An insert, not a grill: what BBQ-Toro is selling here
The BBQ-Toro set is not a grill but an insert for a kamado you already own. It consists of a stainless steel frame, two half-moon grates, a holder and half-moon stones. Together they give up to three levels at the same time, according to the manufacturer. The product page lists classic grilling, smoking, slow cooking, cooking and pizza baking as uses.
The name changes depending on the source. On the manufacturer’s site the item is called “Smokersystem für Kamado, 3 Ebenen, Edelstahl”, in the description text “Kochsystem”, and on Amazon “flexibles Kochsystem für Kamadogrill 52 cm”. We conclude that it is the same product from the model number: the Amazon field reads SMOKE8, and that is what the variant “for Ø 52 cm” is called in the manufacturer’s shop. Dimensions and weight match as well.
BBQ-Toro is a brand of CS-Trading GmbH & Co. KG from Brauneberg, which describes itself as having been active in online retail for several years and carries more than 100 items of the brand. Our price box lists the set at approx. €110. In the manufacturer’s shop it cost €109.95 on 16.10.2026, and the Amazon catalogue showed the same amount on 05.10.2026.
We have not handled the set and have not grilled anything on it. The basis is the BBQ-Toro product page (retrieved on 16.10.2026), the Amazon catalogue and the product photos. We did not find an instruction manual: none is linked on the product page, there is no download area, and the brand’s advice blog has no post on either kamados or the smoker system.
Six parts, 4.9 kg: scope of delivery and dimensions
The frame measures Ø 46 cm on the outside and is 14.5 cm high; the holder is Ø 44.5 cm. The two half-moon grates together make a circle of Ø 45.5 cm, and each is 45.5 cm wide and 22 cm deep. The stones together form Ø 36 cm, and each half-moon measures 36 x 18 cm and is 2 cm thick. The manufacturer gives the weight as 4.9 kg, and the Amazon catalogue arrives at the same value with 10.8 pounds. Amazon lists the dimensions in inches (18.11 x 18.11 x 5.71), which converts to 46.0 x 46.0 x 14.5 cm, and gives the colour as silver.
According to the product page, frame and grate are made of stainless steel, and the description text also calls the holder a stainless steel holder.
The page contradicts itself on the scope of delivery. The highlights list counts one frame, one holder, two half-moon stainless steel grates and one pizza stone. The description text and the Amazon bullet point speak of two half-moon pizza stones, and the manufacturer’s exploded view shows six parts: two grates, the holder, two light-coloured half-moon stones and the frame. The highlights list with one pizza stone, by contrast, comes to five pieces. We therefore expect two stone halves that together make up the stone of Ø 36 cm.
The Amazon photo shows two layers. On top lies the round grate, below it a light, round stone on a frame made of bent wire with rings and legs; at the edge of the grate, two wire brackets stick up. Which parts form the third level that the manufacturer talks about is not shown in the photo, and the text does not say either.
In detail: grate height, deflector, pizza stone and wok
In a kamado the charcoal sits deep in the fire bowl and the grate above it. Without accessories there is one height and therefore one distance to the embers. According to general physics, not the manufacturer’s statement: glowing charcoal gives off a large part of its heat as radiation, and that decreases with distance. What sits lower receives more of it than what sits higher.
The manufacturer writes that the two-part grate can be positioned at the same or at different heights. If you put one half lower, it receives more radiation, and the higher half becomes a gentler zone without you having to move any charcoal. That is how we read the sentence.
For indirect grilling, according to the manufacturer, you insert one or two half-moon deflector stones. By our reading, one stone shields the embers only under one half of the grate while under the other half they stay open: direct and indirect side by side, which creates the temperature zones the product page talks about. With both stones, an area of Ø 36 cm lies above the embers; how much of your kamado’s fire bowl it covers depends on its size. How zones are built up and when you need which heat is covered in the guide direct and indirect heat.
The smoke in the smoker system comes from smoking wood or chips smouldering on the embers. The set only determines how far the food sits from the embers and whether a stone sits in between.
The stones are intended as a deflector and, according to the manufacturer, can also be used as a pizza stone: simply place them on the holder. Cordierite, fireclay and ceramic all occur in pizza stones, and they differ in heat resistance and sensitivity to temperature changes. Which material is used here remains open. Our guide cracked pizza stone names thermal shock as the most common cause of cracks and advises heating the stone together with the grill. Our conclusion for this set: leave the stone in the kamado from the start rather than putting it cold into one that is already heated.
According to the manufacturer, the holder also serves as a support for woks, grill pots and other grilling utensils and can be inserted at the desired height. The height decides how close the bottom of the pot gets to the embers. With a filled wok, it also matters how much weight the holder carries.
Does the set fit your kamado?
Only if your kamado has at least Ø 46 cm free where the frame is supposed to rest. BBQ-Toro names “many” kamados with a stated size of Ø 52 cm and further grills with an inside diameter of Ø 46 cm as suitable; there is no model list.
Measure at the ledge, not at the grate or at the rim. A kamado is not a cylinder on the inside: the bowl tapers downwards, so the free diameter changes with height. What the frame rests on is determined by your kamado; from the manufacturer comes only the requirement that it must be stable and firmly mounted before use.
The size stated on the box is a label, not a measured value. We are not aware of a uniform standard for it; which measurement is behind Ø 52 cm is decided by the kamado manufacturer. If your kamado has the stated size of Ø 39 cm, you need the smaller variant, which BBQ-Toro lists separately; the 52 cm set is too big for it.
Safety and cleaning according to the manufacturer
The only safety source is the section “Produktsicherheit” (product safety) on the product page. We reproduce it in our own words; the full text is there. It contains these points:
- The system is intended to enable smoking meat, fish and other foods as well as baking pizzas.
- It is to be used exclusively on grills intended for it and installed correctly and safely.
- Before use it must be mounted stably and firmly so that it does not tip over or slip.
- No hot pots, pans or grilling utensils belong on the system (risk of burns).
- During operation, keep your distance from the hot surfaces, especially from the levels and the pizza stone.
- Always wear grill gloves when handling it during operation.
- The system is to be supervised during operation and never left unattended.
- Children and pets are to be kept away at all times.
- It may only be used outdoors because it reaches high temperatures and there is a risk of smoke or fire if used improperly.
- It is to be checked for damage and used only in perfect condition.
- “Clean the system only when it has cooled down.”
In two places the safety section and the product description fit together poorly. First, the holder is offered as a support for wok and grill pot, and a wok standing in the kamado is hot; the manufacturer does not resolve this and states no load capacity. Until this is clarified we would not load it with a filled pot. Second, the description additionally advertises grilling, slow cooking and cooking, while the first point of the list names only smoking and pizza baking. The manufacturer does not separate the two.
Everything else about cleaning is general knowledge. Stainless steel scratches under abrasives and steel wool. Porous pizza stones absorb water, which is why our guide on the cracked pizza stone advises cleaning them dry only, with a brush or scraper; whether the stone in the set is porous depends on the material.
What the manufacturer does not state
These details are missing from the product page and the Amazon catalogue, and we did not find a manual in which they might appear. That they are missing does not mean they do not exist; it means they are not available to us.
- Stainless steel grade (V2A, V4A or other) and wire thickness of the grates
- Material of the stones; the separately sold deflector stone RFL1 is listed as “ceramic”, but it is a different item and does not serve as evidence for the set
- Maximum temperature of frame, grates, holder and stones
- Spacing between the levels, height above the embers, room up to the lid; which parts form which level
- Load capacity of the holder and largest permissible pot
- Model list of suitable kamados, also for the brand’s own KURO 52
- Grilling area in cm² and capacity in steaks or people
- Weight of the individual parts; only the total weight is given
- Assembly, tool requirements, instruction manual
- Cleaning in detail: dishwasher, degreasing, care of the stones, dealing with grease fires
- Food safety and test marks, for example under EU Regulation 1935/2004 or LFGB (the German Food and Feed Code)
- Manufacturer’s warranty
- Country of origin or manufacture, market launch of the product, founding year of the brand
- Minimum distances and balcony rules
- Purpose of the two wire brackets at the grate edge in the Amazon photo
What else comes into question?
Three items from our category grill accessories solve related tasks, each in a different way.
| Model | The difference | Price | Our rating | Choose this if |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| BBQ-Toro Smokersystem for kamado Ø 52 cm (this set) | Frame Ø 46 cm, two grates, two stones, 4.9 kg | approx. €110 | 8.2 | your kamado has Ø 46 cm free at the ledge |
| BBQ-Toro cooking system for kamado Ø 39 cm | Smaller format: frame Ø 32.5 cm, 2.35 kg, stone Ø 22.5 cm | approx. €80 | 8.1 | your kamado has the stated size of Ø 39 cm |
| SOUK ONE pizza attachment | Pizza attachment instead of a level frame; check dimensions and suitability there | approx. €70 | 7.9 | you mainly want to bake pizza |
| Petromax Feuertopf ft6 | Cast iron pot (Dutch oven) with 5.5 l, adds no grate area | approx. €75 | 9.0 | you want to braise over embers instead of grilling |
The prices are guide values from our price box and fluctuate. The rating is our editorial assessment of the available data, not a measurement result, and it says nothing about how a part behaves over the embers.
Decision guide: when this set, when something else
Start with the kamado. If you do not own one yet, buy the grill first; the Grill Finder helps with the choice. If you have one, for Ø 52 cm the free diameter at the ledge decides, and you measure that yourself.
Then the question of what you want the levels for. For two cooking zones, that is something direct and something indirect at the same time, one half-moon stone and the grates are enough by our reading, and both are in the set. If you only want to bake pizza, you do not need three levels: the SOUK ONE pizza attachment costs approx. €40 less according to the price box, but it is a different design whose dimensions you read on its page.
If you mainly braise, in our assessment you are better off with a cast iron pot than with a wok holder with no stated load capacity. The Petromax Feuertopf ft6 does not enlarge the grate area, but costs approx. €35 less than the set according to the price box.
For handling, the number of loose parts counts: six pieces, to be touched during operation only with grill gloves. If you move grates during cooking, you are moving hot stainless steel parts over the embers. It is better to set the heights before lighting and move only the food during cooking.
On budget: on top of the approx. €110 come grill gloves, if you do not have any, because the manufacturer requires them when handling the set. The price difference to the smaller set plays no role in the choice, because your kamado dictates the size.
Our assessment: the set is a purchase with open parameters. We would take it if your kamado has the diameter and you want to try out the heights yourself. If you need the heat limit and load capacity in black and white before paying, you should leave it.
Who is it suitable for?
For owners of a kettle grill, this set is not the first choice. BBQ-Toro carries its own items for that: the Smokersystem for Ø 57 cm kettle grill, Ø 54 cm, 3 levels, stainless steel (SMOKE7) for €69.95 and the Kochsystem for Ø 57 cm kettle grill, universal, flexible (BBQKIT01) for €59.95. The dimensions of the Kochsystem are given contradictorily on the manufacturer’s site, so we state none here. Both prices come from the manufacturer’s shop as of 16.10.2026. It is not ruled out that the kamado set fits in a kettle grill: BBQ-Toro also names grills with an inside diameter of Ø 46 cm as suitable, without naming a kettle grill model.
