Four knobs under a black plate
The Outsunny 8000BTU is a gas plancha. You cook on a continuous metal plate with an enamel coating, with four burners underneath. It has no grate, no lid and no frame. In the German manual it is simply called “Gas-Plancha für den Außenbereich” (outdoor gas plancha), and according to our price box it costs approx. €113 (Amazon page on 21 October 2026: €112.90).
The product photo shows a flat, rectangular box. The black plate has a raised edge and sits on a silver housing with a brushed front. There are four black control knobs in a row, and a small red button sits between the second and the third. Ventilation slots are visible on the left of the housing, and the gas connection piece is at the bottom. An orange hose with pressure regulator lies next to it in the picture.
The grill is sold under Outsunny, the house brand of the mail-order retailer Aosom, there with article number 846-133V92SR. The rating plate shows a different designation: model TP74-73, made by Zhejiang Lumbre Electric Appliance in Lishui, China. In the Amazon catalogue, MH Handel GmbH is listed as the manufacturer.
In our overview of gas grills, it is one of the small griddle units that are placed on a table.
What Outsunny states about burners, plate and dimensions
According to Aosom, each of the four main burners delivers 2.4 kW, also given as 8000 BTU in the shop. The manual states a nominal heat output of 9.6 kW for the whole appliance. Ignition is piezoelectric. When it comes to the burner material, information gets thin: “stainless steel” appears only in the product title, not in the technical data and not in the manual.
Aosom gives the cooking surface as 73 x 34 cm and the outer dimensions as 77 x 44.5 x 19 cm (width, depth, height). So there are 4 cm between plate width and housing width. According to the shop the weight is 11 kg; Amazon lists 24.25 lb, which also converts to roughly 11.0 kg. The datasheet gives stainless steel and metal as the material, the frame is stainless steel, and the colour is silver and black.
Grease runs through a side drain channel into a removable grease tray. Aosom gives its dimensions as 9.5 x 7.5 x 4.5 cm.
Four levelling feet can be adjusted by up to 2 cm. According to Aosom, the box contains the griddle plate, a regulator, a hose and the manual. The manual’s exploded drawing confirms this with five items: plate top, main body with burners, four feet, four control knobs, and regulator with hose.
There is an inconsistency in the shop itself. The title of the Aosom page speaks of a “Grillwagen” (grill cart) of 44 x 44.5 x 19 cm, while the technical data on the same page give a width of 77 cm and the manual lists the model as an appliance “für den Tischgebrauch” (for tabletop use). Neither the photo nor the parts list shows wheels or a base frame. We go by the technical data.
What the manufacturer does not state
Neither the Aosom page nor the manual IN241100626V02_DE gives:
- Material and thickness of the plate under the enamel layer, its weight and its maximum temperature
- Material and sheet thickness of the housing in detail
- what the load capacity of 10 kg refers to
- the capacity of the grease tray
- Outlet pressure of the supplied regulator and length of the hose
- the nozzle size (the field in the rating plate table is empty)
- an approval or a ban for balcony use
- whether cartridges can be used instead of gas bottles
- lid, windshield or cover as accessories
- spare parts for plate, regulator and knobs
- warranty terms (the manual has no warranty section)
- how many people the surface is intended for
In detail: 9.6 kW on 73 x 34 centimetres
Under a grate, each burner largely determines on its own how hot it gets directly above it. A closed metal plate, by contrast, also conducts heat sideways. On such a plate, four zones blend into one another instead of being sharply separated. Outsunny promises that different ingredients can be cooked at different temperatures at the same time. How sharp the boundary between hot and cooler side turns out depends on the material and thickness of the plate, and the documents say nothing about that.
On a width of 73 cm, a good 18 cm falls to each burner, on paper. If you sear a steak on full power on the left and turn two knobs back on the right, you get a resting spot for vegetables or finished food that is not completely cold.
A simple figure helps for context: output divided by area. 9,600 W on 2,482 cm² gives just under 3.9 W per cm². The smaller Outsunny 3-burner manages about 3.4 W per cm² with 7.5 kW on 62 x 35.5 cm (according to Aosom), and the Cozze G-400 with 4.4 kW on 480 x 350 mm about 2.6 W per cm². On paper, the four-burner model is therefore ahead. The figure does not say how hot the surface actually gets; plate material, wind and outside temperature also matter for that.
A small side note on the output figure: 8000 BTU converts to about 2.34 kW, not 2.4 kW. Outsunny treats the two as equal. In practice the difference is negligible; the manual works with 9.6 kW.
What is lost without a lid is indirect cooking. A roast or a whole chicken needs hot air circulating under a hood. The manual nevertheless mentions an “oberen Deckel” (upper lid) and “Grillroste” (grill grates) in several places. This is clearly boilerplate text written for several appliances; the parts list of this model contains neither. As intended uses, Outsunny names pancakes, sausages, salmon, steak and vegetables.
Do you need a gas bottle as well?
Yes. Pressure regulator and hose are included, the bottle is not. The manual puts it this way: to operate the grill, you need a liquefied gas bottle and the correct pressure regulator. For Germany, the rating plate table has category I3B/P(50) ticked, meaning butane, propane or a mixture of the two at 50 mbar.
For bottle size, the manual sets an upper limit: less than 80 cm high and no more than 35 cm wide. The bottle goes to the left of the grill, not inside it, protected and away from heat. The gas connection is also on the left, so you need space on that side. You never store a spare bottle under or next to the grill, and never near heat or ignition sources.
For the hose, the manual states a diameter of 8 to 10 mm and recommends a length of 1.5 m or less. It must not be twisted, under tension, or touch any parts of the grill that get hot.
Connection takes four steps. You unscrew the orange protective cap of the bottle, check that the black sealing washer sits in the bottle valve, place the regulator on the valve and tighten the switch clockwise. Afterwards all connections are checked for leaks with soapy water, after every connection and not just the first time. At the end of a barbecue evening, you turn off the gas at the bottle. What to look out for when buying the bottle itself is covered in our guide to the gas bottle for the grill.
Lighting, preheating, watching the flame
Ignition works per knob. You press it for 3 to 5 seconds, turn it anticlockwise to “HI”, and keep holding it for another 2 seconds after the click. Once the first burner is lit, the neighbouring burners light too, provided their knobs are also at “HI”. Your face should not be above the plate when lighting.
If it does not work, you turn to “AUS” (off) and wait 5 minutes so the escaped gas can disperse. Only then do you try again. Our guide gas grill will not light collects further causes.
Before cooking, the manual gives about 10 to 15 minutes of preheating; the very first start-up is excepted. How hot the plate is after this time is not stated anywhere.
There is still a useful checkpoint. On “HI” the flame should be about 12 to 20 mm long and burn only faintly orange. The marking on a nozzle, incidentally, corresponds to its diameter in millimetres; the manual gives 0.76 as an example. You must not drill out or replace nozzles, gas taps and valves yourself.
Cleaning, maintenance and placement according to the manual
On where to put it, the manual is clear. The model is for tabletop use and must not stand on combustible materials while in use. Outsunny recommends at least 0.5 to 1.0 m distance from combustible materials, and garages and enclosed areas are excluded. Section 10 adds: a level and stable surface away from combustible objects such as fences or overhanging branches, never indoors, do not move it during operation and do not leave it unattended, keep children and pets away, keep a fire extinguisher within reach. It is stored only after it has cooled down completely, and handled only with gloves.
According to the manual, the area with the black handle also gets hot. The rating plate therefore carries a warning to wear an oven glove during use.
For a balcony, that means in our reading: a balcony beneath another balcony or an awning is hard to reconcile with “outdoors only” and the distances. Whether gas is allowed there at all is decided by your tenancy agreement and house rules. More in the guide grilling on a balcony.
For cleaning, Outsunny recommends servicing or cleaning the grill every 90 days, and at least once a year. The manual specifies five steps:
- Switch the burner off for 15 to 20 minutes and make sure the appliance has cooled down.
- Soak the grill grates regularly and wash them in soapy water.
- Clean the inside of the lid with hot soapy water, and remove stubborn stains with a wire brush, steel wool or scouring sponge.
- Check the burners for insects and spiders and clean the venturi area with a pipe cleaner.
- No modifications to the appliance; they are “strengstens verboten” (strictly forbidden).
Steps 2 and 3 refer to parts that this grill does not have. There is no separate instruction for the enamelled plate itself, and no statement on the dishwasher. Whether a wire brush and steel wool are suitable for the enamel layer is therefore left open by the manual. We would be careful on the plate until the retailer answers that. If a ventilation opening is blocked, it is cleared with a round rod of 1.6 mm diameter.
Once a year, a specialist from the local gas dealer should service the appliance. According to the manual, you should not service it yourself. General cleaning tips are in our guide cleaning a gas grill.
What else comes into question?
| Model | The difference | Price | Our rating | Pick this one if |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Outsunny 8000BTU 4 burners (this one) | four burners, 9.6 kW, plate 73 x 34 cm, no lid | approx. €113 | 7.7 | you want to cook on one surface for several people |

| Cozze G-400 Plancha | two burners, 4.4 kW, plate 480 x 350 mm | approx. €177 | 8.1 | you can manage with less surface and want a smaller plancha |
| Weber Spirit II E-310 | grill cart with lid and grate | approx. €459.99 | 9.2 | you have a permanent spot in the garden and also want to cook indirectly |
The prices come from our price boxes and change constantly in the shops. The rating is our editorial assessment based on the manufacturer’s data.
When this grill fits and when another one does
Start with the number of diners. At 73 x 34 cm, this is the largest plate among the three griddle units in the table in our comparison. If you regularly want to lay sausages, vegetables and fish side by side for four or more people, you have the most room here. If you mostly cook for two, you can go for the 3-burner (approx. €123, this one: approx. €113) and get a narrower appliance.
Then the spot. You need a table that has at least 77 x 44.5 cm free and is non-combustible, space on the left for the bottle and the clearance from the manual all around. A wooden table is ruled out in our reading of the sentence “not on combustible materials”. If you can manage with a smaller plate, the Cozze G-400 (approx. €177, this one: approx. €113) gives you two burners instead of four.
Third point: the cooking method. If you want to cook ribs, roasts or a pizza stone in an enclosed space, no plancha serves you well. The Weber Spirit II E-310 costs approx. €460 (this one: approx. €113), and comes with a lid and grate, but needs a permanent spot in the garden.
Last, the budget. On top of the approx. €113 comes the gas bottle, and if you want a cover, you have to look for it from another supplier. If you are unsure which design fits at all, the Grill Finder offers a preselection.
Who is it suitable for?
For people with a stable, non-combustible surface outdoors who mainly cook quickly: pancakes in the morning, sausages and vegetables in the evening. The four knobs let you run one part of the plate hot and another turned down.
At 11 kg, you can take the grill along to a campsite. Outsunny does not mention carrying handles, a bag or a transport lock for the plate, though. For assembly, the manual recommends two people, screws are tightened by hand only, and because of sharp steel edges it advises gloves.
The Outsunny is the wrong choice for anyone who needs a lid, and for anyone who has only a wooden table or a covered balcony. If you have children nearby, you should know that the manual expressly requires that they not be allowed to operate the appliance and that small children be kept away from the hot parts.
