all safety and care.
A barrel grill in the entry-level class
In our charcoal grill category, the Relaxdays is one of the grill trolleys around €100. In this group, open trolleys without a lid stand alongside models with a thermometer and crank. This one has a lid, and with that the equipment list almost ends.
The product image shows the typical barrel shape. The base and the lid are each half a cylinder, the lid opens backwards and has a bar handle on top. On the right end there is a horizontal handle bar. To move it, you lift the trolley there and roll it on the two wheels like a wheelbarrow; Relaxdays speaks of “Rollen & Griff für mobile Nutzung” (wheels and handle for mobile use).
Our assessment of the design: a barrel grill is long and narrow. Embers and food lie in a row, which suits sausages, skewers, corn on the cob and vegetables. A tall roast belongs in the middle, because the half-round lid gets lower towards the edges. How high the cooking space is with the lid closed is not stated anywhere.
Relaxdays lists three grill trolleys with a lid in its own shop. This one costs €99.99 there on 21.10.2026 and is the cheapest. The sister models 10053365 and 10050872 are €109.99 and €159.99 in the manufacturer’s shop, both with a thermometer in the lid according to the manufacturer. What else sets them apart is covered in the questions at the end.
Grates, dimensions and weight according to the manufacturer
Relaxdays gives the three grates as width by depth:
- Grill grate: approx. 71 × 34 cm
- Warming rack: approx. 67 × 12 cm
- Charcoal grate: approx. 67.5 × 28.5 cm
The charcoal grate is smaller than the grill grate above it, by 3.5 cm in width and 5.5 cm in depth. That fits the barrel shape: the bowl narrows towards the bottom, so the charcoal sits lower and on a narrower area. For you, that means the outer edge of the grill grate does not lie directly over the embers. It is cooler there, a spot for vegetables or finished food.
The product image shows the warming rack at the back of the bowl, above the grill grate and under the opened lid. At 12 cm deep, it is a narrow shelf. Relaxdays describes it as a place to keep food warm until it is eaten.
On the grill grate there are handles of approx. 1.5 × 4 × 22.5 cm (H × W × D), for lifting the hot grate according to the manufacturer. With them you can reach the embers to add charcoal without first letting the grate cool. Grill gloves are still a must, because steel over embers gets hot.
Relaxdays gives the outer dimensions as approx. 96.5 × 103 × 64.5 cm (H × W × D). With the lid raised, the grill is approx. 123 cm high, which is the more important figure for a spot under an awning or porch roof. The 103 cm width is an envelope dimension that includes the handle bar and wheels. You cannot read a grilling area from it; that is what the grate dimensions are for.
According to Relaxdays, the weight is approx. 11 kg. The Amazon catalogue lists 24.71 pounds, which converts to approx. 11.2 kg; the two figures agree.
In detail: controlling heat with flaps and lid
Charcoal glows as hot as the oxygen that reaches it. More air means more heat, less air means slower, cooler embers. Every charcoal grill with a lid works on this principle. What differs is which adjustments it gives you for it.
On the Relaxdays, they are side flaps. The product page puts it briefly: “Seitliche Klappen lassen Belüftung regeln” (side flaps allow you to regulate ventilation). In addition there are air holes approx. 1.8 cm in diameter.
Relaxdays does not mention height adjustment for the charcoal or grill grate on this model. If you assume the distance between embers and food is fixed, you are left with two levers: the flaps and the amount of charcoal. On grills with a crank or several hanging heights, you bring the embers closer for a hard sear. Here you instead add more charcoal or open the flaps wider.
The lid changes how the heat reaches the food. Open, you grill almost only with radiant heat from below. Closed, the hot air builds up under the curved sheet metal and cooks the food from above as well, similar to an oven with bottom heat and fan. Through the lid, Relaxdays promises “gleichmäßige Temperaturverteilung” (even temperature distribution); that is a manufacturer claim with no published measurement.
Indirect cooking means thicker pieces cooked slowly beside the embers rather than over them. To do this, you push the charcoal onto one half of the charcoal grate and place the meat over the empty half, lid closed, flaps half open. The long charcoal grate of a barrel grill has room for this. How the direct and indirect zones affect cooking time is explained in our guide to direct and indirect heat.
A temperature display in the lid does not appear in the product description. For the two more expensive Relaxdays trolleys, the manufacturer highlights its thermometer specifically, so we assume this model has none. For indirect cooking, a separate grill thermometer with a probe for the cooking space then belongs on your shopping list.
How much grilling area do you get for approx. €100?
Calculated, approx. 2,414 cm² on the grill grate, plus approx. 804 cm² on the warming rack. In our comparison of grill trolleys around €100, that is a lot: the Outsunny Kompakt Grillwagen reaches 0.12 m² for approx. €98, so around half.
To help you picture the area: a DIN A4 sheet (the standard paper size in Germany and the EU) measures 21 × 29.7 cm, so approx. 624 cm². The grill grate equals almost four such sheets side by side, the warming rack a good one. The embers below, meaning the charcoal grate, come to approx. 1,924 cm², which is around 80 per cent of the grate area.
Relaxdays leaves open how many people that is enough for. The product page says that “Steaks, Röster sowie Kartoffeln oder Gemüse für mehrere Personen Platz” (steaks, sausages, potatoes or vegetables for several people) fit. We do not derive a number of people from that, because it depends on whether you put everything on in one go or in turns. If you grill in stages for a larger group and push the finished food onto the warming rack, this area gets you further than a smaller grate with a thermometer. That is how we read the area figures.
Material and workmanship: what can be verified
On the material details, Relaxdays contradicts itself. The product description says “Aus Stahl & Kunststoff gefertigt” (made of steel and plastic), while the product details say “90% Stahl 10% Gummi” (90% steel, 10% rubber). Elsewhere the wheels are called “Kunststoffrollen” (plastic wheels). Our reading: bowl, lid and frame are steel, the wheels plastic, perhaps with a rubber tread. Only the steel, in black, is documented. For sheet thickness and grate material, see the list further below.
The weight gives an indirect hint. The Strattore Holzkohlegrill XL weighs approx. 24.79 kg according to the Amazon catalogue, more than double. A light grill is easy to push and can even be lifted into a car boot now and then. But it has less mass to store heat. Thin sheet metal heats up quickly and cools quickly as soon as you open the lid, and in wind it loses more heat than a thick-walled bowl. From eleven kilograms of total weight, we conclude rather thin material. That is not a measured wall thickness, only a plausibility check.
One more point on the images. Relaxdays marks the product images on its own page with “Mit KI erstellt” (created with AI). We would therefore not take details such as weld seams or the surface from these images as evidence. The basic shape matches the name and dimensions.
What else is worth considering?
| Model | The difference | Price | Our rating | Choose this one if |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Relaxdays XXL Charcoal Grill (this one) | Barrel grill with lid and warming rack, temperature only via side flaps | approx. €100 | 7.5 | you want a lot of grate area for little money and can do without a temperature display |
| Strattore Holzkohlegrill XL | Grill grate height-adjustable by crank according to the Amazon text, thermometer in the lid | approx. €99.90 | 7.7 | you want to control the heat through the distance to the embers and accept a much heavier unit |
| tepro Pasadena 1030 | no lid, but two height-adjustable grates | approx. €76 | 8.2 | you mostly grill directly and want to read instructions with fuel details beforehand |
| Outsunny Kompakt Grillwagen | Thermometer, side shelf and removable ash container, smaller grilling area | approx. €98 | 7.8 | you usually grill for a few people and find a temperature display more important than grate area |
The prices are the guide values from our price boxes and change constantly. The rating is our editorial assessment from the data sheets; we measured nothing for it.
When to choose this grill, and when another
If you want to read the temperature rather than guess it, the Outsunny and the Strattore are almost level with the Relaxdays on price and both have a thermometer in the lid. Within the brand, the Relaxdays model 10053365 would be the way to get there.
The Strattore adds something that matters more for heat control than the display: according to the Amazon text, you adjust the height of the grill grate by crank and so change the distance to the embers without rearranging charcoal. You pay for that in weight.
If you mostly grill directly anyway, meaning sausages, steak and vegetables over the embers, you do not need a lid. The tepro Pasadena 1030 costs approx. €76 instead of approx. €100, has two height-adjustable grates and is ahead of all three other trolleys in our rating. You can read its instructions, with details on fuel quantity, before buying.
If you have to push the grill into a garage or shed after every use, the low weight speaks for the Relaxdays. If it is to stand under an awning, measure beforehand whether the open lid fits underneath.
Do you rent, and do your house rules have strict regulations on grills and distances? Then, for us, the missing online instructions would be a reason to prefer a model whose requirements you can read beforehand. Whether the printed instructions in the box contain minimum distances, we do not know.
And if you are still torn between charcoal, gas and electric, the grill finder narrows down the choice.
What Relaxdays does not state
According to the scope of delivery, the instructions come only in print. They are missing online, and with them any manufacturer statement on safety, positioning, cleaning and fuel. The product page and the Amazon listing also lack:
- maximum amount of charcoal or briquettes
- wall thickness of bowl, lid and frame
- material and surface of the grill and warming rack
- type of paint or coating
- number and position of the air holes, and whether the flaps regulate intake or exhaust air
- ash container or ash drawer
- shelf or side table (none is visible in the product image)
- working height of the grill grate
- maximum temperature and heat-up time
- assembly time and tools needed
- spare parts, such as grates or wheels
- a matching cover hood
- country of origin and year of release
What applies to every charcoal grill in general, regardless of Relaxdays: you burn charcoal only outdoors, never in a garage or home, because carbon monoxide is produced. To light it, you use firelighter cubes or a chimney starter, not methylated spirits or petrol. You dispose of ash only once it has cooled completely, and that can take many hours. A cover hood goes on only when the grill is cold. Whether you may grill on a balcony is covered in our guide to grilling on a balcony.
Who is it for?
The Relaxdays suits you if you grill sausages, skewers and vegetables for family or friends at the weekend, close the lid now and then for thicker pieces, and do not want to spend more than approx. €100 on it. Whether you buy from Amazon or directly from Relaxdays hardly changes the price: both were at €99.99 in October 2026 (Amazon page on 20.10.2026: €99.99), and the manufacturer’s shop delivers free of shipping costs within Germany.
It is the wrong choice for anyone planning low and slow, meaning pulled pork or ribs over six to eight hours at a constantly low temperature. That needs a cooking space that holds heat and an air control whose effect you follow on a thermometer. With a light barrel grill without a temperature display, we would not attempt that, and would reach for a smoker or kamado instead.
