Three poles, one chain, one bowl
The SOUK ONE set is a swing grill in its simplest form: three black poles that meet at the top, a round grate that hangs beneath them on chains, and a fire bowl that stands on the ground. The Amazon catalogue calls it “Dreibein Schwenkgrill 150 cm, Grillrost 46 cm, Feuerschale 50 cm” (tripod swing grill 150 cm, grill grate 46 cm, fire bowl 50 cm), and exactly these three parts arrive in one delivery. A lid is not included, and neither is a windshield. With us the set is in the charcoal grills category among the swing grills, at approx. €40 according to our price box (Amazon page on 20 October 2026: €39.99).
The advantage of a complete set is simply this: you do not have to search for the grate and bowl separately and make sure that diameter, chain length and frame height match each other.
A word on the sources up front. We did not have the set in our hands and did not grill anything on it. The brand addresses souk-one.de and souk-one.com redirect to an online shop at flammen-experte.de, and when we researched it in October 2026 it showed only a password page with the sentence “Opening soon”. Product page, imprint and instructions were not available there. Everything stated here about the set therefore comes from the Amazon catalogue and the product photo. Where we derive something from the picture or make an assessment, we say so.
150 cm high, approx. 6 kg heavy, built from “metal”
According to the seller’s technical data, the overall height is 150 cm. The catalogue field for height arrives at the same value with 59.06 inches. Length and width are given there as 35.43 inches each, which converts to 90 × 90 cm. The catalogue does not say what this dimension stands for. In the photo the legs splay far outwards, so we consider it the footprint of the assembled tripod. For your spot this means: plan for a circle of a good metre rather than the size of the bowl.
On weight, two statements agree: “approx. 6 kg” in the description and 13.23 pounds in the data sheet, which gives 6.0 kg. Whether this was weighed with or without packaging remains open. For a frame that stands 150 cm high over an open fire, that is little. You can carry a light tripod easily to a corner of the garden, but it also tips more easily if someone walks into a leg.
For the material, the data contains a single word: metal. In addition, the seller advertises the set as “weather-resistant and sturdy”. Which steel, which finish and which sheet thickness lie behind that remains unanswered. According to the catalogue the colour is black. In the photo the legs and bowl are black, while the grate and chains are bare and silver.
According to the seller, the fire bowl has a diameter of 50 cm and is 35 cm high. In the product image it looks like a shallow tub standing on three short legs. Whether the 35 cm includes these legs is not clear from the statement. According to the description, the bowl is suitable “for grilling or for cosy campfires”.
What else is available: the seller points to a matching Dutch oven and further steel fire bowls that are said to fit the tripod. None of this is in the delivery, and because the brand shop is locked, we could not look up the models. How cooking in a cast-iron pot works in general is explained in our Dutch oven guide.
In detail: controlling heat when only height is left
A kettle grill controls temperature via lid and vent slider. A swing grill has neither. The embers lie open in the bowl, the heat rises freely upwards, and the only thing you can change is the distance between embers and food. According to the seller, the grate can be “easily adjusted in height” so that you regulate the heat.
The product page does not describe how this works mechanically. In the photo the grate hangs on three chains attached to its rim that join above into a single strand. This strand leads to the top of the tripod. A second piece of chain hangs loose beside one of the legs. That points to the construction that is usual for tripods: you hang the chain on the hook at the top with a different link, and the grate moves up or down a bit. Such a chain adjusts in steps of one link, not continuously, as the earlier text on this page said.
Why the distance matters so much: above open embers, the heat arrives largely as radiation, the rest with the hot air that rises. Both fall off quickly with height, because the air mixes with cooler ambient air and the radiation spreads over a larger area. A few links lower therefore means noticeably more heat at the meat. Wind shifts this calculation. Without a lid, even a light breeze pushes the hot air aside, and the centre of the grate gets less than the embers below would suggest.
Then there is what gives the device its name. A grate on a chain swings as soon as you nudge it. When swinging, the food moves over hotter and cooler spots of the embers, and dripping fat does not constantly fall on the same spot. Flare-ups become less frequent, but they do not disappear entirely.
The chain also has a practical consequence: it hangs directly over the fire and gets hot. You need heat-resistant gloves to rehang it. Which fuel goes into the bowl is your choice; the differences between the two usual kinds are explained in the guide Charcoal or briquettes.
Is the grate enough for a group of six?
For four people who eat one after another and for whom you load a second round, it is enough in our assessment. For six who all need to be fed at the same time, it is tight. There is no number of people from the seller.
The diameter of the grate is documented: 46 cm. A circle of this size has roughly 1,660 cm² by calculation. This figure is our own calculation from the diameter and not a manufacturer’s statement. Somewhat less is usable, because the three chains attach at the rim and, in the photo, the outermost zone is bordered by a ring. For comparison: a swing grate with a diameter of 60 cm would come to roughly 2,830 cm², so the SOUK ONE has just under 60 percent of that area.
The ratio to the bowl is favourable. At 50 cm it is slightly wider than the grate, so the embers extend to beneath its rim. A deliberately cooler side, as you get in a kettle grill by pushing the coals aside, arises only to a limited extent on a swinging grate, because it travels over both sides as it swings.
Safety and care without manufacturer instructions
What follows are general rules for any open charcoal and wood fire, formulated by us and not by SOUK ONE.
The set belongs outdoors. Glowing charcoal produces carbon monoxide, which you can neither see nor smell, so never use it under a closed canopy, in a gazebo with side walls or in the garage, not even to let the coals burn out. Light it with solid firelighters or a chimney starter, never with methylated spirit or petrol. When wood burns in the bowl, sparks fly, and with an open fire they rise higher than you would think. Hedges, garden shed, awning and parasol should therefore stand far enough away.
The ground deserves more attention with this set than with a grill on tall legs. In the photo the bowl stands only just above the ground, and its underside gets hot. On dry lawn it will, in our assessment, leave a brown patch, and on wooden decking it can cause burn marks. Stone slabs, gravel or a fireproof mat are the right place. The legs of the tripod are best placed on level, firm ground so that none sinks in and the frame does not hang crooked over the embers.
You tip out ash and charcoal remains only when everything is cold, and then into a metal bucket. A cover hood goes on the grill only when it has cooled down completely.
There is no manufacturer recommendation at all for cleaning. Because the surface of the grate is unknown, we also cannot say whether a hard wire brush damages it. On chrome-plated grates it can damage the chrome layer, while stainless steel tolerates it better. Rust on the steel is likely anyway on a frame that stands outside if it stays damp. What helps then is in the guide Grill rusting: what to do?.
What SOUK ONE does not state
Without a manufacturer page and instructions, a long list remains open: the steel grade of frame, bowl and grate, the type of black finish (paint, powder coating or heat-resistant paint), the sheet thickness of the bowl, the material of the grate, the length of the chain, the size of its links, the smallest and largest distance between grate and embers, whether the grate can also be rotated on the hook, the load capacity of tripod and chain, the construction of the legs (plug-in, screwed or telescopic), packed size and assembly time, whether the bowl has drain holes, a grilling area in cm² and a number of people, a manufacturer’s warranty, spare parts such as a single chain or a single grate, notes on cleaning and care, and all safety notes, from distances to flammable materials to extinguishing. About the company itself, its seat and the country of production, we also found nothing. Several statements from the earlier version of this page, including a painted finish, an assembly time under 20 minutes and cooking times for steaks, could not be found in any source. We have deleted them.
Three alternatives from our catalogue
| Model | The difference | Price | Our rating | Choose this one if |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| SOUK ONE swing grill set 150 cm (this one) | Tripod with grate and bowl, both diameters stated | approx. €40 | 7.5 | you want a complete set with known dimensions |
| Grillchef by Landmann swing grill 0542 | Tripod with chain hoist and fire bowl, diameters not documented in our research | approx. €25.51 | 7.7 | you are starting with the smallest budget and the exact grate size is secondary |
| Gregman Roast 30 swing grill | 51 cm steel bowl with heat-resistant coating, chrome-plated grate, 166 cm high | approx. €69.99 | 7.7 | a named coating is worth the extra cost to you |
| Everdure HUB II | Freestanding charcoal grill with Fast Flame Ignition starter aid and rotisserie | approx. €2,503 | 9.4 | you want a grill with an ignition aid rather than campfire atmosphere |
The prices come from our price boxes and change continually. The rating is an editorial assessment based on the data comparison; we measured nothing on any of the four devices.
Who the set suits, and when another one does
The budget comes first. The Grillchef 0542 costs approx. €25.51, the SOUK ONE set approx. €40. According to our research it has the same basic idea: tripod, chain hoist and fire bowl. However, we did not find the size of the grate and bowl there documented. If you already know that you need a grate of at least 46 cm, that speaks for the SOUK ONE; if you just want to try swing grilling once for little money, we would go for the Grillchef.
The second question is the material. For the Gregman Roast 30, the manufacturer names a 51 cm steel bowl with heat-resistant coating and a chrome-plated grate. That is more than SOUK ONE reveals about its set, and it costs approx. €69.99 instead of approx. €40. If the swing grill stands outside for you the whole season, this information would be worth the extra cost to us, because then you know what protects against moisture.
The Everdure HUB II belongs to a different world. It is the highest-rated grill in our category, but costs approx. €2,503 and is a freestanding charcoal grill with an ignition aid instead of an open tripod. Anyone who is really looking for a comfortable charcoal grill for the terrace and only got stuck on the swing grill because it is cheap should at least look at this class.
In our assessment, the SOUK ONE suits people with a garden or open space who grill over an open fire now and then, want to use the bowl as a campfire on other evenings and are happy to manage with approx. €40.
The set is the wrong choice in a windy, exposed spot, where the light frame and the missing lid work against you twice over. The same goes for families in which small children run around the fire: a tripod of approx. 6 kg over open embers is quickly knocked over. And it is wrong for anyone who wants to read the manufacturer’s own safety and care notes, because not a single one was available for this set. If you do not yet know which type of grill suits your space at all, the Grill Finder asks about space, number of people and budget and then suggests types of grill.
