The Nexos kettle grill is a charcoal grill with a round, black bowl and lid on a frame with two wheels. Its chrome-plated grate is Ø 41.5 cm, and the model number is SC00271. Our price box lists it at approx. €30. The amount is set by a marketplace seller, so the price that the Amazon page shows you on the day you buy is the one that counts. We have placed it in the category Kettle grills.
We have not handled the Nexos and have not grilled anything on it. This text sets three sources side by side: the Amazon listing (read on 14 October 2026, which we call “the listing” for short), the company page of Nexos Trading and the product photo. We found no manual or data sheet anywhere. What remains open as a result is collected in the section “What the listing does not state”. Our own calculations and assessments are marked as such.
Nexos Trading: an importer from Naila
Nexos Trading GmbH & Co. KG is based in Naila (Bavaria, commercial register Hof, HRA 3694) and describes itself on its company page as specialising in import and export from the Far East. By its own account it buys its goods directly from manufacturers, and according to Nexos a purchasing office in Ningbo, China, handles quality assurance and shipping. The range on nexos-trading.com covers twelve categories, including garden furniture, camping items, gazebos and fitness. Grills are not among them, and the category pages consist only of image galleries. The company has no product page or data sheet for this grill, and the actual manufacturer also remains unnamed.
The listing gives “Nexos Trading” as the manufacturer and China as the country of origin. For you this means: what is written below about features and materials comes from the texts and data fields of the listing, not from manufacturer documents.
Build and technology: what the listing and photo show
According to the listing, the Nexos comes with a lid, a thermometer in the lid, two wheels, an enamelled fire bowl, a chrome-plated grill grate, a removable ash container and a galvanised charcoal grate. Elsewhere the listing writes of an enamelled body with a galvanised charcoal grate and ash catcher. It is delivered as a black kettle grill for self-assembly, with fixing material and German assembly instructions. Assembly is said to be quick and uncomplicated. A cover, chimney starter and other accessories are not listed.
The photo shows a round bowl with a domed lid and bow handle. On the left of the lid sits a round disc with several openings and a small lever, which by shape and position is the vent. A handle with two screws is fixed to the front of the bowl. Between the legs, under the bowl, lies a round metal plate with a hollow in the middle; whether it is the ash catcher from the equipment list, the photo does not show.
The listing gives the overall dimensions as 54.5 x 44.5 x 81 cm (W x D x H). Wheels and handles may be included in the measurement, so we treat the figures as envelope dimensions and derive neither a bowl size nor a grilling area from them.
On the coatings: enamel is a layer of glass fused onto metal. As long as it is undamaged it protects the base, and where it chips off the metal is exposed. Galvanised means a part carries a zinc layer that protects against rust as long as it is intact; chrome-plated means a chrome layer on a base metal. The Amazon data sheet gives aluminium as the material, which contradicts the text statements, so we do not use that entry.
In detail: how a kettle grill controls its heat
A kettle grill has no dial; the air controls the heat. If a lot of oxygen reaches the charcoal, it burns hot; if all openings are closed, it suffocates. Usually there are openings in the base of the bowl for the intake air and in the lid for the exhaust. In the photo of the Nexos, the disc with openings sits in the lid, presumably the exhaust. Whether there is an intake opening at the base of the bowl remains open: the photo shows the bowl only from the side.
In kettle grills the charcoal grate holds the charcoal above the base of the bowl so that air reaches the embers and the ash falls downwards. The listing credits the lid with even heat distribution, and for the Nexos it names indirect grilling, braising and slow cooking.
Indirect means: the charcoal lies on one side of the charcoal grate, the food next to it, and the lid stays closed. That way a thick piece cooks through without burning on the outside. How the setup looks in detail is explained in the guide Using direct and indirect heat correctly. A diffuser and charcoal baskets are not included with the Nexos. A zone without embers therefore only arises if you pile the charcoal on one side.
If you want to cook for several hours at low temperature, you will at some point have to add charcoal, depending on the amount. With a kettle grill without a refuelling opening, that means: take off the food and grate, add charcoal, put everything back. The Napoleon in our table has hinged grates for this.
A lid thermometer measures the air at the point where it sits, that is, up in the lid. At the grate above the embers it can look quite different, and for the meat the number in the lid says nothing at all. Only a probe thermometer shows the core temperature.
How many people does the grate serve?
For two, at most three people, that is how we would plan. The grate is Ø 41.5 cm, which by calculation is approx. 1,353 cm², and the data sheet of the listing gives the cooking area as 1353.4 cm².
The area follows solely from the grate diameter. The listing says steaks, sausages, vegetables and more fit on the grate, including several dishes at the same time.
For scale: Weber gives a grilling area of 1,548 cm² for the Compact Kettle 47, around 14 percent more than the Nexos (our calculation). Napoleon puts the 57 cm bowl at 2,356 cm², around 74 percent more. The range of two to three people is an estimate from the grate size compared with these neighbours; it is not documented. With indirect cooking, each of these grates leaves less area for the food than the figure suggests.
Safety, placement and care without a manual
We have not seen the German assembly instructions that are supposed to be part of the delivery, and they cannot be found online. That means minimum distances, placement notes and instructions on lighting, extinguishing and ash are not documented for the Nexos, and we do not pass any of it off as a manufacturer requirement. All that is documented is that the listing lists the grill for outdoor use.
What follows are general rules for charcoal grills and not a Nexos document. As a general rule:
- Charcoal belongs outdoors. Burning produces carbon monoxide, which builds up in tents and garages.
- Do not use methylated spirits or petrol for lighting, because of flash fires. A chimney starter or firelighters for solid fuels are the usual way.
- The standing surface must be level, firm and non-flammable.
- The minimum distance to flammable parts such as a wall or railing is set by the manufacturer in its manual; we do not put a figure of our own in its place.
On cleaning, the listing says the enamelled fire bowl and the removable ash container make it easy after grilling. Our caution regarding the grate and enamel is in the FAQ. How to prepare a grill for the cold season is explained in the guide Winterising your grill.
What the listing does not state
These details are missing from the Amazon listing, the data sheet and the Nexos Trading company page:
- Weight
- Material thickness of body, lid, grate and frame, plus the metal under the enamel, galvanising and chrome plating, and the material of lid, frame, legs and wheels
- Number, position and adjustability of the air openings in the lid and bowl
- Scale, measuring range, accuracy and replaceability of the lid thermometer
- Maximum temperature, heat-up time, recommended amount of charcoal and burn time
- Height or distance between charcoal grate and grill grate, height adjustment, zones for direct and indirect cooking, option to add charcoal
- Grilling area as a manufacturer figure (the data sheet gives only the value that follows from Ø 41.5 cm) and a number of people
- Purpose of the round metal plate under the bowl in the photo
- Manual including safety notes, minimum distances and placement notes
- Assembly time, tools and difficulty
- Manufacturer warranty, spare parts for grate, ash catcher, thermometer and wheels
- Weather resistance, notes on overwintering and rust protection
- Matching cover and any accessories, such as a pizza stone, smoker box or grate lifter
- The actual manufacturer and the year of market launch
- Product safety details such as the responsible person and manufacturer address: the relevant sections of the Amazon page reported a loading error when we retrieved it
What else is worth considering?
| Model | The difference | Price | Our rating | Choose this one if |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nexos kettle grill 41.5 cm (this one) | Grate Ø 41.5 cm, two wheels, thermometer in the lid according to the listing, warranty not stated | approx. €30 | 7.4 | you want to try a kettle grill for little money or use it as a second grill |
| HOMELUX kettle grill 44 cm | Grate Ø 44 cm, bowl and lid of enamelled iron, no lid thermometer according to the manufacturer’s list | approx. €44 | 7.8 | you work with a probe thermometer anyway and want a little more grate area |
| Weber Compact Kettle 47 cm | Ø 47 cm, ten years against rust-through on bowl and lid according to Weber (first buyers), no lid thermometer in Weber’s list | approx. €79 | 8.7 | you want to use the grill for several seasons and need manufacturer figures along with a warranty |
| Napoleon NK22K-LEG-2 | Ø 57 cm, hinged grates for adding charcoal, stainless steel vent sliders | approx. €373 | 9.5 | you regularly grill for larger groups or for a long time at low temperature |
The prices are guide values from our price boxes. The rating is an editorial assessment, not a measurement result, and the table is not suitable for comparing dimensions, because the figures come from different sources. Our comparison Best kettle grills 2026 shows more kettle grills.
When the Nexos fits and when another one does
Budget first. On top of the purchase price come charcoal and firelighters, plus a cover and chimney starter, which the delivery lacks. The guide Charcoal or briquettes clarifies which charcoal is the better value.
In our price boxes the HOMELUX costs around €14 more. For that it has 2.5 cm more grate diameter, and according to the manufacturer the bowl and lid are made of enamelled iron, whereas with the Nexos the metal under the enamel is unknown. HOMELUX’s manufacturer list has no lid thermometer. If you work with a probe thermometer anyway and steer the heat via the vents, you are better served by the HOMELUX (our assessment); if you want to read the temperature in the lid, stay with the Nexos.
With the Weber Compact Kettle 47 the extra cost is around €49. For that, Weber has figures that the Nexos lacks: a grilling area stated by the manufacturer and a warranty that, according to Weber’s warranty table, covers rust-through of bowl and lid. This Weber also has no lid thermometer according to the manufacturer’s list. If you want to keep the grill for longer than one season, in our assessment you should seriously consider the €49.
The Napoleon is a different price class, around €343 more. For that you get the larger bowl with hinged grates for adding charcoal and vent sliders made of stainless steel. If you want to cook for hours at low temperature or regularly grill for more than three people, you would not even compare it with the Nexos.
The label “Budget Pick” refers to the price alone: of the four grills in the table, the Nexos is the cheapest. It says nothing about durability.
Who is it suitable for?
The listing names garden, balcony and campsite as places of use, derived solely from the catalogue dimensions. Charcoal means smoke and flying sparks, and what is allowed on a balcony is summarised in the guide Grilling on a balcony. On campsites the site rules may ban charcoal grills. If you do not yet know which type of grill suits your space, use the Grill finder.
In our assessment the Nexos suits occasional grillers who want to try a kettle grill without spending much, and anyone looking for a second grill for small groups.
It is the wrong choice for tenants whose house rules ban charcoal, and that applies to every charcoal grill. For that case the guide names electric grills as usually the least conflict-prone choice in multi-family buildings.
