A steel plate to place on the grate, not a grill
The COGRICHBF Plancha is an attachment: a stainless steel plate that you place on the grate of your gas or charcoal grill. It has no heating of its own; the heat comes from the grill underneath. “Plancha” is the Spanish word for plate. You cook on it as on a griddle: the food sits with its whole underside on the surface, and nothing falls through the bars. The seller mentions fried eggs, steak, pancakes, fish, vegetables and fruit, and elsewhere smash burgers; how to make those is covered in our guide grilling burgers. Grill marks, as a grate leaves them, do not form on a smooth surface.
According to our price box the plate costs approx. €49; on the Amazon page it was at €49.39 on 14.10.2026.
We have not handled the plate and have not grilled anything on it. For the COGRICHBF brand we found no website of its own, no data sheet and no manual; it only turns up on Amazon in our searches. All information here therefore comes from the Amazon listing (catalogue as of 05.10.2026, product page retrieved on 14.10.2026), from the photos there and from general materials science, which we mark as such.
What Amazon and the photo give us
The dimensions appear twice, in a different order. The title writes 40x30cm, the first bullet point 30 x 40 x 4cm (width, depth, height). We read this as the same surface and write it as the title does. The 4 cm height does not match the 4 mm material thickness that the same bullet point names separately. The dimensions field on the Amazon product page shows 10 × 10 × 10 mm, probably a placeholder, as it fits neither 40 × 30 cm nor 4 mm.
The plate is stainless steel and 4 mm thick according to the seller. The bullet point also says it has “strong oxidation” and therefore does not warp even at high temperatures. This could mean the temper colours that stainless steel takes on in heat, or it is a clumsy translation; we do not adopt the sentence as fact.
The texts contradict each other on the scope of delivery. The title and first bullet point promise two grill spatulas, a later bullet point one. Removable handles are mentioned only in the Amazon title in the version of 14.10.2026; the five bullet points and the catalogue title of 05.10.2026 do without them. The catalogue counts three items, which would fit a plate and two spatulas.
The product photo is an advertising image with flame graphics, but it shows more than the text. It shows a rectangular plate with two spatulas on it, both with black handles: a short, wide one with a smooth blade and a turner with slots. On two opposite sides a wire handle hangs from the edge, probably the removable handles from the title, and the edge is bent up on those sides. How high the edge is and whether it runs all the way round is not shown in the picture. It is possible that the 4 cm from the bullet point refers to this edge; Arebos gives 3.8 cm as the edge height of its plate. For the COGRICHBF this is a guess.
A drain opening cannot be made out in the picture. Because the spatulas cover part of the surface, this does not rule out an opening.
In detail: thickness, stainless steel and the closed surface
On a grate, the food touches only the bars. On a closed plate it lies flat on the whole surface, nothing falls through, and nothing drains away: fat and juices collect under the food until they evaporate or someone wipes them away. That is the price for eggs, pancakes and everything else that would otherwise fall through the grate. According to our guide grilling fish, lean fish fillets are easier at first in a grill basket or in foil, because they cannot fall apart there. On a plate they do not fall through the grate either; how well they can be turned then depends on the spatula and the heat.
The seller writes that the closed surface distributes heat evenly, and that the 4 mm bring durability and heat retention, in each case without a measured value. A plate distributes heat only as well as its material conducts it, and stainless steel conducts comparatively poorly: common stainless steels reach about 15 to 25 W/(m·K), unalloyed steel about 50, aluminium well over 100 (materials science, not from the seller). Because conductivity does little to help with stainless steel, sheet thickness remains the adjustable factor.
Our reasoning: over a single burner, the plate gets hotter in places than at the edge. Warping arises from such differences within the plate, less from the absolute temperature, because the hotter zone expands more than the cooler one. Thickness helps against this: the bending stiffness of a plate grows with the cube of its thickness, so 4 mm is eight times as stiff as 2 mm. That explains why the seller advertises the thickness. Up to what temperature the plate stays dimensionally stable is not stated anywhere.
More mass also stores more heat and takes longer to heat up. How long that takes depends on burner output and the distance to the plate. If you grill with gas, you pay for the heat-up time in burner running time.
Does the plate fit your grill?
Your grate decides that, and the listing helps little: it names the brands Weber, Burnhard and Enders, plus charcoal grills and most gas grills, with no model list and no minimum size. Measuring is the only reliable way.
What you measure is the free support area: on a gas grill the distance between the grate supports, on a charcoal grill the grate itself. On a round grate with the plate placed in the centre, the corners overhang the edge as soon as the diameter is below the diagonal, which for 40 × 30 cm is exactly 50 cm. Whether that matters depends on the kettle. If the plate rests on only a few bars, it can wobble.
Whether the lid still closes with the plate in place can only be settled on your own grill and depends, among other things, on the edge height.
Oven, cleaning and the hot plate
According to the seller, the plate is also suitable as a baking steel for the oven. A baking steel is a thick plate that preheats in the oven and releases its stored heat to the dough. You have to settle the temperature limit, oven size and the load capacity of your oven rack yourself. An upturned edge, as the photo shows on the handle sides, hinders sliding dough off sideways; that is how we infer it from the picture.
On cleaning, the listing contains a single note: the spatula is for turning food or for cleaning the surface. General knowledge about stainless steel: abrasive cleaners scratch the surface, and chlorine-containing cleaners can cause pitting.
In principle, for any metal plate on a grill, even without instructions from the seller: it stays hot for a long time after grilling, and the wire handles get hot with it, because metal conducts heat. Without heat-resistant gloves you touch neither plate nor handles. Grease on a hot plate can ignite, and burning grease is never put out with water; details are in the guide grease fires on the grill. In addition, your grill’s manual takes precedence: whether it allows accessories on the grate is something it, or your grill manufacturer, will answer.
What the seller does not state
These details are missing from the title, bullet points and product page. As far as we can see, no manufacturer page or manual exists.
- Stainless steel grade (V2A, V4A or another material) and proof of food contact safety, for example under LFGB (German food contact rules) or EU Regulation 1935/2004
- Maximum temperature of the plate, temperature limit in the oven, heat-up time
- Weight of the plate alone
- Edge height, grease drain, drain opening, drip tray; the fact that the texts are silent does not prove there is no drain
- Handles: material, attachment, overall size with handles (only the title mentions two removable handles)
- Spatula: material and dimensions
- Minimum grate size and specific grill models
- Suitability directly on charcoal embers, under a closed lid, on a hob or induction
- Seasoning, oiling, cleaning, dishwasher
- Warranty, warranty terms, spare parts such as individual handles or spatulas
- Company details: location, imprint, year of founding
What else is worth considering?
Three plates with the same surface and the same material thickness according to Amazon sit next to it in our catalogue; further plates and other accessories are in the category grill accessories.
| Model | The difference | Price | Our rating | Choose this one if |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| COGRICHBF Plancha 40 × 30 (this one) | 4 mm stainless steel, spatula in the set; no information on grease drain and heat limit | approx. €49 | 8.2 | you have measured your grate and can do without paperwork on material and heat |
| Digank Plancha 40 × 30 | Amazon text mentions an oil drain hole and two removable handles | approx. €58 | 8.1 | you want to drain off grease and move the plate by its handles |
| GIRXZYBX Plancha 40 × 30 | Amazon text names the Weber Spirit II E310, E340 and S340 as compatible | approx. €49 | 7.7 | you have one of these Weber grills |
| Arebos Plancha 40 × 30 | Manufacturer page and German manual, drain opening | approx. €57 | 8.3 | you want to read written details on heat limit, seasoning and care |
The prices are guide values from our price box and fluctuate. The rating is our editorial assessment of the available data, not a measurement result, and it says nothing about durability or heat behaviour.
Decision guide: when this plate, when another
Start with the grate. If the free support area of your grill is smaller than 40 × 30 cm, all four plates in the table are ruled out, not just this one. If you own a Weber Spirit II E310, E340 or S340, the GIRXZYBX is the only one of the four whose Amazon text explicitly names these models. According to the price box it also costs approx. €49.
Then the grease. If you do not want grease left standing on the surface, take a plate with a described opening: the Digank (€9 more according to the price box, oil drain hole in the Amazon text) or the Arebos (drain opening according to the manufacturer’s page). Where the grease goes afterwards depends on your grill.
If you want to read written details on heat limit, seasoning and care before buying, you end up with the Arebos: it has a manufacturer page and a German manual. For the COGRICHBF, the Amazon listing is the only source.
Among the four listings, only the COGRICHBF’s mentions the oven. If you are buying for that, settle the open oven questions yourself, because a single sentence in the listing does not support a purchase decision.
That leaves the budget. Between the cheapest and the most expensive plate in the table there are €9 according to the price box. If you only put the plate on occasionally, have measured the grate and are happy to manage the grease yourself, you can stay with the COGRICHBF. We would pay the extra for the Arebos (approx. €57 against approx. €49) as soon as the plate is in regular use or you need a heat limit in black and white.
Who is it for?
For buyers who expect a point of contact after purchase, this plate is the wrong choice. On 14.10.2026 the buy box showed a marketplace seller, with delivery via Amazon. Whether this seller and the COGRICHBF brand are the same company cannot be checked, because we found no address or imprint for the brand. The product page gives China as the country of origin. Warranty rights in principle lie against the seller.
