The Enders San Diego Next 3 is our budget pick among gas grills: for around €137 you get three stainless steel burners with 6.75 kW, a 1,650 cm² stainless steel grate, a lid thermometer, a regulator with hose rupture protection and a three-year warranty after registration. The gas bottle stands next to the grill, and Enders does not offer a manual to download. If you need a side burner or a bottle compartment in the cart, look at the higher-priced Enders series.

According to our price box, the Enders San Diego Next 3 costs approx. €137, which makes it one of the cheaper complete 3-burner gas grill carts in our comparison. Enders names small patios and mini balconies as the place of use; the gas bottle stands next to the grill, and the three-year manufacturer warranty applies only after registration.

The San Diego Next 3 is an open gas grill cart with three stainless steel burners, a lid and two fixed side shelves. It comes from Enders Colsman AG, which dates itself to 1883 on its website and develops its grills in Werdohl. Enders lists it under item number 80166, and the same number appears in the Amazon catalogue next to the ASIN we link to. In our gas grill category it sits among the carts with three burners. According to our price box it costs approx. €137 (Amazon page on 21.10.2026: €137.45). The RRP on the Enders page is €179.00.

We have not handled the grill and have not grilled anything on it. Our sources are the Enders product page with the technical data, the Enders 2026 catalogue (pages 44 to 47), the Enders warranty terms, the Amazon catalogue and the product photo. Enders does not provide an instruction manual for the Next 3 to download, and a search turned up none either. This mainly affects the sections on gas and safety. Scores are marked as ours.

Lid, burners, grates: what Enders builds in

The photo shows a narrow cart. On top sits the black lid with a long light-coloured handle and a round thermometer in the middle, and below it the control panel with three knobs. The two side shelves stick out to the left and right. The frame is open: between the legs there is a wall of perforated sheet metal, the bottom shelf lies at the base, the wheels are on the left, and two legs stand on the right. The cart has no cabinet with doors.

The three burners are stainless steel and deliver 2.25 kW each, 6.75 kW in total. According to the Amazon catalogue they can be regulated continuously, and according to Enders they are designed for direct and indirect grilling. Ignition is by a battery-free piezo igniter built into the control knob. Flame covers sit over the burners; Enders writes that they protect the burners and optimise heat distribution. In the catalogue, this line shows only the abbreviation FAL.

The grill grate is stainless steel and has three sections. Enders gives its area as 50.5 × 33 cm and 1,650 cm². If you multiply the two dimensions, you get 1,666.5 cm², so one of the values is rounded or adjusted for an edge; which one cannot be told from the outside. For the comparison below we use the 1,650 cm², because Enders states it as the area. Above it hangs a stainless steel warming rack, 45 × 14.5 cm (652.5 cm²), which swings along when you open and close the lid.

The lid, firebox and side shelves are made of powder-coated steel, and Enders names the colour as matt black. There is also a removable grease drawer with a grease collection tray.

Assembled, the grill measures W 102 × D 52 × H 97 cm, the working height is 81 cm and the weight is 17 kg. The 102 cm is the casing including the shelves, not the body. Because the catalogue notes “abklappbar: 0” (folding: 0) for both shelves, this is also the width you have to keep permanently free, even when the grill is not in use.

In detail: what 6.75 kW on 1,650 cm² means

A kilowatt figure on its own says little, because a large grate needs more heat than a small one. If you divide the burner output by the grilling area, you get a rough comparison figure. For the Next 3 that is around 4.1 W/cm² (6,750 W divided by 1,650 cm²).

Within its own range, that puts it at the back. According to Enders, the San Diego Next 4 has four burners of 2.25 kW each, so 9 kW, on 1,980 cm²; that is around 4.5 W/cm². The reason lies in the split: on the Next 4, each burner has 495 cm² of grate by calculation, while on the Next 3 it is 550 cm². The same burner type therefore has to serve more area on the Next 3. The Chicago Next 4 R Turbo, with 13 kW on 2,982 cm², comes to around 4.4 W/cm², and the Broil King Regal 590, with 16 kW of main burner output on 4,032 cm², to just under 4.0 W/cm².

What the figure does not capture: how tightly the lid closes, how much heat the grate and firebox store, and how much of it the wind carries away at the grilling spot. Broil King, for example, uses enamelled cast iron grates, which store heat differently from a stainless steel grate. Our assessment: the gap of 0.4 W/cm² to the Next 4 is not a reason to buy on its own. But it does explain why the Next 3, with the same number of burners as many competitors, ends up with a rather small power budget; the LEADZM in the table below has 10.5 kW with three burners.

Three separate burners are the basis for indirect grilling. As a general rule it works like this: you light one or two burners, place the food over the one that stays off, and close the lid so the heat circulates beneath it. If you divide the area evenly, the Next 3 leaves a strip of around 550 cm² as an indirect zone. That is enough for a roast or a chicken, but not for several large pieces side by side.

The thermometer sits in the lid. A lid thermometer generally measures the air at the top under the lid and not the heat at the grate, which for direct grilling is usually considerably higher. For indirect cooking the reading is a usable guide. For the food itself, we would add a probe thermometer.

Where does the gas bottle go on the San Diego Next 3?

Next to the grill. In the line “Gasflasche verstaubar” (gas bottle can be stowed), the Enders 2026 catalogue puts a dash for the Next 3, whereas for the San Diego Next 4 it says “5 kg”. So the bottle stands free, and the hose has to reach from the regulator to the connection on the grill.

According to Enders, the box contains a gas pressure regulator for 50 mbar with integrated hose rupture protection (EFV) and a hose. The hose rupture protection is a valve that blocks the gas flow when much more gas suddenly flows than intended, for example because a hose tears off. For your first grilling evening you therefore only need the bottle with a fill. How 5 kg and 11 kg bottles differ and where you swap them is explained in our guide Gas bottle for the grill.

Whether the large bottom shelf may carry a bottle cannot be read from any source. We would not put one there unless Enders expressly approves it.

Accessories and running costs

For the Next 3, the catalogue lists its own cast iron grate from the Switch Grid range, item number 7809. The range also includes inserts with the numbers 7790, 7791 and 7792 and a wok (7797); the product page also lists a pizza stone and a Sear Grate as matching accessories. What a cast iron grate changes: cast iron stores more heat than a stainless steel grate and transfers it to the food at the contact surfaces, but it needs to be seasoned and protected from moisture. We have no price for the 7809 in our sources.

For gas costs, the basis for a calculation is missing. Without consumption in grams per hour, it is not possible to say how long a 5 kg bottle lasts on the Next 3, and an estimate from the kilowatt figure would be our number, not Enders’.

Three years of warranty, but only with registration

For the San Diego Next series, Enders grants a voluntary manufacturer warranty which, according to the warranty terms, supplements the statutory warranty and does not restrict it. Three years apply to the lid unit, firebox unit, stainless steel burners, grate, warming rack, grease drawer and plastic parts. All other parts have two years. For the items marked with an asterisk, the warranty refers, according to the footnote, to rust-through or burn-through.

It only takes effect once you register the grill within three months of purchase. It applies to the first buyer, only in Europe and only for privately used products; grills in commercial use or in shared facilities are excluded. Liability extends at most to the original purchase price.

The terms exclude four cases:

  • normal wear such as rust formation, fading of colour, scratches or dents that do not impair function
  • damage from improper use, improper assembly, misuse or neglected preventive maintenance
  • damage from extreme weather conditions, salty air, chlorine sources, acid rain or other environmental influences
  • damage from non-original parts, unauthorised repairs and modifications

For the second point, the terms refer to the instruction manual for maintenance (“siehe BA”, see manual), which is exactly the document that is missing online. If a printed manual is in the box, keep it. And if you grill on the coast or next to a pool, you should know the third point before you leave the grill outside all year.

Cleaning and safety while the manual is missing

On cleaning, the product page says two things: the multi-section grate is easy to remove and clean, and the grease drawer can be pulled out. On cleaning agents, dishwasher or wire brush, we found nothing in writing from Enders for this model. How to keep burners, grates and the grease drawer clean on a gas grill in general is covered in the guide Cleaning a gas grill.

What applies to gas grills in general and is not an Enders requirement: it is operated outdoors. It is lit with the lid open. After every bottle change, you check the connections between bottle, regulator and hose with leak detection spray, and if the burner does not catch after lighting, you turn off the gas and wait until the gas has dispersed before you try again.

If a printed manual comes with the grill, its instructions take precedence over these general points; we do not know what distances it specifies. Read it before you connect the bottle for the first time. If a burner does not light at all, the guide Gas grill will not light helps you narrow down the cause.

What Enders does not state about the San Diego Next 3

The product page, the 2026 catalogue, the warranty terms and the Amazon listing lack:

  • an instruction manual to download, and with it every manufacturer requirement on setup, minimum distances, balcony use, gas connection, leak testing, intended use, cleaning and maintenance
  • the gas type (propane, butane or both) and the consumption in g/h
  • the permitted bottle size and the place where the bottle stands
  • the length of the hose
  • material thicknesses of the lid, firebox and grate
  • the material of the flame covers and the meaning of the abbreviation FAL
  • the material of the frame and bottom shelf
  • the scale of the lid thermometer
  • a number of people for the grilling area
  • country of origin and market year
  • packaging dimensions and assembly time
  • suitability for camping and transport (the word camping appears only in the Amazon title)

The prices are guide values from the price boxes of our reviews and change; the score is our editorial assessment and not a measurement result. Behind our Enders Chicago Next entry, according to the Amazon catalogue, is item number 89366, the Chicago Next 4 R Turbo; the technical details in the row come from its Enders page.

When the San Diego Next 3 fits and when another one does

The first fork is space. The Next 3 needs 102 × 52 cm with fixed shelves, and the bottle stands next to it. Enders itself names small patios and mini balconies as the place of use. Whether you may grill with gas on your balcony is decided by your tenancy agreement and house rules; what is usually regulated is summarised in the guide Grilling on a balcony. Measure the corner, including the space for the bottle, before you order.

The second fork is the bottle. If it is meant to disappear inside the cart, the Next 3 is the wrong choice. The LEADZM with 10.5 kW has a base cabinet for it according to the Amazon catalogue and costs approx. €150 in our price box, against approx. €137 for the Enders. Within its own range, the alternative would be the San Diego Next 4: according to Enders, its 5 kg bottle may stay in the base cabinet during operation, it is 112 cm wide and weighs 21 kg. Its RRP is €199, €20 above that of the Next 3. We do not have a separate review of the Next 4.

The third is the size of the group. No Enders source gives a number of people. Our assessment: if you grill several times a month for six or more people, you will notice the 1,650 cm² sooner than the 6.75 kW. The Enders Chicago Next has around 81 percent more grate at 2,982 cm² and costs approx. €300 in our price box, against approx. €137 for the Next 3.

On budget, it helps that the regulator and hose are already in the box. Add the bottle and fill, and if you leave the grill outside, plan for a cover (details in the questions below).

We would not buy the Next 3 if you need a side burner, because none can be seen in the photo or the data, or if you must have the bottle inside the cart for reasons of space or looks. For two to four people on a patio who grill directly and occasionally indirectly and can live with a free-standing bottle, we would recommend it, mainly because of the three-year warranty on burners and firebox. It is not the cheapest three-burner grill in our category: the Outsunny Gasgrill 3 Brenner 7,5 kW is at approx. €125 in our price box, the Enders at approx. €137. If you are still undecided between designs, the Grill finder narrows down the choice.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about Enders San Diego Next 3

Short, clear answers about buying, using and caring for Enders San Diego Next 3.

Where does the gas bottle go if it does not fit in the cart?

Next to the grill, because the Enders catalogue does not provide a bottle space in the base of the Next 3. If you do not want to leave the bottle standing uncovered, the Enders product page offers the Style gas bottle cover for 5 kg at €14.99 and for 11 kg at €17.99 (item numbers 5115 and 5117). The cover does not change the fact that the bottle stands free: a stable, level spot away from walkways is therefore part of your planning.

Which cover fits the San Diego Next 3?

The Premium weather protection cover with item number 5690, which the Enders 2026 catalogue lists specifically for the Next 3. On the product page it is called Premium Wetterschutzhülle San Diego 2+3, so the name covers both models, and it costs €34.95 there. With the cover at the product page price you come to around €172, not including the bottle and gas fill. As a general rule, the cover goes on only once the grill has cooled down.

What do I need if I want to make a warranty claim?

The original proof of purchase, photos of the defect and the serial number of the grill, as stated in the Enders warranty terms. You report the case via the Enders service page. Enders decides whether the item is repaired or replaced, and shipping costs are reimbursed if the defect is covered by the warranty. We would note the serial number straight away during assembly and keep the receipt with the documents you use to register the grill.

How does the San Diego Next 3 differ from the smaller Next 2?

According to Enders, the Next 2 has two burners of 2.8 kW each, 5.6 kW in total, and 1,237.5 cm² of grilling area. It is 89.5 cm wide and weighs 14.5 kg, and its RRP is €149, which is €30 below that of the Next 3. On a balcony it saves 12.5 cm of width. With three burners, on the other hand, you can light the two outer ones and cook indirectly in the middle, whereas with two burners only one side is left for that.

How heavy is the grill, and how do you move it?

Enders gives 17 kg, the Amazon catalogue 39.68 pounds, which converts to around 18.0 kg. Where the one kilogram difference comes from, packaging, accessories or rounding, cannot be read from either source; we go with the manufacturer's figure. According to the catalogue the cart has two outdoor wheels; in the photo they are on the left, with two legs on the right. To move it, you lift the right side and roll it on the wheels.

Can I get spare parts for the San Diego Next 3?

Enders runs its own spare parts shop on its website. We have not checked whether parts are listed there for item number 80166; searching with this number is the quickest way. For a part replaced under warranty, the warranty terms say that only the remaining time of the original warranty applies. So the period does not start afresh with the new part; it keeps running from the date you bought the grill.

Does the San Diego Next 3 have a zone for searing?

No, all three burners have the same 2.25 kW, and an infrared or turbo zone is not part of the equipment. Enders also does not state a maximum temperature or heat-up time for the model. For comparison, Enders advertises an 800 °C turbo zone with 4 kW and infrared mesh on the Chicago Next 4 R Turbo. If you mainly want to sear steaks, you will find the suitable technology there, or you can retrofit the cast iron grate from the accessories on the Next 3.
