A sheet with a handle in front of the oven opening
The Cozze pizza oven door is neither an oven nor a grill. It is a single stainless steel part that belongs in front of a pizza oven’s opening, where it is meant to hold heat back. Amazon lists it under the Cozze brand, and the catalogue names Millarco International as the manufacturer. The door costs approx. €33.99 (catalogue status 05.10.2026), and in our comparison it scores 8.1 out of 10 points.
Two things matter up front. First, the door is meant for owners, not for prospective buyers: without a matching oven it has no purpose. Second, everything we know about it comes from the Amazon catalogue, because the manufacturer’s site was not reachable when we researched it. The word “we” in this text stands for comparison and evaluation, not for trying it out: we did not have the door in our hands and have not run a pizza oven with it.
Does the door fit my oven?
Only if your oven is an older 17-inch Cozze model and carries one of the numbers 90343, 90346, 90347, 90353, 90354 or 90356. For newer series and other brands, the catalogue gives no approval.
The catalogue words the restriction itself: the door was developed “specifically for older” 17-inch ovens. It does not say which Cozze lines count as newer. Names such as Rotate or Black Edition also appear nowhere in the door’s details. If you have such an oven, you cannot know whether the sheet fits, and you should check the number instead of relying on the inch size alone. The inch size alone is not enough, because other brands also build 17-inch ovens.
The catalogue lists further 17-inch ovens from Cozze, which we assess separately, including the gas pizza oven with rotating stone and the Rotate electric oven. Whether the door fits them is not documented anywhere.
Construction: 1.0 mm stainless steel, 600 grams, Bakelite handle
The catalogue describes a stainless steel sheet 1.0 mm thick and weighing 600 grams. The handle is made of Bakelite, heat-resistant according to the catalogue, and is meant to allow safe opening and closing. No other component can be seen in the photo: no seal, no hinge, no thermometer.
The product photo shows a flat, elongated plate with bevelled corners on both short sides. The black plastic handle projects diagonally forward from the lower edge of the plate. The cozze lettering is visible on the surface. Whether it is embossed, laser-etched or cut through cannot be seen in the picture. The catalogue field “colour” reads “Blackone”, by the way, but the photo shows a silver sheet with only the handle in black. We read that as a name for the brand or series, not as the colour of the plate.
What the construction means for heat can be derived from the material and thickness, but remains our own interpretation. A 1.0 mm sheet has little mass and therefore stores hardly any heat; it only holds it back. Stainless steel also conducts heat less well than aluminium or copper, which tends to help on the outside of the plate. Bakelite is a phenolic resin, and it too conducts heat poorly. That protects the handle against the heat of the plate, but only up to a limit that the manufacturer does not state.
In detail: where the heat from an open pizza oven goes
An open oven opening loses heat in three ways. Radiation goes straight outwards, from the glowing inner surface and from the stone. Then there is convection: hot air flows out at the top of the opening, cold air flows in at the bottom and has to be heated again. The third path is wind, which pushes into the opening and speeds up the air exchange. A door slows all three, but none completely, because a plate in front of an opening is not a seal.
That is general physics, and it explains why Cozze promotes the door as a heat retainer. The catalogue says the stainless steel door keeps the heat efficiently in the oven and increases baking performance. Beyond this promise the catalogue says no more, with no minutes and no oven temperature.
The note on use is interesting. The catalogue recommends using the door briefly while heating up and between bakes to keep the temperature constant “without overheating”. It follows that the manufacturer apparently considers overheating possible if the door is closed for longer. For gas ovens a general rule applies as well: a flame needs supply air and has to get rid of the exhaust gases. A door in front of the opening changes this air path. We do not know whether the six ovens listed heat with gas or electricity. Only the manual for your oven can answer what applies to it.
Between two pizzas, the stone loses heat because the dough ball draws heat from it and the opening stands open while you slide the pizza in. We consider it plausible that a door placed in between cushions this pause. It remains a deduction from the construction. How to bake pizza on a stone and which temperatures are usual for it is explained in our guide Pizza on the grill.
Fitting and care
According to the catalogue, the door is “easy to attach” and removable. It does not explain how it is fixed: hanging it in, plugging it in or screwing it on all remain open, as does whether tools are needed. The fact that it is removable at least means you can take it off to put it away, for example when the oven spends the winter under a cover.
600 grams of sheet metal is light enough for one hand, but at a hot oven that hand should be on the handle and not on the edge of the plate. That is what the Bakelite handle is for.
As a general point, it can be said of stainless steel: it discolours at high heat. That is a tinted haze on the surface, not a material defect. It is not a statement from the manufacturer, and dishwasher or abrasive cleaners are not approved for the sheet.
What the manufacturer does not state
The official manufacturer site cozze.com was a placeholder when we researched it, with a note that the site was under construction, and we did not find a cozze.eu site. We did not use retailer pages as a source of evidence. As a result we lack a data sheet and manual, and these points remain open: the stainless steel grade and the finish, the maximum temperature load of the door, the type of fixing, whether a window, vent slot or thermometer opening is present, measured values for heat-up time and temperature stability, the permitted duration of closing, cleaning instructions, safety instructions for use on the oven, and the warranty terms in detail. There is also no information on compatibility with newer Cozze series. We do not fill these gaps with assumptions.
There are catalogue values for the dimensions: approx. 45.0 cm width, 11.5 cm height and 5.0 cm depth. These are outer dimensions from the catalogue entry. They probably include the handle, which projects forward in the photo, so the depth is not the thickness of the sheet.
Check before you buy
Three steps clarify the fit before you order. First, find your oven’s model number, usually on the rating plate or in the manual, and compare it with the six numbers 90343, 90346, 90347, 90353, 90354 and 90356. If your number is not among them, there is no approval. Second, measure your oven’s opening and compare it with the door’s catalogue dimensions of approx. 45.0 × 11.5 cm. Because the catalogue does not say whether these dimensions include the handle, a tight margin is a reason to ask the seller. Third, read the seller’s returns terms before buying, because we did not find a warranty promise from the manufacturer. If you have settled these three points, you know more than the catalogue offers and you are not buying on a hunch.
What else is worth considering?
The door solves a problem that you only have with a matching oven. The three comparison products therefore answer other questions: if you do not have an oven yet, you need one first, and if you only have a grill, you can try an attachment.
| Model | The difference | Price | Our rating | Choose this if |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cozze pizza oven door 17 inch (this one) | Accessory made of 1.0 mm stainless steel, only with a matching oven | approx. €33.99 | 8.1 | you already own one of the six Cozze ovens listed |
| Cozze 17 inch gas pizza oven | Complete gas oven with rotating stone instead of an accessory | approx. €399 | 8.2 | you use gas and do not yet have a Cozze 17-inch oven |
| Cozze 17 inch Premium Rotate | Electric pizza oven with rotating stone | approx. €520 | 8.3 | you cannot or do not want to set up a gas cylinder |
| SOUK ONE pizza attachment | Attachment for a gas or charcoal grill | approx. €70 | 7.9 | you do not own a pizza oven, but you do own a grill |
The prices are guide values as of the date shown in our respective price box, and they change. The rating is our editorial assessment based on the available data and price, not a measurement result, and it is only of limited comparability across product types: a sheet for approx. €33.99 and an oven for approx. €399 do not solve the same task.
What counts for price is the order of magnitude: in our price box the gas oven costs approx. €399, the SOUK ONE approx. €70 and the door approx. €34.
When the door is worth it and when it is not
It depends on your oven number first, and only then on the weather. The individual cases:
- You have one of the six Cozze ovens and often bake outdoors in wind: here the benefit is most plausible, because wind increases the air exchange at the opening. At approx. €33.99 we would give it a try.
- You have one of the six ovens and bake rarely, only in windless weather: the catalogue promises no numerical advantage, and our deduction suggests the effect is then small. Here the purchase is more of a gimmick.
- You have a different Cozze model, such as a newer series: do not buy on a hunch. According to the catalogue the door was developed for six older numbers, and a return because of a wrong fit costs time.
- You have no oven: the door is of no use to you. Then take a look at the gas oven, for electric the Rotate, and if you already have a grill the SOUK ONE.
- You want to know in advance how many minutes the door saves: then it is not for you, because that figure does not exist.
The door is the wrong choice for anyone looking for an all-round part for several pizza ovens. It is designed for a handful of models, and the photo shows no adjustable frame. You will find more accessories from the pizza corner in the Grill accessories category.
