What the set is and what the instructions intend it for
The set belongs to grill accessories. It has no burner; the heat comes from the grill underneath, and it consists of six parts: a stainless steel plancha, a burger press, two burger domes and two grill spatulas. You place the plancha on the grate of a gas or charcoal grill and cook on it instead of on the bars. That is its purpose: a flat-pressed patty would stick to the bars of an open grate, while a closed surface carries it.
The seller’s instruction manual is two pages long. It names household use and outdoor grilling as the area of use, and preparation on grilling appliances (gas grill, charcoal grill, plancha) or on suitable cooking surfaces as the intended purpose. As food to cook it lists meat, vegetables and fish, and in particular smash burgers.
We did not find a manufacturer’s own website, and we have not handled the set ourselves. This comparison is based on the instructions, the Amazon listing with its bullet points, and the seller’s infographics in the image gallery. What appears only there, we mark as a seller claim.
The six parts and their dimensions
According to the infographic, the plancha measures 30 cm in width and 40 cm in depth, is 4 mm thick and weighs 4.2 kg. A second infographic gives the wall height as 27 mm and mentions a fat drain in both corners. The product photo shows a shallow tray with a raised edge and no handle. All these values are image text; the Amazon catalogue has no dimensions field for the set. The seller does not say whether the 30 × 40 cm is measured on the outside or between the walls; we therefore do not calculate a cooking area.
According to the infographic, the burger press measures 14.5 cm. The two burger domes, also called melting domes in the instructions, have a diameter of 16 cm and are 7 cm high. The two spatulas have blade widths of 9.8 and 11.8 cm.
What the spatulas are called depends on the source: the instructions speak of grill spatulas, the Amazon text of teppanyaki spatulas, the infographic of grill scrapers. We call them flippers; each time we mean the two corresponding parts of the set. In the photos they have black handles, while the Amazon data field gives stainless steel as the handle material, and the documents do not allow us to decide which of the two statements is right. A second inconsistency concerns the edges: the flipper infographic advertises sharpened edges for scraping, the Amazon text says “no sharp edges”.
As material the instructions name stainless steel (rustproof). The Amazon text states that all items are made of 100% rustproof stainless steel, that the material is certified food-safe and that every product is reworked by hand.
In detail: what a heavy plate does when smashing
With a smash burger, a ball of minced meat goes onto a hot, smooth surface and is pressed flat immediately. The instructions describe the press for exactly this: for shaping burger patties or for pressing down (smashing) on the hot plancha. How the process works in detail is covered in our guide Grilling burgers.
The role of the 4 mm follows from physics, and we place it in context ourselves here. A metal plate stores heat in its mass. Cold meat draws heat away at the point of contact, and a solid plate has more of it in reserve than a thin sheet before its surface cools noticeably. We have no measurement on this, either from the seller or from a third party.
There is also a material property: stainless steel conducts heat considerably worse than cast iron or unalloyed steel. Heat therefore travels more slowly sideways in the plate, and over the burner or the embers it is probably hotter than at the edge. The seller promises even heat distribution but backs it with no figure. Our assessment: plan for a hotter and a cooler zone, even at 4 mm.
The burger dome is a stainless steel lid; in the product photo one dome covers a single patty. According to the instructions it covers food to retain heat and melt cheese evenly. The infographic goes further: steam forms under the dome, the meat stays juicier and becomes crispy quickly. That steam forms is plausible, because water escapes from the meat. That it becomes both juicier and crispier is a marketing claim without measurement, and steam tends to soften a crust rather than firm it up.
According to the instructions, the flippers are intended for turning, chopping and portioning. A sharpened edge, as the infographic describes it, slides more easily under a patty whose crust sticks to the plate; that is our reading of the image claim.
How hot may the plate get?
Only the Amazon listing names an upper limit: the plancha is said to stay warp-free beyond 700 °C. The set’s instructions contain no temperature limit.
The Amazon text promises word for word that the plate is 100% warp-free even at these temperatures, on all gas and charcoal grills. No test certificate is attached. The sentence also applies only to the plancha, not to the press, domes and flippers.
Warping occurs when a plate expands unevenly, for example because it is heated quickly and in one spot. Material thickness and slow heating help against this, and the instructions also require the latter. We read the note as a practical part of the promise.
What the figure means for your grill cannot be read from it. How hot the sheet gets on your grate depends on burner output and lid, and a lid thermometer measures the air under the hood, not the plate.
Oiling, cleaning, safety
Before first use, the instructions say the plancha should be cleaned thoroughly with warm water and washing-up liquid. After that it says: lightly oil, seasoning recommended. Temperature and duration of the seasoning are missing. The plancha should be heated slowly on the grill or hob and used only on heat-resistant and suitable grilling surfaces. The plate’s infographic advertises a “non-stick patina”. The seller does not explain how it forms; the obvious explanation is the layer of baked-on oil.
After grilling, according to the instructions, all parts are dishwasher-safe. Alternatively, clean with warm water, washing-up liquid and a soft sponge. Then dry thoroughly so no water marks remain, and lightly oil the plancha regularly to protect the surface. Whether the plate fits in your dishwasher can only be seen on your own appliance.
The safety notes consist of six points. The product becomes very hot during use, and there is a risk of burns. Heat-resistant gloves must be used, children must be kept away from the product, and it may only be used as intended. In addition there is the ban on harsh cleaning agents and scouring pads, and the note not to leave the product unattended on heated surfaces.
Not in the set’s instructions, but correct in principle: do not quench hot metal with cold water, as it can warp. The manual for the separately sold Havenhaus plancha requires letting the plate cool down before taking it off the grill. We would apply that to the set, if only because the plate has no handle. Fat that gets down through the drain can cause a grease fire on the grill; prevention and extinguishing are covered in the guide Grease fires on the grill.
What the seller does not state
These details are missing from the instructions, the Amazon listing and the infographics:
- Grade of the stainless steel (304, V2A or another) and the testing body or standard behind the claim certified food-safe
- Total weight of the set and individual weights of press, domes and flippers; only the plancha is given a figure
- usable area between the walls, position and size of the drain openings
- Number of patties or people the plancha is intended for
- Heat-up time and any measured value for heat distribution
- Country of manufacture and factory, warranty period and warranty conditions, spare parts
- Suitability for induction, ceramic hobs and ovens
- Setup, minimum clearances, gas connection and pressure regulator: for these, your grill’s instructions count
Price and variants
Our price box lists the set at approx. €85 (Amazon page on 20.10.2026: €84.99). Prices change on Amazon, so check the current price on the day you buy. The prices of the listings named below are Amazon prices from 20.10.2026 and are therefore only roughly comparable with our price box.
The seller lists several listings with similar contents on Amazon. This review applies to number B0GTC6K2J1, item number SMBRG26HXXL, variant name “Smash Burger Set XXL inkl. Plancha”. Under B0GWW7P1K2 there is a 6-piece set with a 4 mm plancha, whose title mentions 40x30cm and which describes the same contents: plancha, burger press, two burger domes, two flippers. It cost €67.99 on 20.10.2026. Whether both listings are the same product is shown only by the identical text, not by any seller document.
Another listing, B0H3PK46SZ, describes a 6-piece set with a plancha of exactly 5 mm stainless steel. According to the seller’s text it has three particularly high side walls and welded corners without drain holes, and the flippers have a black wooden handle. Price on 20.10.2026: €80.74. The single 4 mm plate (B0DZZFZ5HN) cost €53.39 that day; we do not transfer its details to the set, because Amazon lists it as a separate product.
Not included are cooking oil for oiling and the heat-resistant gloves that the instructions require. What both cost depends on your choice.
These three plates are worth a look
Comparable are plates of the same format that you also place on the grate. You will find more accessory comparisons in the Grill accessories category.
| Model | The difference | Price | Our rating | Choose this one if |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| HAVENHAUS Plancha Smash Burger Set XXL (this one) | 4 mm plate with press, two domes and two flippers | approx. €85 | 8.2 | you want to press smash burgers and own neither press nor domes |
| Waldmeister Plancha Grillplatte 40x30cm | Lid for the whole plate and integrated handles, no press, no domes | approx. €73 | 8.2 | you want to cook several patties or vegetables under one lid and carry the plate by the handle |
| Digank Plancha-Grillplatte 40x30cm | 4 mm as here, plus two removable handles and an oil drain hole | approx. €58 | 8.1 | you are looking for a plate with handles at a low price |
| Arebos Plancha Grillplatte 40 × 30 cm | Manual with temperature limit, two removable handles, spatula and skewers | approx. €57 | 8.3 | you want a heat limit you can look up, and handles |
The table is not a measurement log: the prices are guide values from our price boxes (as of September 2026) and change, and the ratings are editorial assessments. All four lie between 8.1 and 8.3. The decision comes down to accessories and handles, and then to whether a heat limit can be looked up.
When this set fits and for whom it does not
Start with the grate. A bracket is not among the six parts, so the plancha simply rests on top. If it wobbles on your grate or overhangs far at the sides, a different size is the better choice. Only your own grill can settle that.
For the number of people there is no seller statement. The manufacturer of the equally sized Waldmeister plate recommends 40 × 30 cm for 2 to 4 people; as a rough guide for a plate of this size that will do, but no more. For more guests it comes down to one plate and several rounds.
Handles: in the product photo the plancha has none, and none appears in the instructions’ list of contents either. Digank and Arebos include two removable handles, and the Waldmeister plate has integrated ones. If you want to carry or move the plate, you are better served by one of those.
On heat, only the figure from the Amazon text is available for this set. In its manual, Arebos gives 350 °C as the limit against deformation, and 800 °C in the shop and Amazon title. The figures contradict each other there, but the lower one is in the document that comes with the purchase. If you need a limit you can look up, you will find it there. Oiling does not set the plates apart either: the Arebos manual also requires washing and seasoning before the first grilling.
The budget: press and domes cost money. Digank is at approx. €58 in our price box and therefore approx. €27 below this set, Arebos at approx. €57 and therefore approx. €28 below, Waldmeister at approx. €73 and therefore approx. €12 below. Arebos includes a spatula and skewers, Waldmeister a lid, and for Digank Amazon does not break down the contents of the accessory set. Press and domes are not in the contents lists in the Arebos and Waldmeister documents.
Our assessment: the choice depends on two questions. Do you already own a press and domes, and do you want to carry the plate by a handle? Two yeses point to Digank or Arebos, two noes to this set, and with one yes and one no you should work it out on the day you buy.
The set is wrong for anyone who wants to give it as a gift without knowing the recipient’s grate. The seller does describe a simple and modern gift packaging, but a minimum grate size by which the fit could be checked beforehand is missing from its documents.
