The Weber Compact Kettle 47 is a charcoal kettle grill with a 47 cm diameter, which Weber offers only in black. We have not handled it and have not grilled anything on it. This text sets data side by side: Weber’s product and warranty pages (retrieved on 06.10.2026), the Amazon catalogue and the data sheets of our own reviews. Our own calculations and assessments are marked as such, and what Weber does not state is collected in the section “What Weber does not state”.
Under our ASIN, Amazon lists the “Weber Compact Kettle charcoal grill 47 cm with stand and wheels” with model number 1502054. The Compact Kettle charcoal grill Ø 47 cm on weber.com/DE carries the same number. Because Weber’s pages do not link to Amazon, the match rests solely on Amazon’s data field.
On Amazon the grill cost approx. €79 on 06.10.2026. Weber charges €99.99 for the same item including VAT, plus shipping (weber.com/DE, retrieved on 06.10.2026). Among the ten entries that weber.com/DE lists under Kettle, it is therefore the cheapest (our own analysis from the same day); the most expensive is the Original Kettle Premium 57 at €249.00.
Bowl, grate and frame
Bowl and lid are porcelain-enamelled: a glass-like layer has been fused onto the base metal at high temperature. Weber calls the enamel resistant to rust, flaking and scratches, and heat-retaining.
According to the product details, the grate is made of coated steel. The equipment also includes a charcoal grate on which the charcoal sits and a mesh base. In the product photo, that is presumably the triangular wire mesh between the legs. Under the bowl sits a flat metal tray. We assign it to the ash catcher, which according to Weber protects the patio or ground.
A lid hook hangs the lid on the bowl while grilling. According to Weber, the lid and bowl handles are heat-resistant, and the detail table lists two handles made of glass-fibre-reinforced nylon.
The frame consists of three rust-resistant aluminium legs and two all-weather wheels, which Weber calls durable. In the photo, the wheels sit on two of the three legs, while the third stands on a foot. In our reading of the photo, you have to tilt the grill to roll it.
With the lid closed, the grill measures 88 cm in height, 47 cm in width and 54 cm in depth according to Weber, and 73.5 x 47 x 63 cm with it open. Open, it is therefore 14.5 cm lower and 9 cm deeper (our own calculation). The Amazon catalogue gives the same dimensions as Weber for the closed state, in inches.
Air, charcoal and the two zones
A kettle grill controls its heat through air. Oxygen flows to the charcoal through the openings in the bowl, and hot air escapes through the lid. The further you close the openings, the weaker the embers burn, and if all are closed, they go out. In the photo, a vent plate with openings can be seen on top of the lid. Weber writes that you regulate the temperature via adjustable vents on the bowl and lid, and lists a rust-resistant aluminium vent in the detail table.
Two zones arise like this: if the charcoal lies under the food, you grill directly, with plenty of heat from below and short cooking times. If you pile it on one side and place the food next to it, it cooks indirectly with the lid closed, through the hot air circulating in the bowl, similar to an oven. Our guide to direct and indirect heat explains the rules for both.
Weber’s description speaks of searing close to the charcoal. Our conclusion from the design: without a hinged grate, for long cooking times you generally have to lift off the whole grate along with the food to add charcoal.
A note on the grate from general physics: heat storage depends on mass. A cast iron grate is usually much heavier than a steel grate, so it stores more heat and loses less temperature after cold food is placed on it. With a coated steel grate like this one, the difference depends on the material thickness.
Is the area enough for four to six people?
According to Weber, yes: 1,548 cm² of cooking area, room for 9 burgers and for 4 to 6 people. The Amazon catalogue adopts the number of people.
We take the area from Weber and do not derive it from the outer dimensions, because overall dimensions include handles.
Our assessment: it gets tighter with zones. If you put the charcoal on one side, the food for indirect cooking lies only over the charcoal-free part, and we assume that Weber’s burger count applies to the whole area.
According to Weber, the Compact Kettle 57 (item 1502061) has 2,342 cm², room for 13 burgers and for 6 to 8 people. That is 794 cm² more, a good half more (our own calculation). On the manufacturer’s site it costs €149.99, so €50 more than the 47. At six people, both figures overlap: the 47 is then at Weber’s upper limit, the 57 at its lower limit.
Extra equipment on the Bar-B-Kettle 47 and Original Kettle 47
The area stays the same on the two sister models, 1,548 cm² each, as on the Compact Kettle 47. The equipment grows. The Bar-B-Kettle 47 (item 1502055) costs €109.99 at Weber, €10 more. In return it has a built-in lid thermometer, a lid vent and three vent openings on the bowl, which Weber counts as four aluminium vents in the detail table, and two utensil holders on the bowl handle. Weber lists an ash catcher for the Compact Kettle 47 as for the Bar-B-Kettle 47.
The Original Kettle 47 (item 1502192) costs €129.99, €30 more than the Compact Kettle 47, and brings the One-Touch cleaning system, which according to Weber sweeps the ash into the collection container. It also has a lid thermometer and two utensil holders. Both sister models measure 91 x 47 x 56 cm with the lid closed, so by Weber’s dimensions they are 3 cm taller and 2 cm deeper than the Compact Kettle 47 (our own calculation).
Our assessment: the thermometer affects every grilling session, the One-Touch system only the emptying. The utensil holders are a bonus.
Accessories and running costs
The grill comes with purchases that Weber lists as separate items. On the product page, the manufacturer shows a cover for €34.99, and the Rapidfire 3 in 1 lighting set with chimney starter, 2 kg of briquettes and 3 firelighter cubes costs €29.99 at Weber.
With Weber’s list prices you arrive at €164.97 (99.99 + 34.99 + 29.99, our own calculation), excluding shipping and excluding charcoal beyond the 2 kg of briquettes. If you use the Amazon price of approx. €79, it comes to around €144.
If you want to control the temperature, you need a device of your own without a lid thermometer. Which designs exist and where they reach their limits is covered in the guide grill thermometers. The question of charcoal or briquettes, which is part of the ongoing fuel, is answered by our guide charcoal or briquettes.
Placement, safety and warranty
Weber lists these warning and safety notes on the product page, given here in full: Use outdoors only. Read the manual before use. Warning: exposed parts can become very hot. Keep children away. Do not use methylated spirits or petrol to light or relight. Risk of carbon monoxide poisoning: do not operate the grill in enclosed spaces, only outdoors.
We did not find the manual that Weber recommends reading for item 1502054 on weber.com, nor minimum distances to combustible materials and buildings or a balcony approval. The only assembly instruction under Compact Kettle in Weber’s instructions overview dates from 2012/2013 and belongs to the earlier Compact Kettle series (47 and 57 cm). We take nothing from it.
Whether charcoal is allowed on your balcony is governed by your tenancy agreement and house rules; our guide grilling on a balcony summarises the legal situation. In general, for every charcoal grill, regardless of manufacturer: embers and flying sparks endanger combustible balcony screens and awnings, and the smoke drifts to the neighbours. A garage with the door closed is an enclosed space within the meaning of Weber’s carbon monoxide notice (our classification). For the ash, the general rule is: dispose of it only when everything has cooled down completely, because embers can still be hidden in it.
Weber’s voluntary warranty applies, as far as legally permissible, only to the first buyer (exception: gift or promotional offer) and is graded by component. Of Weber’s table for charcoal grills, three rows concern this grill: bowl and lid have 10 years against rust-through or burn-through, plastic components 5 years (excluding fading and discolouration), all other parts 2 years.
Normal wear and tear is not covered. Weber includes under this cosmetic or other insignificant deteriorations that occur over time, such as surface rust, dents and scratches; Weber’s list ends with “etc.”. Weber counts as substantial defects the rust-through or burn-through of certain components or other damage or malfunctions that make safe or proper use of the grill no longer possible. Our assessment: the ten years on bowl and lid protect against a hole in the bowl or lid, not against rust on the surface.
The statutory warranty remains in place alongside it. Weber gives as an example the two-year warranty in some EU countries, which the voluntary warranty does not restrict. The warranty page names Weber-Stephen Products LLC in Palatine, Illinois, with its international business units; in writing, you contact Weber-Stephen Deutschland GmbH in Ingelheim.

What else comes into question?
| Model | The difference | Price | Our rating | Choose this one if |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Weber Compact Kettle 47 (this one) | 1,548 cm², without lid thermometer and utensil holders | approx. €79 | 8.7 | you control the heat with the vents and use your own thermometer |
| Weber Bar-B-Kettle 47 | Same area, built-in lid thermometer, 2 utensil holders according to Weber | approx. €100 | 8.5 | you want to read the temperature at the lid |
| Weber Compact Kettle 57 | 2,342 instead of 1,548 cm², according to Weber 6 to 8 instead of 4 to 6 people | approx. €102 | 8.4 | you regularly grill for more than six people |
| Napoleon NK22K-LEG-2 | 57 cm with hinged grate inserts for adding charcoal, ACCU-PROBE lid thermometer | approx. €373 | 9.5 | you cook for long periods and set aside more budget for it |
The table is not suited to price gaps: its prices are guide values from the price boxes of our reviews, and the Weber prices from 06.10.2026 (Compact Kettle 47 €99.99, Bar-B-Kettle 47 €109.99, Compact Kettle 57 €149.99) relate to each other differently. The rating is our editorial assessment from manufacturer data, not a measurement result.
When the Compact Kettle 47 suits you and when it does not
It suits you if you grill for up to six people and have 88 x 47 x 54 cm of space in the garden or on the patio (dimensions with the lid closed). It is too small for regular rounds with more than six people; the comparison of the best kettle grills 2026 shows further sizes.
If you want to grill quickly after work during the week, you are better served with gas or electric, because charcoal needs lead time until the charcoal has burned through (our assessment).
