The HOMELUX kettle grill (item number HL-GR3M) is a charcoal kettle grill with a round bowl on a tubular frame: Ø 44 cm grate, two wheels, and a storage rack underneath.
We have not handled it and have not grilled anything on it. We compare data, and the data comes from the manufacturer’s shop (homelux-shop.de, read on 14 October 2026), from the Amazon page for ASIN B0FXPWK7GY (catalogue data and the user manual linked there as a PDF) and from the product photo. Our own calculations and assessments are marked as such in the text.
Manufacturer and model
According to the imprint, the shop is run by HOMELUX GmbH in Berlin, registered at the Charlottenburg district court under HRB 285117 B. The About Us page says the company works directly with producers and saves itself unnecessary middlemen. Which producer makes the grill stays open there. Amazon gives China as the country of origin, a seller statement that the shop does not confirm. According to the Amazon page, the seller is Homelux24, and it ships via Amazon.
We see that the shop page and the Amazon listing mean the same grill from three matches: the shop title is almost word for word the same as the Amazon title, the fire bowl (47 cm) and overall height (81 cm) match the 47 x 81 cm on Amazon, and the shop’s data record lists 5,800 g, while Amazon says 5.8 kg. That the shop address carries “47cm” in the name is only briefly confusing: it refers to the fire bowl.
The title also says “Smoker”. According to the shop, the scope of delivery covers six parts, including neither a smoking insert nor a water pan. The same shop has two models that you should not mix up: a smaller kettle grill with Ø 36 cm (HL-GR4M) and a BBQ Smoker (HL-CG107) of a different design, without the kettle shape.
Construction: bowl, grates, frame
According to HOMELUX, bowl and lid are made of iron with an enamel coating. By the manufacturer’s statement the wall has three layers, a solid iron core enamelled on both sides, and the coating withstands temperatures up to 400 °C without flaking. That figure gives the enamel’s load limit; it does not follow how hot the grill gets in use. At 5.8 kg according to the Amazon catalogue, the grill is light. Spread across bowl, lid, two grates, frame and storage rack, little material is left for thick walls. That is our inference from the weight; no source gives a wall thickness.
Enamel is glass fused onto the metal. As long as the layer is intact, it protects the iron beneath; where it chips off, the iron is exposed and can rust. That is how enamel behaves in general; whether it happens here, we do not know. It is not a unique feature among kettle grills: the Amazon listing for the Nexos kettle grill mentions an enamelled body, and that for the SunJas an enamel coating.
The cooking grate is Ø 44 cm with side handles for lifting it out. On the material, the sources contradict each other: the shop writes “thickened food-safe stainless steel”, the Amazon text “chrome-plated grill grate”. Those are two different materials. Chrome-plated means steel with a thin chrome layer, while stainless steel is a rust-resistant alloy all the way through. Which statement is right, we do not know, so both appear in our data table.
In the product photo, the domed lid carries a handle on top and a round metal disc with cut-outs that looks like a vent slider; it is not labelled. A handle sits on the left and right of the bowl. HOMELUX mentions heat-insulated handles on the lid and on the side elements. According to the shop, a hook on the inside of the lid lets you hang the lid on the grill body, where it can serve as a windshield.
Below the bowl, between the legs, sits a flat, round grey tray. We read it as an ash catcher tray. The Amazon text speaks of a “slide-in ash catcher”, the shop of an “integrated ash catcher” and, in the scope of delivery, of an ash catcher tray. A drawer in the sense of “slide-in” cannot be made out in the photo.
In the photo, the frame consists of four silvery tubular legs, with wheels on two of them. Between them lies a storage rack, which according to the manufacturer is for accessories or charcoal. The shop’s delivery list does not show the legs as a separate item. The parts list in the manual (PDF on the Amazon page) names four leg tubes and two wheels, and they can be seen in the photo.
The shop’s delivery list, in full: an enamelled grill body made of fire bowl and lid, a stainless steel cooking grate, a charcoal grate, an ash catcher tray, a base storage rack, two transport wheels. A manual and a cover are not included. The dimensions according to the shop: overall height 81 cm, fire bowl 47 cm wide. Amazon gives 18.5 x 18.5 x 31.9 inches, converted roughly 47 x 47 x 81 cm, in black.
In detail: air, distance and adding charcoal
HOMELUX calls the airflow “double ventilation”: adjustable vents in the lid and in the lower section, with which the oxygen supply can be controlled without lifting the lid. That is the usual kettle grill principle. Air flows to the charcoal at the bottom and escapes at the top, and the less flows through, the less glow. If both vents are closed, the charcoal goes out.
According to the manufacturer, there are 35 cm between the charcoal grate and the cooking grate. The photo cannot confirm that, because the charcoal grate cannot be seen in it. As a general rule: the closer the food is to the embers, the more radiant heat reaches it, and when fat drips into the charcoal, the flames rise higher. A larger distance dampens both.
The grill has one cooking grate, and the delivery list includes neither a diffuser nor a charcoal basket. Zones therefore only come from how you pile the charcoal: charcoal on one side, food on the other. That works on any kettle grill with a lid; HOMELUX has neither provided for it nor described it for this one. Our guide Using direct vs. indirect heat correctly explains how the heat zones work.
To add charcoal, you lift the grate off by its handles, as the Amazon text says. A hatch or a split grate is not mentioned in our sources, so the food has to come off the grate first or gets lifted with it. For short grilling that hardly matters, for cooking over several hours it does, because a charge eventually burns down.
A lid thermometer appears neither in the equipment list nor in the scope of delivery nor in the Amazon texts. Without a display, you regulate by feel or retrofit one. Two devices need to be told apart here: an oven or lid thermometer shows the air temperature in the bowl, a probe thermometer the core temperature in the meat. Our guide Grill thermometers: probe, wireless or cable-free? compares the available types. For poultry and roasts, the second reading is what counts.
Is the grate enough for four people?
Comfortable for two people, tight for four. That is how we estimate it from the grate size; HOMELUX gives no number of people. The grate is Ø 44 cm, which works out to roughly 1,520 cm² (circle formula, our calculation; the usable area is smaller).
For context, the areas of two alternatives. For the Napoleon NK22K-LEG-2, the Amazon catalogue gives a cooking area of 2,340 cm², and the HOMELUX reaches just under two thirds of that. The Nexos with Ø 41.5 cm comes to roughly 1,350 cm² by the same calculation. If you pile the charcoal on one side for indirect cooking, roughly 760 cm² are left for the food by calculation.
A warming rack is not part of the scope of delivery. Finished food therefore has no place away from the embers, except on the charcoal-free half of the grate. With four people in two rounds, the first plate is already on the table while the second portion is still on the grate.
Safety and care: what the manual does not say
The shop lists no manual and links none. The Amazon page links a three-page assembly sheet (PDF) with a parts list and drawings, with no text on safety, care or temperatures. Safety notes from HOMELUX on this grill are therefore missing, with one exception: the product page of the BBQ Smoker HL-CG107 says HOMELUX charcoal grills are intended exclusively for outdoor use. Because the sentence is worded for all of the brand’s charcoal grills, we treat it as valid for the 44 cm model too. Amazon gives “outdoor area” as the area of use.
Everything else in this section applies to charcoal grills in general; HOMELUX does not prescribe it. Burning charcoal produces carbon monoxide, an odourless, toxic gas. A charcoal grill therefore never belongs in closed or half-closed rooms, not even in a garage, a tent or a covered loggia with little air exchange. To light it, use firelighters, not methylated spirits or petrol. Only move the grill once it has cooled down completely.
Ash can hold embers for a long time. We would therefore only empty the ash tray once everything has cooled down completely, and store the ash in a non-combustible container; how the tray can be removed, HOMELUX does not describe. The same goes for cleaning: there is no specification for either the enamel or the grate, and nothing is said about the dishwasher either. For the grate, the answer depends on the material, and that is contradictory in the sources; for rust spots, the guide Grill rusting: what to do? helps. On the enamel, without a manufacturer statement, we would not use a wire brush or abrasive cleaners.
Price, warranty and what comes on top
Our price box lists the grill at approx. €44. Prices change; what counts is what the seller shows you on the day you buy. On top of the grill price come items that are not on the delivery list: charcoal, firelighters, a probe thermometer and a cover. Which charcoal is suitable is covered by the guide Lump charcoal or briquettes. We have no documented prices for these items; add them yourself before weighing grills against each other.
HOMELUX’s warranty page applies to defects in material and workmanship. According to the page, duration and conditions can vary by product, and the warranty period starts on the date of purchase. Which duration applies to this grill stays open: a banner on the About Us page speaks of two years, and the warranty entry in the Amazon catalogue consists only of a “1.” without a unit. Regardless of any warranty, the statutory warranty rights apply when you buy as a consumer. Exclusions, contact and handling are in the FAQ.

What else is worth considering?
| Model | The difference | Price | Our rating | Choose this one if |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| HOMELUX 44 cm kettle grill (this one) | Grate Ø 44 cm, two wheels, no lid thermometer in the manufacturer’s list | approx. €44 | 7.8 | you want a small kettle grill with wheels for a few people and buy a thermometer yourself |
| Nexos 41.5 cm kettle grill | Integrated thermometer according to the Amazon listing, grate Ø 41.5 cm | approx. €30 | 7.4 | you want to read the temperature and can manage with a grate diameter 2.5 cm smaller |
| SunJas 57 cm charcoal kettle grill | Ø 57 cm according to the Amazon listing, stated there for 5 to 10 people | approx. €60 | 7.8 | you regularly grill for more than four people |
| Napoleon NK22K-LEG-2 | Hinged cooking grates for adding charcoal, heat diffuser and ACCU-PROBE thermometer according to the Amazon listing | approx. €373 | 9.5 | you want to grill for a long time at controlled temperature and have the budget for it |
The prices are guide values from the price boxes of our reviews, and the rating is our editorial assessment, not a measurement result. The details on the three alternatives come from their Amazon listings, not from the manufacturers’ pages; the table is therefore not suited to detailed comparisons. More models are shown in the comparison of the best kettle grills 2026.
When the HOMELUX fits and when another one does
We set the limit on the number of people at four. If you regularly grill for more guests, look at the SunJas 57 cm charcoal kettle grill. According to the Amazon listing it is Ø 57 cm and suitable for 5 to 10 people, a statement by the seller. By our price boxes it costs €16 more than the HOMELUX.
If you want to read the temperature without buying anything extra, take the Nexos. Its Amazon listing mentions an integrated thermometer, it costs €14 less than the HOMELUX, and its grate, at Ø 41.5 cm, is 2.5 cm narrower.
For cooking over hours, the HOMELUX is, in our assessment, only an option with retrofitting. The whole grate has to be lifted to add charcoal, a thermometer is missing, and a diffuser is not on the delivery list. According to the Amazon listing, the Napoleon NK22K-LEG-2 has hinged cooking grates for adding charcoal, an included heat diffuser and the ACCU-PROBE thermometer. According to the price box it costs €329 more and, according to the Amazon catalogue, weighs 58 pounds, roughly 26 kg, against 5.8 kg for the HOMELUX. If you only occasionally grill sausages and chops, then in our assessment you pay with the Napoleon for equipment you do not need.
On a balcony, the tenancy agreement and house rules decide, not the grill. Distances to walls and combustible surfaces, the spread of the legs and the stability are not stated anywhere; the footprint follows from the fire bowl and height in the construction section. The grill is light, but therefore has little mass against wind and knocks, which is how we read the weight. The guide Grilling on a balcony explains the legal position and alternatives; if you first want to work out which type suits your space and fuel, use the Grill Finder.
The HOMELUX is wrong for anyone who wants to read safety and care notes or a warranty period for this model before buying. It suits you if you occasionally grill for two to four people directly over the embers, buy a probe thermometer anyway, and choose a cover yourself later.
