Which grill is behind this listing?
The name and the appliance do not match here. Amazon sells the listing as “Rock’nGrill 1500 Rapid” and puts 750 W in the same title. The model number in the catalogue is 03011. Under that number, Cecotec lists the Rock’nGrill 750 Full Open on its Spanish website, and its manual also gives 750 W. The real Rock’nGrill 1500 Rapid exists too, with its own reference number, 1500 W and plates of 24.5 x 17.3 cm.
So we describe the appliance that the model number belongs to and simply call it the Rock’nGrill in the text.
Cecotec describes it as a panini grill, electric grill, grill plate and sandwich maker in one. In our overview of electric grills, it counts as a contact grill of the smallest class: two coated plates on a hinge, plus two indicator lights. At approx. €27 (Amazon page on 20.10.2026: €26.90) it is the cheapest appliance in our table further down. According to the manual, it is made in China and was designed by Cecotec Innovaciones in Valencia.
Plates, housing and the two lights
According to Cecotec, each of the two plates measures 23 x 14.5 cm, which by our calculation is a good 333 cm². The surface is ribbed, clearly visible in the product photo, and coated with RockStone. That is what Cecotec calls its ceramic stone coating; according to the manufacturer, it is free of PTFE, PFOA and other toxic substances.
The upper plate hangs in a floating system that, according to the manufacturer’s site, is meant to adapt to any food. We read it like this: the hinge gives way when a thicker sandwich sits between the plates, and the plate still lies flat. With the 180-degree opening lever you fold the grill completely flat. According to the manual, the lower and upper plates then form a single large cooking surface, together roughly 667 cm², on which you can cook different foods side by side without the flavours mixing.
According to the manual, the outer housing is stainless steel, as is the cool-touch handle. In the photo, it runs as a bar across the whole front edge. For closing, the manual lists a manual lock, while the manufacturer’s site describes a clip that holds the grill shut so you can store it upright, with the cable in the cable compartment. The base is non-slip.
There is no control panel. On top there is a red power light and a green indicator light. According to the manual, both are lit after switching on, and you preheat until the green one goes out. The manufacturer’s site words it differently: a temperature sensor signals with a red light that the plate is hot enough. For everyday use both come down to the same thing, and we follow the manual. The grill is connected to 220 to 240 V and 50/60 Hz.
In detail: 750 watts without a control
A contact grill clamps the food between two hot surfaces and cooks it from above and below at the same time, so you do not need to turn it. That the upper plate also heats on the Rock’nGrill follows from the manual, since when opened out it serves as a second cooking surface.
More interesting than the bare wattage is how it is distributed. Closed, 750 W sit on a food contact area of a good 333 cm², which is roughly 2.2 W per square centimetre. The real 1500 Rapid delivers 1500 W on roughly 424 cm², so a good 3.5 W, and the Aigostar Hett Pro from our catalogue 1500 W on 27 x 17 cm, so roughly 3.3 W. We calculated all three values ourselves.
What this figure tells you: if you put a cold piece of meat on, it draws heat from the plate, and the heating has to make it up. With fewer watts per area, this reheating takes longer. The calculation says nothing about the maximum temperature, which is determined by the sensor.
You cannot adjust anything. For the Rock’nGrill, Cecotec mentions only the temperature sensor with its light, with no control or settings. If you want to choose how hot it gets, you find that at Cecotec itself only one class higher: the Rock’n Grill 1500 (reference 03024) has 1500 W, a temperature control, also 180 degrees of opening and plates of 28.7 x 17 cm. This model is not in our catalogue.
For cooking time, the manual gives exactly one value: a sandwich is toasted in approx. 4 to 5 minutes. For meat, it advises pieces thick enough to touch both plates. Our assessment from this: the Rock’nGrill is built for sandwiches, vegetable slices and flat cuts of meat. A thick steak that needs a hard crust gets more heat in a hot pan; how to go about that is in our steak guide.
Is the surface enough for two people?
For two sandwiches one after the other, yes; for a shared dinner, hardly. Closed, you have 23 x 14.5 cm, which is a little more than an A5 sheet (DIN A5, the standard paper size in Germany). We would plan on one filled sandwich per batch, or two with small slices of toast.
For the sandwich, the manual asks you to lower the upper plate as far as possible and press down while cooking. For two people with two sandwiches each, that is four batches, so according to the manufacturer’s minutes 16 to 20 minutes of cooking time plus preheating.
You gain more space when opened out. For this open grill plate, the manual names hamburgers, steaks, poultry, fish and vegetables. Because each half then heats only from below, you turn the food yourself, and the time per batch rises accordingly; that is our deduction from the design. One advantage remains: according to Cecotec, vegetables on one half and fish on the other do not interfere with each other’s flavour.
On utensils, the manual is strict. Plastic spatulas and tongs made of plastic or wood are allowed, metal tongs and knives never, because they can damage the non-stick coating.
What else is worth considering?
Three contact grills from our catalogue that come up in the same question: is the smallest enough, or is the extra cost worth it?
| Model | The difference | Price | Our rating | Choose this one if |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cecotec Rock’nGrill, model 03011 (this one) | 750 W, no temperature control, 23 x 14.5 cm per plate | approx. €27 | 7.1 | you occasionally make a sandwich for yourself |
| Aigostar Hett Pro | 1500 W on 27 x 17 cm, also folds open 180 degrees | approx. €29 | 7.3 | you want two portions at once and can spend approx. €34 instead of approx. €27 |
| Tefal Contact Grill GC241D | 2000 W with manual thermostat | approx. €57.99 | 8.0 | you want to choose the temperature yourself |
| Tefal OptiGrill XL GC722D | Automatic sensor with thickness detection, removable dishwasher-safe plates, 800 cm² | approx. €129.99 | 9.0 | you grill regularly for several people and want to put the plates in the dishwasher |
The prices are guide values from our price boxes and change. The rating is our editorial assessment based on the available data; we did not have the appliance in our hands.
The Rock’nGrill costs approx. €27, the OptiGrill XL approx. €130. The Tefal GC241D, at approx. €58, costs a good twice as much.
When to choose this grill and when another
Start with the location. The manual says: “Do not use the appliance outdoors.” If you want to grill on the balcony because gas and charcoal are banned there, the Rock’nGrill is the wrong choice, even though it is electric. What is allowed on the balcony and which appliances are built for it is in our guide Grilling on a balcony.
Then the temperature. If you need less heat for fish than for sausages, the Rock’nGrill has no dial to help you. The Tefal GC241D with a thermostat solves exactly that.
The number of people decides the rest. For one person and one sandwich, the surface is enough. From two people who want to eat at the same time, we would go for the Aigostar Hett Pro, which has more surface and twice the power. If you grill for the family several times a week, the OptiGrill XL is more likely to pay off, also because of cleaning: for the Rock’nGrill, the manual does not describe removing the plates, no part is dishwasher safe, and you clean by hand.
That leaves the question of the name. If you are specifically looking for the 1500 Rapid with 1500 W, you will not get it through this listing, going by the model number. If you just want a small, cheap appliance for toast and paninis, the mix-up does not matter to you.
Setting up, cleaning, storing
For setting up, the manual makes these requirements, reproduced here in full:
- place on a flat, heat-resistant surface, and so that no hot liquids can be spilled
- not near heat sources, places with high humidity or flammable materials
- not against the wall; 10 cm clearance at the back and 10 cm on each side
- do not place objects on the appliance during operation
- do not block the openings or obstruct the airflow around the appliance
- the room should have an extractor or be ventilated; do not use the appliance outdoors
- not in highly flammable, explosive, chemical or damp environments
- compare the mains voltage with the rating plate; the socket must be earthed
- do not operate with timers or external remote control systems
Then come the rules on electricity. Before moving it, before cleaning it and when you are not using it, you switch the grill off and pull the plug; it should not be left plugged in unattended. You check the cable regularly, the appliance stays off if the cable is damaged, and only Cecotec’s official technical service may replace it. You should never repair it yourself. The cable must not be twisted, kinked or pulled, and keeps away from sharp edges, heat sources and hot surfaces. One sentence in the German-language manual says never to leave the cable on the worktop. According to our researcher, that is a translation error: the Spanish and Italian versions mean that it should not hang over the edge. The surfaces of the appliance get very hot during operation.
For cleaning, the manual states, also in full:
- Disconnect from the mains and let it cool before cleaning.
- The appliance is easier to clean while slightly warm.
- Wipe the plates with a soft cloth after each use. If food is stuck on, wet it with hot water and detergent and loosen it with a soft sponge.
- Cleaning or scouring agents can damage the non-stick coating.
- Clean the outside only with a damp cloth, no hard sponges.
- Do not immerse the appliance in water or other liquids.
- No part of the appliance is dishwasher safe.
- Remove the grease tray after each use, clean it with hot water and soap, dry it and put it back.
- Store in a cool, dry place, wrapping the power cable around the base.
Two points in it contradict each other. Point 3 mentions water with detergent, point 4 warns against cleaning agents. We would conclude that a drop of mild washing-up liquid is meant for burnt-on food and not harsh cleaners or scouring powder; Cecotec itself does not separate the two. And point 9 has you wrap the cable around the base, while the manufacturer’s site describes a cable compartment. Why food sticks to coated surfaces in the first place is explained in our guide Food sticking to the grate.
What Cecotec does not state
These details are missing from the manual and the manufacturer’s site, and we have no values for them:
- maximum temperature and temperature range
- preheating time in minutes; the manual only says until the green light goes out
- an on/off switch: the manual speaks of switching on but shows no switch among the components
- the material of the plates under the coating, and whether the plates can be removed
- dimensions, weight and cable length
- how far the floating top plate can be raised
- how many portions or people the grill is intended for
- whether the grease tray is included: the manual and the Amazon title mention it, but the scope of delivery on the manufacturer’s site consists only of the appliance and the manual
- a warranty specifically for Germany
From the earlier version of this page, we deleted three time figures for which there was no evidence: preheating in 4 to 6 minutes, toast in 3 to 4 minutes, thin slices of meat in 4 to 5 minutes. The sentence saying there are no deep ribbed patterns is also gone. The manual expressly describes the plates as ribbed.
Who is it suitable for?
For singles and students with little cupboard space. Amazon gives the dimensions as approx. 31 x 10 x 23.5 cm and the weight as approx. 1.4 kg (converted from inches and pounds, not confirmed by the manufacturer). Closed and upright, an appliance like this fits next to the chopping boards.
The Rock’nGrill is wrong for a snack bar, café or canteen: the manual designates it only for private households, and commercial use is not intended. And anyone who wants to grill outdoors needs a different appliance. Which one, the grill finder narrows down with a few questions, and the ranking Best electric grills shows the stronger contact grills.
