Our assessment: The Plancha Booster suits you if you want to cook indoors for 6 to 8 people on one continuous plate and run one zone hotter at the press of a button. According to Tefal's instructions it is not intended for outdoor use; for that, consider the Maxi Plancha CB690D with windshield, the WMF Lono Master Grill or the Landmann EG-II-590.

On Amazon, the designation CB651812 turns out to be the Tefal Plancha Booster (CB6428): a continuous plate of 1,300 cm² and 2,200 W for 6 to 8 people, plus a Boost zone. According to the instructions it may only be used indoors; it is not intended for balconies or terraces.

The Tefal Plancha Booster is an electric table grill with a single continuous plate of 50 × 26 cm. In our catalogue it counts among the electric grills as a tabletop appliance.

We have not handled the Plancha and have not cooked anything on it. Our basis is Tefal’s German instruction manual including the safety sheet, the product data from Tefal Germany (retrieved on 6 October 2026), the country pages for France, the Netherlands and Great Britain as a supplement, Tefal’s warranty and repairability pages, and the Amazon catalogue. Whatever we conclude or assess from these, we mark as our assessment.

Which appliance is behind the designation CB651812

This review carries the name Tefal Plancha CB651812, and this number appears neither in the Tefal data sets for Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Spain and Belgium, nor in the Amazon listing behind our link. There, the title and the model and part number read Tefal Plancha Booster, CB6428.

At Tefal Germany we find an appliance with the same features under the name BBQ Booster Tischgrill CB6418 (reference CB641810). The packaging dimensions Tefal gives there (64.1 × 15.2 × 34.7 cm) appear identically in the size field of the Amazon listing, and the texts on the Power Boost zone, Resist+, Thermo-Spot, 1300 cm² and 6 to 8 people match. That is why we match the two. The matching is our own conclusion from this comparison. By the Plancha Booster we mean this appliance, and all information comes from the documents on it.

On price: on Amazon the appliance cost approx. €90 on 6 October 2026. In the Tefal shop it cost €99.99 on 6 October 2026, status “Almost sold out”. On the Tefal pages for France, the Netherlands and Great Britain it is marked as not purchasable.

Can the Plancha be used on a balcony or terrace?

No. Tefal’s instructions say: “This appliance must not be used outdoors.” We count balconies and terraces as outdoors. Tefal Germany lists only “Indoors” as the place of use.

The product data also speak against outdoor use: Tefal Germany, France and Great Britain list the appliance as not smoke-free, and the French product text describes an electric plancha for indoor spaces. On first use, according to the instructions (p. 18), slight odour or smoke may develop; Tefal advises opening a window and waiting until nothing can be noticed any more.

Tefal’s safety sheet (document 2100116135) is a combined sheet for many appliances. It contains paragraphs on indoor and outdoor use, on residual current devices up to 30 mA and on protection against rain, which apply only to products that carry the IPX4 note on their label. IPX4 does not appear in any of the Tefal data sets we read on the Plancha Booster, and the instructions forbid use outdoors. We therefore do not read these paragraphs as approval for this appliance.

There is also the liability clause in the instructions: improper operation releases the manufacturer from any liability. Anyone who runs the Plancha outdoors anyway is operating outside what Tefal intends. We would not plan it for a balcony, terrace or garden.

Design: plate, dial and dimensions

The plate is a single continuous surface. That is how Tefal Germany lists it: number of plates 1, grill plates continuous; Tefal Great Britain gives the type as plancha. The product photo shows a long, black rectangular plate without visible grooves. This fits the manufacturer’s figure of 50 × 26 cm grilling surface, because 50 times 26 gives exactly the 1300 cm² that Tefal states. The coating is called Tefal Resist+ and, according to Tefal, is combined with Thermo-Spot technology.

On the left of the plate sits the Thermo-Spot indicator, a T in a circle that, according to figure 6 of the instructions, fills dark in three stages. According to the instructions (p. 19), it turns evenly red when warm. Tefal Germany writes that the indicator turns red as soon as the temperature for searing is reached; Tefal France describes it as an indicator for the end of preheating.

The Plancha is operated via a removable plug with a rotary dial for the thermostat, which you plug into the appliance. If it is not seated properly, a safety system prevents operation (instructions p. 18). Tefal Germany speaks of six heat settings, while the country pages contradict each other on this.

Under the plate sits a removable drip tray, which according to figure 17 of the instructions is slid under the plate. The Amazon title additionally mentions a fat drainage channel, and Tefal Germany speaks of even heat distribution with simultaneous fat drainage.

Appliance dimensions and weight come from the Amazon catalogue: 55.0 × 28.7 × 7.2 cm at 3.9 kg. They fit the grilling surface, because the appliance is 5 cm longer and 2.7 cm wider than the plate. Tefal lists the appliance without a multi-purpose lid (“No”); a closed cooking chamber for indirect cooking or smoking is therefore not available, in our assessment.

In the scope of delivery, Tefal Germany lists only the appliance; Tefal Great Britain lists the juice tray as included accessory. To protect the coating, the instructions prescribe a plastic or wooden spatula.

In detail: Boost zone and preheating

The Plancha Booster has two cooking zones, and only one of them is the Boost zone. You switch it on when needed at the press of a button, for example for searing meat; an indicator light shows that the function is running, and temperature and power in the Boost area are then higher (instructions p. 19). The print BOOSTER ZONE in one corner of the plate shows where the zone is (figure 7). Tefal Germany, on the other hand, speaks of half of the grill: on it you sear meat, on the other half more delicate food cooks, or you use the whole grill for more delicate dishes.

Tefal France writes that the Boost zone rises to up to 250 °C; Tefal Germany and France give up to 2200 W for the zone. A worked example: 2,200 W on 1,300 cm² gives on average about 1.7 W per cm², provided all of the power reaches the plate. The Maxi Plancha CB690D has 2,300 W on 1,550 cm², which is about 1.5 W per cm²; the WMF Lono Master Grill has 2,400 W on up to 1,400 cm², so also about 1.7 W per cm². The value averages over the whole plate; in the Boost area, the power is higher when the function is activated, according to the instructions. Our assessment: the advantage of the Plancha Booster lies less in the average power than in the fact that one zone gets hotter in a targeted way while the rest of the plate stays gentler.

You have to preheat in any case. Tefal gives 5 to 8 minutes with the Boost function and 8 to 11 minutes without at the highest setting, while figure 5 of the instructions gives 5 to 10 minutes. The instructions (p. 18) describe start-up like this: set the thermostat on the removable plug to MIN, let the plug click fully into the appliance and plug the power cord into the socket. The red LED lights up and stays on as long as the appliance is connected. Then you turn the thermostat to MAX.

A continuous plate cooks through full-surface contact. Small pieces such as prawns or diced vegetables do not fall through; grill stripes are not to be expected on a plate without visible grooves.

What may go on the plate and what may not

Tefal’s instructions list what harms the coating and the appliance. They forbid using the appliance empty and at the same time require preheating; what “empty” means here is not explained by the sentences we evaluated. Aluminium foil or other objects between the plate and the food are taboo, and you must not grill food wrapped in foil. Tefal rules out flambéed recipes to avoid damage. You use the plate only for its intended purpose, for example not in the oven and not on a gas or electric hob, and you may only use the one supplied or one bought from the authorised customer service.

Some things can spatter: certain foods with skin, such as whole sausages, tongue or poultry, and large pieces of meat when boiling liquid is enclosed. Tefal recommends piercing them with a knife or fork before cooking. You do not remove the grease drip tray during operation; if it threatens to overflow, you let the appliance cool down before emptying it.

Tefal does not give cooking times for salmon, prawns, vegetables or thinly sliced beef on this plate, and we do not give any that we cannot substantiate. You will find general advice on fish and vegetables in our guides grilling fish and grilling vegetables. They are written for grills with a grate and cooking chamber, and the fish guide mentions, among other things, aluminium foil for lean fish, which is forbidden on the Plancha Booster. The vegetable guide lists the plancha as an accessory for small or juicy vegetables that would otherwise fall through.

What else is worth considering?

The prices are guide values from our price box and change. The rating is our editorial assessment from manufacturer data, not a measurement result, and the table is not suitable for comparing cooking results. The details on the Maxi Plancha come from Tefal Germany, those on the MEDION from its product page (we did not read the instructions), and those on the WMF Lono Master Grill and the Landmann from our reviews of these appliances, which are based on WMF documents and Landmann’s instructions.

When this plancha suits you and when another appliance is better

First the location: if the appliance is to go outdoors, then according to the manufacturers’ details the Tefal Maxi Plancha CB690D (indoors and outdoors according to Tefal Germany, with windshield) and the WMF Lono Master Grill (indoors and outdoors according to WMF) are the more likely candidates. The Amazon catalogue text advertises the MEDION Dual-Zonen-Tischgrill MD12027 with IPX4 and windshield for outdoors; whether the MEDION instructions allow outdoor use, we have not checked.

For outdoors with plenty of power, the Landmann EG-II-590 is a different concept: an electric grill trolley with a lid, a grate of 59 × 40.5 cm, a maximum of 3,200 W and two separately adjustable heating elements (100 to 300 °C in steps of 50 °C). Landmann declares it suitable for outdoor use in the instructions, requires a 60 cm radius free of flammable or heat-sensitive materials and a socket for 3,200 W, arithmetically about 13.9 A (3,200 W divided by 230 V). It stands at approx. €550 in our price box, more than five times the Plancha Booster, and in our catalogue carries the badge Comparison Winner 2026.

On surface area, Tefal reckons with 6 to 8 people. If you mostly eat as a pair, you hardly need that much plate and you pay for it in space: the appliance measures about 55 × 29 cm according to the Amazon catalogue and, according to the instructions, must not stand in corners or against a wall, so it belongs on a freely accessible table.

If you want to sear meat and keep something warm next to it, then in our assessment you are better served by two separately adjustable plates, as WMF and MEDION have them; on the Plancha Booster the hot zone is added by a button.

On power: 2200 W at 230 V arithmetically equals about 9.6 A (2200 W divided by 230 V). A 16 A circuit arithmetically carries 3,680 W, so a second powerful appliance on the same circuit, such as a kettle, has to be counted in.

The Plancha Booster is difficult for households with birds. Tefal writes that cooking fumes can be dangerous for animals with a particularly sensitive respiratory system such as birds, and advises bird keepers to keep the animals away from the cooking area. It is not intended for catering or a guesthouse: the instructions allow use exclusively in private households, and the warranty does not extend to use in environments such as staff kitchen areas in shops, offices or other working environments, farm properties, use by guests in hotels, motels and other accommodation environments, and bed and breakfasts.

Cleaning, care and safety according to the instructions

Before every cleaning you let the appliance cool for at least 2 hours (figure 12 of the instructions shows a clock symbol with 2H) and only then pull the removable plug from the appliance. You clean the plate and appliance body, according to the instructions (p. 19), with a sponge, warm water and washing-up liquid. The removable plug and the mains cord are not dishwasher-safe (figure 16 shows this as a crossed-out symbol), and you never immerse the appliance, cord or controls in water or other liquids. All parts must be dry before you use the Plancha again.

On the dishwasher, Tefal’s documents contradict each other. The instructions describe hand cleaning and elsewhere (p. 17) declare the appliance not dishwasher-safe; the details are in the frequently asked questions.

The instructions (German part, pp. 13 to 19) contain more than is stated here. Two sentences are incomplete or unclear in print, the replacement by qualified personnel on p. 15 and the grease drip tray during cooking on p. 19, and are therefore missing. Power, cord and accessories are covered in the frequently asked questions. The printed text is authoritative.

For setting up, Tefal also requires: not directly on sensitive surfaces such as a glass table, tablecloth or varnished furniture, not on soft surfaces and not on or next to slippery or hot surfaces, never under easily flammable objects such as curtains or drapes. If the appliance stands in the middle of the table, it must be out of children’s reach, and before use you check that it stands stably.

  • Read the instructions carefully before first use, heed the symbols and keep them together with the appliance.
  • Remove packaging, stickers and accessories inside and outside the appliance, and unroll the power cord completely.
  • The power supply must match the current and voltage stated on the underside of the appliance.
  • Never leave the appliance running unattended and do not move it during operation; while it is hot, you do not move it.
  • The surfaces can become very hot during use: do not touch them, always use the handles.
  • Do not use it if it does not work properly, has fallen or shows visible damage.
  • Do not put a hot plate on an unstable surface and do not hold it under water.
  • Children aged 8 and over and persons with reduced physical, mental or sensory capabilities or a lack of experience may only use the appliance if they are supervised or have been given instructions on safe use and understand the risks.
  • Children must not clean or maintain the appliance unless they are older than 8 and supervised. Keep the appliance and mains cord out of reach of children under 8; do not leave children unattended so they do not play with the appliance.
  • After every use and before every cleaning, disconnect the appliance from the mains.
  • If a part of the appliance catches fire: do not extinguish with water, pull the mains plug and smother the flames with a damp cloth.
  • In case of a burn, cool immediately with cold water and call a doctor if necessary.
  • Any intervention other than the cleaning and maintenance customary in the household by the customer is carried out by an authorised service partner.
  • Food that has come into contact with objects bearing the crossed-out glass-and-fork symbol must no longer be eaten.

What Tefal leaves open

Tefal’s product data, instructions and safety sheet do not clarify these points. Where the Amazon catalogue contains something on them, the manufacturer’s evidence is missing.

  • Material of the plate, housing, handles and heating element. Whether the Resist+ coating contains PTFE or PFOA or is free of them remains open.
  • Appliance dimensions and appliance weight; only the packaging dimensions and the catalogue values from Amazon are documented.
  • Area of the Boost zone in cm², temperatures of the heat settings in degrees and maximum temperature outside the Boost zone.
  • Number of heating elements, split of the 2200 W between normal and Boost zone, and heat-up time to a specific temperature in °C.
  • Whether the dial is continuously variable or clicks into place; in the illustrations of the instructions there are dots between the numbers that they do not explain.
  • Power consumption per grilling session in kWh; for off mode and standby the data sets only say “NA”.
  • Amount of smoke when searing in measured values; Tefal lists the appliance only as not smoke-free.
  • A statement on an enclosed balcony or conservatory; the instructions only forbid use outdoors.
  • Accessories in the scope of delivery: cover, windshield, stand and spatula are listed in none of the lists we read.
  • Capacity of the drip tray and construction of the fat drainage channel.
  • Minimum distances in cm to walls, curtains and furniture.
  • Country of manufacture: Tefal’s French product text speaks of manufacture in France, the origin markers of the data sets for Germany, Great Britain and France say “no”, and no reliable proof of origin is available.
  • Appliance-specific warranty terms beyond the general warranty; we did not evaluate the associated PDF.
  • Market launch: Amazon lists 3 July 2023, which no manufacturer evidence supports; whether Tefal is discontinuing or replacing the appliance is open.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about Tefal Plancha CB651812

Short, clear answers about buying, using and caring for Tefal Plancha CB651812.

Which number do I look for at Tefal if I need accessories or the instructions?

At Tefal Germany, the appliance carries the reference CB641810 according to our matching (service reference CB641810/79A, EAN 3168437242817). In France, the Netherlands, Spain and Belgium it is called CB642800 (EAN 3168437242824); the Amazon number CB6428 corresponds to the marketing name of this variant. Tefal Great Britain lists CB642840 in black. All four country pages with instructions link to the same document 2100120470, whose cover page only says PLANCHA BOOSTER.

Does the dial have five or six settings?

That depends on the country page. Tefal Germany and the Amazon catalogue state six heat settings, Tefal France five positions plus a Boost button, Tefal Netherlands five heat settings. The illustrations in the instructions show a dial with numbers up to 6, with MAX at 6. Five settings plus Boost could be added up to six, but the instructions describe Boost as a button, not as a dial position; that sum remains a guess on our part.

Can the plate go in the dishwasher?

Tefal does not answer this clearly. The instructions declare the appliance not dishwasher-safe on p. 17. Tefal Germany, on the other hand, explicitly lists the drip tray as dishwasher-safe, Tefal France and the Netherlands allow the appliance without its electrical part, and the combined safety sheet 2100116135 lets you clean the plate and grease tray either with washing-up liquid or in the machine. The electrical part stays out in all sources.

Do I need oil, and which spatula can I use?

You need oil to start with, and a plastic or wooden spatula permanently. Before first use you wash the plate, put a little oil on it and rub it off with a soft kitchen towel, according to the instructions; Tefal Germany also advertises grilling without added oil. You do not cut directly on the plate, you do not rest utensils on it, and metal sponges and scouring powder are forbidden so the coating does not suffer.

Is the cord long enough, and can I use an extension cord?

According to the instructions, an extension cord is possible if it is earthed; the mains cord measures 1.2 m according to Tefal Germany. The appliance runs on 220 to 230 V at 50 to 60 Hz and belongs on an earthed socket. The cord must not become a trip hazard and must not run over sharp edges, hobs or a gas cooker. You check it regularly and stop using it if it is damaged. According to the instructions, you have it replaced by an authorised service partner or a similarly qualified person, and only with the original supply cord.

What do spare parts cost, and how long are they available?

In the Tefal accessories shop on 6 October 2026, the plate (TS-01044160) cost €26.99, the cord with thermostat (TS-01044220) €15.99 and the drip container (TS-01044210) €6.99. Tefal Germany lists 15 years of repairability. According to Tefal Germany, the warranty period is two years and applies to private use, one year for commercial use (tefal.de/garantie).

How does it differ from the Tefal Maxi Plancha CB690D?

Tefal Germany lists the Maxi Plancha with five settings, a 2 m cord, a spatula as included accessory and up to 10 people. The plate and juice tray are dishwasher-safe, and the housing is made of thermoplastic. It was out of stock in the Tefal shop on 6 October 2026.

How do I switch the Plancha off, and may it stay plugged in?

You set the thermostat to MIN and disconnect the removable plug from the socket, according to the instructions. Tefal Germany does list an on/off switch as a feature; to switch off, the instructions describe turning the dial to MIN and pulling the mains plug. You must not leave the appliance connected to the mains when it is not in use. An external timer or separate remote control is forbidden, and you never pull the plug out of the socket by the cord.
