We have not handled the KEYO GRILL 22.5 inch, a charcoal kettle grill with model number PG02, and we have not grilled anything on it. We compare data, and for this device it comes almost entirely from the Amazon listing, read on 14.10.2026: from the bullet points and product data (in the text “according to the Amazon listing”) and from the brand content below them (“according to the brand”). We did not find a manufacturer page for the model or an operating manual to download. Our own calculations and assessments are marked as such.
What is known about the manufacturer and model
Amazon lists ASIN B0GS5L7MYS as model PG02 (item number PG02-01) of the brand KEYO GRILL; the product description speaks of the “KEYO GRILL PG02 Smoker Grill”, the title of a portable charcoal grill and camping kettle grill for garden, shed and patio. There are no colour or size variants under this ASIN, so our buy button points to exactly this device. The product data give China as the country of origin and black with orange accents as the colour.
The brand writes about itself “since 1998”, a self-description without evidence. At keyogrill.com there is the English-language B2B site of Foshan Nanhai Keyo BBQ Industry Co., Ltd from Guangdong, which also gives “Since 1998” as the start of its grill manufacturing, has two plants and offers OEM and ODM manufacturing for customers in Europe and North America. The site lists no products; the PG02 and the consumer brand KEYO GRILL do not appear there. Whether this factory makes the grill is not confirmed by any source we found; a matching year does not prove it.
The “Responsible person” section on the Amazon page did not load for us, so we could not view a company address. In the Amazon.de brand store on 14.10.2026, besides this device we saw only a 29-inch barrel grill with a height-adjustable charcoal tray (ASIN B0GK5CDLSD), a different design and no substitute for the 22.5-inch model; the page loads dynamically, so the list may be incomplete.
Construction: kettle, grate, ash pan and frame
According to the product data the grill is enamelled: the finish is given there as “Enamelled” and the material as metal. Enamel is a glass-like layer fused onto the base metal at high temperature, and it stays smooth as long as it is undamaged. According to the Amazon listing it is high-density, heat-resistant and rust-free and allows odour-free grilling. What “high-density” means in measurable terms, such as layer thickness or porosity, remains unclear, as does whether it is porcelain enamel and whether it covers the kettle, the lid or both.
On the steel: 1.2 mm cold-rolled steel, according to the Amazon listing 0.6 mm thicker than standard grills. The catalogue wording, however, is “inner insert” and so does not expressly refer to the whole kettle. By calculation the comparison value is 0.6 mm; which grills count as standard is not stated. A rule of thumb from mechanics helps with putting this in context: for a flat sheet, bending stiffness grows with the third power of the thickness, so double the thickness means eight times as much. A kettle is not a flat plate, so the factor only shows the direction. Thicker steel generally warps less under heat and stores more heat because there is more mass; whether the KEYO benefits depends on where the 1.2 mm is actually located. The brand also advertises an enamel finish said to withstand 1000 °C, hand polishing of every grill and an advisory service after purchase; whether the 1000 °C refers to a material limit or an operating limit remains unclear.
The grate is split and chrome-plated and, according to the Amazon listing, can be removed so that charcoal can be added. The data do not say how many parts it splits into or what base material and thickness it has. Under the kettle there is, according to the Amazon listing, a square base grid under the heading storage space; it is said to offer 20 Sq In (around 129 cm²) more room than a triangular base grid of the same length and to organise ingredients or fuel. In the photo it corresponds to the square wire bottom shelf between the legs (our attribution).
Under the kettle sits the stainless steel ash pan, which detaches with a twist and, according to the Amazon listing, does not warp even with glowing hot ash. According to the brand it keeps the ash away from the wind, ensures fire safety and cools the ash quickly. That is advertising copy and not an instruction to empty glowing ash; the manufacturer says nowhere whether that is safe. As a general rule with charcoal: ash can hold embers for a long time. We would only empty the pan once everything has cooled down completely.
The side table measures 161 Sq In (around 1,039 cm²) and is foldable and detachable; material and load capacity are missing. In the product photo it is a smooth, black plate that extends beyond the kettle on the right. The lid has a hook for hanging it on the kettle, which according to the brand serves as a wind shield and avoids ground contact. According to the product data the handles are made of plastic and metal; the brand names PP handles that barely conduct heat.
According to the brand the frame has four legs, which are meant to stand more stably than a tripod. The heading in the brand content mentions stainless steel; whether all legs or only parts of the frame are made of it remains unclear. There are also wheels with anti-slip rubber and a storage space under the grill. The photo shows silver-coloured legs, two wheels with tread and a square wire bottom shelf.
In detail: air, charcoal, zones and the lid thermometer
A kettle grill regulates its heat through air. The charcoal gets its oxygen through openings in the lower part of the kettle, and the hot gases escape through an opening in the lid. With both open, the charcoal burns hottest; the further you close them, the less oxygen reaches the embers, and with both closed they suffocate.
According to the Amazon listing the KEYO has an adjustable double vent that is meant to improve heat circulation. Where the two vents sit is not stated. In the photo, the silver-coloured collar above the catch pot shows a row of holes and a slider; that the lower vent sits there is our guess from the image.
With direct heat the charcoal lies under the food. With indirect heat it lies on one or two sides, the food lies over the charcoal-free area, and with the lid closed the heat circulates over it. That suits thick cuts that take a long time without burning on the outside. Our guide to direct and indirect heat explains the zone rules.
Amazon names outdoor use, barbecue, camping, garden parties, indirect grilling, picnics and smoking as recommended areas of use for the KEYO. The listing does not include charcoal baskets, a divider plate or a diffuser in the scope of delivery; only the assembly instructions and the parts for the grill are listed. For two zones you therefore pile the charcoal yourself on one side or on two sides of the base grid (our conclusion).
In the lid there is a stainless steel thermometer for monitoring the cooking temperature. The brand calls it wear-resistant and corrosion-resistant, easy to clean and precise; measuring range, scale and accuracy are missing. A lid thermometer shows the air temperature at its position under the lid, not that at the grate and not that in the meat. Above the embers it can in principle be much hotter at the grate than in the lid dome. Only a probe thermometer in the meat measures the core temperature of a roast; for pulled pork or ribs, which cook for hours at low temperature, we would plan for one. Which designs exist is explained in the guide Grill thermometers: probe, wireless or cable-free?.
How many people does the grilling area suit?
The product description names 5 to 7 people and does the sums: 12 to 14 burger patties, 6 to 7 rump steaks, 21 to 25 hot dogs or 8 to 10 chicken breast fillets fit on the grate at once, whose area is 348 Sq In, converted 2,245 cm².
For scale: the Weber Bar-B-Kettle 57 has 2,342 cm² according to Weber and room for 13 burgers, the Enders Caldera Pro 57 2,290 cm² according to the Enders catalogue. The KEYO is therefore around 2 to 4 percent below (our own calculation), and for burgers the numbers match: 12 to 14 against 13. The three grills differ little in area; the choice is decided elsewhere.
For indirect cooking only the part of the grate over the charcoal-free zone is available to you, and the example figures in the description allow only limited planning for that (our assessment).
Can the KEYO go in the shed or on the balcony?
Not in a closed shed: the Amazon product data name only outdoor use, and the BfR (German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment) warns against grilling with charcoal in enclosed spaces. On the balcony, the tenancy agreement and house rules decide, not the grill.
The Amazon title lists the shed as a place of use. It does not appear in the BfR text, but by our conclusion a closed shed falls under “enclosed spaces”. The reason is carbon monoxide: it forms when charcoal burns and smoulders incompletely, and it is odourless, so you do not notice it. According to the BfR there is danger even with the garage door open. The BfR cites a measurement by the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM) from 2013: in a chamber of 19 cubic metres, 800 g of charcoal produced 3,000 ppm of carbon monoxide after two hours, a concentration that according to the BfR would lead to unconsciousness within a few minutes.
The manufacturer gives no set-up instructions online, nor details on minimum distances from combustible materials or on balcony and roof use; according to the product data an assembly manual is included, but we do not know it. For the space it needs, the catalogue gives 65.5 cm depth, 86.5 cm width and 102.5 cm height as outer dimensions. Whether the side table is counted folded or unfolded is stated nowhere; in the photo it extends far beyond the kettle when unfolded, and we would plan the width with the table unfolded.
For the legal situation and alternatives there is the guide Grilling on a balcony. Embers and flying sparks endanger awnings and cladding made of wood or plastic with any charcoal grill, and the smoke drifts to the neighbours.

What else is worth considering?
| Model | The difference | Price | Our score | Choose this one if |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| KEYO GRILL 22.5 inch (PG02) (this one) | Split, removable chrome-plated grate for adding charcoal; stainless steel ash pan that detaches with a twist | approx. €111 | 8.1 | you want to spend little and can live with Amazon details instead of manufacturer documents |
| Weber Bar-B-Kettle 57 | Kettle and lid porcelain-enamelled, warranty graded by component (Weber table) | approx. €129 | 8.7 | you want to read a manufacturer’s warranty period for kettle and lid |
| Enders Caldera Pro 57 | Two charcoal baskets included according to Enders, stainless steel grate with SWITCH GRID for inserts | approx. €129 | 8.8 | you want to put charcoal in baskets on one side from the start |
| Napoleon NK22K-LEG-2 | Porcelain-enamelled kettle, grate inserts that fold on both sides for adding charcoal (Napoleon manual) | approx. €373 | 9.5 | you want to spend more and read the manual and warranty terms before buying |
The prices are guide values from the price boxes of our reviews, not manufacturer prices, and the score is our editorial assessment, not a measurement result. The KEYO row relies on the Amazon listing, the other three on manufacturer pages and documents. More models are shown in the comparison of the best kettle grills 2026.
When the KEYO fits and when another one does
On area, switching is not worthwhile; KEYO, Weber and Enders are close together (figures above). If you regularly grill for more than seven people, then in our assessment you need a bigger grill rather than another 57.
Zones are the first real difference. If you want to separate direct and indirect heat from the first evening, you are better off with the Enders Caldera Pro 57: two charcoal baskets are included there according to Enders, while the KEYO listing names none. The Enders costs approx. €129, the KEYO at Amazon approx. €111, a gap of approx. €18.
If you cook for hours at low temperature, you add charcoal in between. For this the KEYO listing names the removable, split grate; with the Napoleon NK22K-LEG-2 the grate inserts fold on both sides according to the Napoleon manual. Whether one grate half of the KEYO can be lifted while food lies on the other is not clear from the listing.
If you want to read documents before you buy, the KEYO offers little: no operating manual, no warranty terms, no parts list. Napoleon has published a manual with warranty terms for the NK22K-LEG-2 (edition 03.21; according to our records of 24.09.2026 the model was no longer in the German Napoleon range), and Weber names ten years against rust-through and burn-through for the kettle and lid of the Bar-B-Kettle 57. At approx. €373 the Napoleon is around €248 more expensive than the KEYO. The Weber Bar-B-Kettle 57 costs approx. €129, which is around €4 more.
On top of the grill price come things not listed in the scope of delivery: cover, chimney starter, charcoal and a probe thermometer. Our data supply no prices for these; add them before you weigh models against each other.
Who is it suited to?
For beginners with an outdoor space who want a kettle grill with a side table for little money and learn lighting, charcoal quantity and care from general sources. For the choice of charcoal there is our guide Lump charcoal or briquettes; if you only have a balcony or patio, narrow it down with the Grill finder by fuel, budget, place of use and number of people.
The KEYO is wrong for anyone who expects a smoker oven because of the word Smoker in the title. It is a kettle grill with a lid, and Amazon names smoking as one of seven recommended uses. The listing gives no temperature range or burn time for hours of smoking.
