The Micro BBQ from GOODS+GADGETS is a small charcoal grill with a round bowl and a domed lid, sold in black, red and green by Goods & Gadgets GmbH of Nuremberg. The manual calls it the “Micro BBQ Kugelgrill” (kettle grill) and describes a compact stainless steel charcoal travel grill; on Amazon the listing is titled “Kugelgrill klein 38cm kompakter Campinggrill Holzkohle”. In our Kettle grill category, it belongs to the tabletop grills.
We have not handled it and have not grilled anything on it. We compare data, and that data comes from the product page and legal notice of the manufacturer’s shop geheimshop.de (read on 14.10.2026), from the German part of the multilingual manual and from the Amazon catalogue; the product photo is added to that. The German version of the manual runs to two pages, so there is correspondingly little in it. Our own calculations and assessments are marked as such in the text.
Construction and material: bowl, lid, legs
The Amazon photo shows a round, black bowl with a domed lid. In the lid sits a metal disc with two oval openings, with a bow handle arching over it. The disc is probably the stainless steel vent that the manual lists in the lid. Three shiny metal legs with black foot caps carry the bowl, and a round metal disc sits beneath the bowl between them.
The manual lists these components: lid with stainless steel vent, cooking grate, charcoal grate, integrated ash catcher and reinforced support feet. The charcoal grate holds the charcoal, the cooking grate holds the food.
On the material, the sources differ. The manual and shop say enamelled stainless steel. In the Amazon catalogue, the material is given as stainless steel, the handle material as stainless steel and the frame material as alloy steel. Enamel is a layer of glass fused onto the metal. As long as it is intact, it protects the base material, and where it chips off, the metal is exposed (this is how enamel behaves in general, not a statement about this grill). The shop advertises non-stick properties, Amazon less sticking thanks to the enamelled kettle shape, both without a measured value. Against deformation at high heat, the shop says it uses reinforced stainless steel.
Dimensions and weight: the sources contradict each other
Amazon lists two separate groups of listings under the brand, each in black, red and green (Amazon pages of 14.10.2026). The figures break down like this:
- Manual: 38 × 38 × 40 cm, 1.25 kg
- Amazon listing B0DB9JBC45 (our link, black): 38 × 38 × 40 cm, no weight given
- Manufacturer’s shop: 40 × 10 × 40 cm, 1.88 kg
- Second Amazon group (red, B01HPZP3JU): 40 × 10 × 40 cm, 1,880 g
The manual carries the ASIN B01HPZP3JU in its header, and so that of the second group, but gives the dimensions of the first. A dimension of only 10 cm does not fit the round bowl in the photo. The shop weight is 0.63 kg above the manual value, so roughly half as much again (our calculation).
Whether both groups refer to the same grill is not documented. It is likely, because brand, product name, 38 cm and the three colours match; but the model number of the linked listing (45654654) appears in no manufacturer document. Wherever we write “according to the manual”, the statement refers to the manufacturer’s Micro BBQ kettle grill. Nobody has confirmed to us that it applies to the linked Amazon listing.
In detail: how a kettle grill controls its heat
A kettle grill has no control knob, the air regulates the heat. If plenty of oxygen reaches the embers, the charcoal burns hot; if all openings are closed, it suffocates. For air to flow at all, it must be able to get in somewhere and out somewhere.
On the Micro BBQ, the manual names one vent, the stainless steel vent in the lid, and has you control the temperature through it. The shop, by contrast, speaks of adjustable vents on the lid and at the base. With two vents you control intake and exhaust separately, with only one in the lid just the exhaust; that is how we read the situation. In the photo, no opening can be seen at the bottom of the bowl, although it only shows the grill from the side.
Operation according to the manual: fill with charcoal, light it and wait until it is covered with a layer of white ash, then place the food on the grate and control the temperature via the vent. If the grill does not get hot, you open the vent and check the charcoal. If the food burns, you close the vent and move it to the indirect heat zone. If the charcoal does not burn through in the first place, the guide Charcoal will not light properly helps.
How this indirect zone is created, the manual does not describe: no charcoal divider, no dimensions of the charcoal grate, no zone instructions. Our conclusion: if you push the charcoal to one side, there are no embers under the rest of the grate. How much space that gives on a grate of unknown size cannot be said. The guide Using direct and indirect heat correctly explains the principle.
The manual and shop compare the heat circulation to that of a fan oven. We would not take that literally: a fan oven circulates the air with a fan, and none is visible in the photo of the Micro BBQ. On the Micro BBQ, by our classification, the only driving force left is the buoyancy of the hot air.
According to the photo, the Micro BBQ has no lid thermometer. If you want to know the temperature in the bowl, you need your own thermometer; the core temperature of meat is in any case only measured by an insertion thermometer.
How many people is the Micro BBQ enough for?
Amazon writes: for two to four people. This cannot be verified, as the manufacturer states neither cooking area nor grate diameter. We would plan with the lower end of the range, that is, two people.
We do not calculate an area from the dimensions. They are outer dimensions, and the grate sits inside the bowl, so it is smaller than any of them. The round body in the photo and the two identical values suggest that 38 cm is a diameter; only the second Amazon group states it explicitly. Other manufacturers do state the area: Weber for the Smokey Joe Premium, Napoleon for its 57 cm kettle. Their figures are in the table further down.
Safety, placement and cleaning: the manual’s wording
This section follows the German part of the manual. We reproduce the lists in full and in the manual’s wording.
Intended use (section 3): use exclusively outdoors for grilling food, not suitable for indoor use. Placement (section 7): on a level, heat-resistant and stable surface outdoors.
Safety notes (section 9):
- Warning: do not use in enclosed spaces, risk of carbon monoxide.
- Do not use methylated spirits or petrol for lighting or relighting.
- Keep children and pets away.
- The grill gets very hot and must not be moved during operation.
Cleaning (section 10):
- Hand wash only.
- Let it cool down completely before cleaning.
- Empty the ash catcher.
- Clean the grate with mild soapy water.
- Do not use abrasive cleaning agents on the enamel.
We comment on two points. The shop says the grill stands securely on any table or level surface, while the manual requires a heat-resistant surface. We go with the manual: the grill gets very hot, and a wooden tabletop or a plastic top is not heat-resistant. The second point is cleaning. The manual says nothing about brushes; a wire brush scours, and we would not use one on the enamel (our assessment, not a requirement of the manual).
What the manufacturer does not state
The following are not stated in the manual, on the shop page or in the linked Amazon listing B0DB9JBC45:
- Cooking area, grate diameter and bowl diameter (a second Amazon group gives 38 cm as the diameter and a cooking area of 1,256.64 cm², which corresponds to a diameter of 40 cm; we do not use the figure)
- Maximum temperature, heat-up time, charcoal quantity, burn time and the temperature range of the vent
- Material thickness of bowl, lid and grate, and which component is made of which metal (including cooking grate and charcoal grate)
- Minimum distances to walls, railings and combustible materials
- Behaviour in wind, load capacity and maximum load
- Warranty period and warranty terms, spare parts such as grate, charcoal grate, ash tray, feet and vent
- Whether the ash catcher can be taken out and the feet removed again for transport
- Approval or standard (for example EN 1860), suitability of the enamel for food contact, pollutant testing
- Country of origin (only one Amazon catalogue field names China), launch of the Micro BBQ and the year the company was founded
The Amazon photo also shows two seals, a Prüfengel seal and a customer award from the DtGV. We have no supporting documents for them; the seals do not factor into our rating.

The prices are guide values from the price boxes of our reviews, and the rating is our editorial assessment, not a measurement result. The table is not suitable for comparing dimensions and weights, because the figures come from different sources. Our comparison Best kettle grills 2026 shows further models.
When the Micro BBQ fits and when another one does
First, decide whether the grill should go on the table or on the ground. In our price boxes, the Nexos kettle grill costs approx. €30, the same as the Micro BBQ, but according to the Amazon listing it is a freestanding grill with two wheels and, by the catalogue dimensions, well over twice as tall. It does have a lid thermometer. If you mostly grill at home and have space, you are better off with the Nexos; if you take the grill with you, with the Micro BBQ.
With the Weber Smokey Joe Premium Slate Blue, you pay around €60 more in the price boxes (approx. €90 against approx. €30) and get figures in return. Weber states cooking area and weight, and on bowl and lid Weber gives a ten-year warranty against rust-through and burn-through, valid only for the first buyer. For the Micro BBQ, cooking area and warranty are missing, and the sources argue over the weight. The Weber is 3.6 to 4.2 kg heavier (our calculation); if you have to carry the grill a long way, factor that in.
Then the fuel. If you want to cook for hours at low heat, the Micro BBQ gives you no figure to go by; we would not plan on it for that. Charcoal and firelighters come on top of the purchase price, and which is the better buy is covered in the guide Lump charcoal or briquettes. On Amazon, the Micro BBQ stands at approx. €30 in our price box; what a charcoal fill costs per barbecue evening cannot be calculated without a charcoal quantity. The price that counts is the one the seller shows you on the day of purchase.
Who is it suitable for?
As places of use, the manufacturer’s shop names camping, picnics and small balconies, and Amazon names a picnic by the lake and spontaneous camping outdoors. The manual says only: outdoors.
On a balcony, your tenancy agreement and house rules decide, not the grill. The manual requires a level, heat-resistant, stable surface; how much distance to the railing, wall or wooden decking is needed, it leaves open. The guide Grilling on a balcony summarises the legal position, and if you do not yet know which type of grill suits your space, use the Grill finder. On a campsite, the site rules may ban charcoal; more on choosing is in the guide Buying a camping grill.
On open, windy ground, we would look for a sheltered spot. The shop only advertises a secure stand on level ground, and such a light grill with glowing charcoal should not stand unprotected in gusts.
The Micro BBQ is the wrong choice for anyone who regularly cooks for more than four people at once. For them, a freestanding grill such as the Napoleon NK22K-LEG-2 comes into question, which costs €343 more in the price boxes (approx. €373 against approx. €30).
